1951 rear axle
-
What style/model rear axle comes under the 1949-1951 mercury 2 dr? Is it just a hochkiss?
-
That would've been a Spicer model 44. It would have a bolt on rear sheet metal coeeth on the ring gear and the pinion gear stamped in itver and no 'pumpkin', the gears have to come out one at a time! Also look at the webs where the center section meets the axle tubes, the lower right one should have '44' cast in it. There might still be a small metal tag under one of the cover bolts on the left side, it would have the number of teeth embossed in it, pinion gears embossed in it, something like 9 over 37.
