I have a 1949 Mercury 8 cly. flathead that I want to put in my 1949 Ford F-1 pick up truck with a T- 5 speed transmission from a 1991 chevy S-10. I called Corn Huskers Rod and Custom for the conversion bell housing, clutch, pressure plate, and throw out bearing. I was told that my 11 inch fly wheel will not work for this application. He instructed me to find and buy a 10 inch long fly wheel that the three finger pressure plate will bolt on to. So, I looked on craigs list and ebay. I found nothing....I can buy a new one for an outragous amount of $400.00. Has any one done this type of conversion? And where can I find this fly wheel? What is the difference between the fly wheels, besides one inch? I'm a rookie at this type of stuff and not sure what I'm looking for. He told me not to get a diaphram??? And not a borgan beck??? I have no idea what he is talking about??

There are 3 common types of pressure plates. The Borg & Beck, the Diaphram, and the Long Style, also called a "3 finger clutch". The cornhusker bellhousing looks like the one I used to put a saginaw 4 speed behind my flatty years ago and uses a modified bearing retainer on the tranny that uses a early ford throwout bearing and Long style clutch. If your clutch pressure plate has 3 narrow fingers it's probably OK. If the fingers are wide it it's a borg & beck.
