Question about a purple 55 Victoria
-
Hey guys, I'm over here from the Hudson forum again so I guess I'm kind of a newby here. I heard a story the other day from an old guy that told me that back in the fifties Ford painted certain cars purple for a specific reason. I know if someone ordered a purple car that is what they would get. The reason he told me this story was I was driving my 55 victoria that was painted with a regency purple bottom and a snowshoe white top. He said the normal color combination would be like purple on the bottom, white in the middle and purple on the top. Most cars in the fifties were painted the way he stated, but not all were. I bought this car some time ago from the family that bought it new and they said that it came from the factory this way. So, any truth to this story, thanks in advace for any comments. Richie.

Well, it appears to be the correct color for the year.
As I look around I see that the 1954 Model Fords had the same pattern as yours with the Two-Tone like yours. The 55 models though in the Crown Vic and two-door hardtops are mostly all Two-Tone seperated with the white in the middle and the colors on top and bottom. I have seen some that are color below the side moulding and white above. Or they are a solid color.
An interesting car you have as I have not seen any with that paint combo. I wonder if it may have been an early production model, hence, looking like the 54?
I'll have to check with some Ford guys I know to see if they know anything.
Keep us posted

Ron, thanks for your reply, and I had never seen this combo on this model that I can recall. It is different for sure. Thanks again Ron, Richie. -
55 and 56 cars are my favorites in most all Marques.
Are you planning on keeping the car this way?
What is the interior like?

Ron, when I bought the car it had the original pink and white interior, but now has the same pattern as original but it is purple and white and matches the car's exterior. My wife wants to paint the car with purple on top, white in the middle and purple on the bottom. We haven't made a definite decision yet on the paint scheme. I looked for some pics of the interior but they must be hiding in the computer somewhere.
55-56-57 were the best years of cars, IMHO and I like them all in that group. Richie. -
I think it would be great to have someone that has photo shop, do a pic of your car that way. At least you would get an idea as to what it would look like. I personally like the two tones that way in those years.
Carnut.com is a good site with a nice selection of pictures of a lot of cars, but unfortunately not many of interiors and only a couple of them of the dash of that year Ford.
The mid fifties had great style and were colorful cars with gobs of chrome. Probably one of the reasons I love em.
If you get any pictures, post them as I would love to see them along with any of yours.

Ron, I will post some pics of the car's interior tomorrow, won't take me long to do that and resize them. I'm not good on the computer and know nothing about photo-shop. I' tooooo old to learn all that fancy stuff. Richie.
Ron, here are a few pics of the interior, I'm not finished yet as I have to do the door panels and back seat panels. Richie.

Nice looking interior.
I will assume that the seats are purple, and the front door panels and side rear panels are still pink? You know you can get paint to re-do those. I did the interior on a 67 Skylark many years ago and did it in white. It came out nice and lasted.

Well Richie,
You're asking a lot for me to remember something that far back, ha,ha. Yes, it is a dye but I can't tell you the name. I'm sure because it was so long ago that by now they have even beeter products.
All of my sources are not handy due to me moving at the end of the week, but after I unpack next week, I will search for them and hope I can come up with something for you.
Have you tried any upholsterers to see if they know anything?
I'll keep looking.

Ron, thanks for your idea, and don't worry about hunting for that info. I will go to the local upholstery shop and see what they have to offer. When I come up with something I'll let you know. Thanks again for the idea. Richie. -
One thing I have learned in this hobby after many years of working in it for myself and for organizations is that you can't always think of everything and someone someplace will think of the one thing that makes it all work easy. I'm glad to help anyone however I can.
I look forward to more from you

Ron, you are right on about someone else making a job easier. Sometimes we look or think too hard and pass right over the obvious. Thanks, and I 'll let you know what I find out, might be several days though. Richie.
