I posted here as my first post to this forum.

I basically would love any insight from all you with the scars of experience.

I guess a good line to use is....

What is the one thing you wish you knew then that you know now....and how much money would it have saved you. (Other than wife jokes and not buying anything car related) :D

So I'm guessing one has to buy semi-locally then.

My main concern then is of course the corrosion.

Any horror stories with metal work...how is this car to work on in that regard and what are the normal main areas of concern?

Yea I'm hitting hard with questions and I thank you all for your input. I will be sure to try to help in kind once I get up to speed so to say. ;)

I am also undergoing my first experience in buying and I find that what Ron is saying is very true.

    INSPECTION..........INSPECTION........................INSPECTION

The ad posted by the seller on ebay was that the engine experienced Blue Printing and Balance. Not so, when he bought it from the previous owner, as the engine turned up with issues and he had to rebuid it, but still said it was blueprinted. The other statement he made was he was the third owner but I found out otherwise. Therefore Trust but Verify.

I don't know where you live, but I live in the northwest suburbs of Chicago and the Buick club around here is a wonderful group of guys with some very knowledgable and helpful people. So, I would look into an area Buick club and see what you can learn from them. Try talking to others that have Buicks when you hit the cruise nights or local shows. You may just be amazed.

As to where you buy, if you frequent some of the sites that Buicks are popular in, you may be able to rely on someone from an area that you see a nice Buick for sale to take a look at it for you. I was searching for a 59 Chevy that was in California and asked a guy from the chevytalk site to take a look. He sent me a cd filled with pictures and wrote me all of his observations. Thanks to him I did not purchase the vehicle because it was not up to par with what I wanted at that time. The one thing I have learned in this hobby is that you can make a ton of friends that have a lot of knowledge.

Corrosion is always a concern on any car. And if you think about it, they are all very similar as to the places that they accumulate the rot. This is why I suggest that you spend a lot time on inspecting all areas of the car. If you can not be there, at least the owner should (and I use the term loosely) be willing to photograph anything of concern to help sell the car. If they do not want to work with you, pass on it and you will find someone that is kind enough to help.

When I taught classes, I always told everyone, the questions are the things that will help to educate you. Never pass up the chance to ask them.

I wish you the best of luck in your search and i'm sure that there are many here willing to help you.

In referance to classic car guy, I always want to see receipts for work performed otherwise they are false claims.
