motor mounts 350 in 34 hudson coupe suggestions?

    starting on my coupe and looking for motor mounts to mount a 350 chevy in my 34 hudson terraplane coupe hoping someone out there can suggest what ones to use this is the first thing I need to start my project any help is much apreciated

    The ones to use are the ones you make yourself. You used to be able to buy mounts for the common swaps- small block Chev in old Fords, Chevs, etc.- but would be willing to bet nothing has ever been available commercially for an offbeat car like your '34 Terraplane.

    thanks for your post I am figuring on having to do some fabrication.

    but really hoping someone has an idea of some that could be easily altered or has pics diagrams of some they have made since im sure others have already done this before.



    one person posted about having a 350 in there 34 but im waiting to see if I get an email back

    I don't have any pics, but a guy in Dayton, Ohio had a 34 with a 327 in it. This was in the late 60's I believe. I almost bought the car and I remember it had the front mounts like the 55/56 Chevys used. I'm thinking Speedway Motors sold them. It does away with the side mounts and mounts off the front of the engine.

    Bob is correct, Look for an early Chevy V8 (55 - 60)and it will have a front engine Plate similar to Hudson with L & R Mount Ears to adapt. ST Rod shops probably sell modern versions too....

    Kamel, I will take some pictures of my mounts and send them to you. I'm sorry I didn't get back to you sooner, but I started a new job and I've been really busy. My mounts were fabricated and I have a Mustang II front end on the car, so I don't know if I can get you a good reference point for the location. You'll probably need to have the engine and tranny placed in the position you want it using an engine hoist and weld in the mounts at this time. If you have never done this before, you may want to seek some professional help. Proper alignment is essential! Walt

    here is what I have so far



    350 chevy

    350 auto trans.

    9 inch ford rear 318 final

    48 ford front axle

    wishbone front suspension

    edelbrock manifold and headers

    32 chevy pheaton lights I think

    Straight axle & buggy spring are okay but suggest split and run the wishbone parralel to each side.

    I agree about the split wishbone, it was a very popular modification in the 50's and 60's. Seems to me that it gave the axle more freedom of movement and a greater range.

    ok thanks guys im thinking the type of wishbone your talking about is what I have the wishbone running down the sides of the car attaching to the frame attached is a pic





    not sure how the springs shocks etc attach yet haven't even thought of it thanks for the help though take a look and let me know if you can suggest what to use from the pic if anyone needs more specific pics taken in order to comment let me know

    Some torsion bars instead of the buggy spring from Chrysler products along with a sway bar or "JACOBS LADDER" as used on sprint race cars are easy to adapt to about anything and will make a great ride improvement and handling as well. You could do this front and rear . BUD

    You can use a set of these solid motor mounts to start out with. I have used them before and they work great and are easy to modify to your own needs. They are on ebay , sold by a company called KMJ Performance. ONLY 15 Bucks for the pair! I can't even make them that cheap, especially the time involved to fabricate them.



    I hope this helps you and others looking for a place to start with motor mounts.

    My dad told me the same thing! He also happened to have a couple in his garage so I took photos of them and here they are. He told me the same thing, they mount to the front of the engine block. I hope this helps.

    I can't recall for sure but I believe there were side mounts at the bell housing to support the weight on those early chevy V8's that had front mounts. It seems to me there would be alot of weight and stress on the bell housing and trans with front mount and trans mount. I have semi solid side mounts (polyeratan) on my car. I hate them. To much vibration. Going back to original rubber side mounts. There is a crossmember for 265-350 chevy V8's that fits frame widths of 24" to 37" and uses rubber engine side mounts. They can be bolted or welded to the inside frame rails. RB's sells them,www.rbsauto.com as well as many other street rod vendors. These vendors have many different types of frame mounts to choose from. The choice depends alot on type of steering and header clearances. Good project. Lee
