brake pedal on a 1956 ford customline

I did a front end brake conversion from drum brakes to granada disc brakes, but the brake pedal is a little too loose for my liking. I checked brake pressure and for air in the brake system, but it was all fine. There's about two inches of free play when I press down on the the brake pedal, Is this fine or is there something I could do two have a little less looseness in the pedal? Any help is much appreciated.

Hi, I have owned two 1956 Fords as a young man, years ago now, and I still remember them well. The brake conversion you described sounds like a good one to me. The two inch free play in the pedal is probably all right. I generally recommend the free play to be less than one third of the rod length so this would fit in that range. If you want to shorten the free play and get a tighter pedal then you should have the brakes adjusted to do that. There is an adjustment screw on the inside of each wheel that can be accessed with a large flat point screwdriver or a regular brake adjustment tool. The method is to tighten the screw until the wheel will not turn , or just barely will turn, by hand and then to loosen the screw two turns and ensure that the wheel will then turn freely without any drag.
