52 lincoln capri desert racer engine question
-
I have a 52 lincoln capri it is equipped with the original y block 317 i think, the motor is shot, i found a rebuilt 57 lincoln continental motor 368- 300hp motor and i want to know if anyone knows if it will fit? Is it a direct bolt in swap or will modification be needed, will it bolt up to the hydromatic 4 spd trans thats in the capri. If anyone has done this it would be very helpful! or if they have knowledge of the compatability of the lincoln cars 52-57 thanks

I dont know if hydramatic will fit the 368 but I just discovered today that 'Wilcap' 805 481 7639 makes an adapter to chev auto od trans (200, 700,4L60, 4L80) any of these is vastly better than the turbodrive or hydramatic. They want $ 700 which seems kind of expensive but i have looked for decades to find a way to get rid of the turbodrive . its not a bad trans but starts in 2nd gear unless you floor it. The 368 is a good solid engine EXCEPT for rocker arm oiling. Read about problems and fixes before you put it in. The oil pump drive rod can break so if you lose oil pressure shut down immediately.
