Carb Finishes
-
Hey, Dan;
You were asking about carb finishes on a previous thread, thought you'd be interested in what Charlie Price is offering for sale on his Vintage Speed Equipment website.

Scroll down about 8 pictures to see the carb finishes he offers on the carbs he sells. I'm tempted to save my pennies and just get a couple jugs from him for this Edmunds setup. His stuff has to be easier to tune than these WA1's and WGD's are. :cool:Workin Stiff -

He says he uses 2 different Chromate based dips (clear and yellow) and gold or chrome plating.
I can't imagine that 2 WA1 carbs are that tough to tune up; They're a fairly simple affair? -
Tuning 'em is straightforward Dan, if you can find the non-standard jets and/or metering rods. I know the rods for the WGD's are over $200 a pair custom machined, and you gotta change the stepped diameters in a couple different places for full-range tuning. Ivan Zaremba tried to point me in the right direction. He was running WGD's on an Edmunds intake, but he used 'em basically as an on/off switch. I won't really be able to dial in that combo for the street the way I want without some mixture choices. That gets spendy enough that if I need more than a couple different sizes I'm shelling out as much as one of these new carbs. I'm thinkin' the Strombergs (or other types Charlie offers) must have alot more choices for jets/metering rods... heck they bolt 'em on everything from Fronty's to Hemis. This all may not be necessary if you're staying close to stock manifolds, compression and cam specs, but when you're doing something radical it becomes a moving target that some real tuneability would help. And yeah, electronic injection would solve all that, but there's gotta be an easier way to do it with good ol' double deuces.Workin Stiff
