Gas Tank Sending Unit Mounting

I had the gas tank on my '49 Commodore cleaned and sealed. After reinstalling the tank the gas gauge reads backwards. I think that as part of the repair process the gas sending unit mounting ring was removed from the tank and reinstalled upside down because if I install the gas sending unit upside down to what the bolt pattern wants it to be the gas gauge works correctly. Does anyone have a gas tank available to check this. This is what I have.

I couldn't keep my mind on what I was supposed to be doing, cause this tank sending unit thing kept buggin me. I matched your measurements against tank mount and sending unit.
Our diemensions from one hole to the other match however your #6 should be in your #1 position rotated one hole clockwise. Sending unit arm should come from the right side of the unit as it sits in the tank mount opening. I can't answer why yours reads opposite as the position yours sits doesn't put it 180 degrees off. I hope this helps.

Well, I am glad that the holes do not line up with that I got. But remember that the float arm moves parallel to holes 1 and 4. Putting it in to table form might help.
I now have starting from the top and going clockwise.
1-2 = 1 1/2
2-3 = 1 1/8
3-4 = 1 1/2
4-5 = 1 1/4
5-6 = 1 5/8
6-1 = 1 1/4
I think it should be.
4-5 = 1 1/4
5-6 = 1 5/8
6-1 = 1 1/4
1-2 = 1 1/2
2-3 = 1 1/8
3-4 = 1 1/2 -

Nick is correct, I spent over an hour on this yesterday and thought I had it right. I have 2 tanks on the floor and they both measure the same. As Nick's photo shows, your mount is 180 out. What I've come up with as verification:
# 1 at the top and clockwise
1 - 2= 11/4
2 - 3= 15/8
3 - 4= 11/4
4 - 5= 11/2
5 - 6= 11/8
6 - 1= 11/2
I apologize for being wrong and I stand corrected. I'd be glad to send this old sender as verification, If you'd like.

I had the same problem with a tank I had redone by tank-re-nu and couldn't fine problem for several years. About 8years ago car was up on lift and Ken Schulte looked at tank and thought something looked wrong, sure enough, they welded mounting plate upside down. We solved problem by turning tank unit upside down and drilled new holes. It works perfect. (I wrote an article on it in WTN)
