Pics of the elusive 36T glovebox springs.
-
This is going to be a tough one to find, because of the extra x-wrap from the torsion wind to the mounting screw, but these could be fabricated.
They're not that difficult to make with some simple homemade tools, gloves, safety glasses and an oven.
For anyone interested - I most likely have the right size spring wire already in my toolbox, but I would need at least 1 spring to get the size right.
I take it there is a left and right hand side that are opposite of each other? -
I'm a starter for 3 pairs of springs, 2 for the two cars and 1 spare pair!! Where do I send the money.........

Someone needs to send me a donor set of spring(s) first - maybe even send the glovebox door too and I can mount it to a piece of wood for testing - that'd be even better! -
Dan, could you go into detail as to how you make a spring? Alloy to use, and what is the oven for, etc.

Ask and you shall receive!
There's a small write up on my website under Custom HowTo -> Torsion Springs but I got my basic information from this site I found years back...
http://home.earthlink.net/~bazillion/torsion.html
I made my own tools to make the gas door windings.
Just keep in mind making springs is not without some potential physical peril - ie. you have to be really careful handling the wire while you're doing the winding.
The oven is used to "relax" the springs after winding - as you know anytime metal is bent it creates heat so you have to re-temper the wire afterwards. -
I'll have to look in my box o' parts, but I think I have a glovebox door that I could send ya (don't remember condition, though). I don't have any springs, though.
I've also got an entire '36 dash cut out of a parts truck, but shipping that would be prohibitively expensive, I bet.
And if we're lining up for "orders", I could go for 2 sets (one to use and one as a spare)
At your leisure, of course. -
Yes - I should qualify "donor" - in this instance this is only for measuring and visual reference..nothing will be destroyed and all returned!
I'll be glad to see what I can do - just send me an email and will exchange contact info. -
Rambos, any update to report on this little project?
-
count me in on ordering some,if you need another donor lid,i have one.
-
Just thought I would let you know that a friend of mine and I are having a company make these and hope to have a 100 sets right and left sides in our hands within the next 60 days.

Yee-haw, I won't need to set up that bungee cord after all. -
rocket that's great news, let us know as soon as you have them!
-
Yes that is super great news!
Hope 100 is enough, as the Terraplanes take 2 sets each!
Count me in for em.
Thanks,
Jeff -
I'll take 2 sets when they are done for our panel delivery.

Do these fit other years? If you have the part number I could check to see if at least it fits 1937.
Once they're in production, I'd be happy to list 'em on my Hudson Repro Parts list http://www.detailedconcepts.net/Repro_Table.pdf . I'd need a photo, the original part number if available, and the name, address, phone number and e-mail of the seller. Thanks!

I am looking for some springs for my 1939 Hudson Glove Box Door. Any help or assistance in locating springs for it would be appreciated -
I recalled seeing this thread on the subject, and thought it would be a good place to start.
