Road Draft Tube

Have any of you racers out there converted your down draft tube to an oil seperator? I have smoke/oil mist coming out of the downdraft tube on my tired 262, but not ready for rebuild yet. I figured the race tracks wouldn't let you guys just run with down draft tubes but I my be wrong there. I also was aware of the problems with converting to PCV. I added a link to what I had in mind.

the jegs item is for a differant kind of system. What we did on OVER HEAD VALVE ENGINES--on the valve cover we put tubes that an oil filler cap would fit on pointing up , cut hacksaw slits in them at 45 degree angles downward 3/4 of the way thru , slid a peice of tin in them and brazzed . these were located alternately from each side . The more you put in the better it trapped the oil while allowing the pressure to escape and the oil would drain back down to the engine . With more time than money you could do this with any cheap tubeing by useing a peice of it to make the angle to go to the engine and putting a flat peice on the end to put gasket on and seal ,but you have to point the tube up . Thanks for the response. I am having a little bit of a hard time visualizing what you are talking about, but I think I know what you are talking about. I will have to see how much clearance I have to mount a tube with my full length headers in there. Did your breather tube exit up by the head with another oil breather cap?

I did this on over head valve engines where they are on the valve covers. YOu would have to do as you are thinking and since it is temporary you can end up any place you have room just so long as you have it draining back down to the engine .---BUD
