Manually Drop a Convertible Top

Good morning and Happy 4th of July to all...

I am new here and am looking forward to getting involved in the Pontiac community. I have recently acquired a 1966 Lemans convertible that is all original and plan to restore. With that I have a question that maybe someone here knows the answer to?

Is there a way to manually drop the top on this car?

Thanks in advance for your help..

You would have to open the hydraulic lines and force the fluid out or dissconect the ram. Before I did either I would fill the pump with regular hydraulic jack fluid and try to get it working , might have to run wires direct to it if you have some wireing problems . Every one I have worked on filling the fluid did the trick . BUD

    Welcome to the group

Is the pump missing? Not working? Disconnected?

You should be able to just unlatch it and push it back. It's not as easy as it sounds but it can be done.

Thanks Bud and Ron for the help... I have not had the car that long and have yet to go looking for the pump. I am under the impression it is somewhere in the back lid area but again have not gotten that far. I don't think it is actually missing but will have to get back to you. Will look for it tomorrow. Bud, just to be sure, you say I need to use regular hydraulic fluid? I was of the impression it might use ATF fluid...

    Thanks

JACK FLUID , DO NOT PUT ATF IN IT . Take the back seat out to find the pump if not in trunk. BUD

Not to start a debate as I value Buds knowledge, but I have used ATF before after rebuilding pumps and cylinders and have not experienced any problems.
