Starting issues - 1968 Impala
-
I recently purchased a 1968 Impala SS Convertible. The car has the original 327 - 275 HP engine. Previous owner replaced the intake manifold with a Weiland. Also added a Carter carb and Mallory electronic distributor. The car turns over and sounds like it is going to fire, but as soon as you let the key go it dies. When it does fire up the cars dies as soon as you move it from Park to Drive or Reverse. It then takes a few tries to get it started again. Any ideas as to where the problem may be? My thoughts are its either the distributor or the carb. I have a Rochester 4bbl and an older GM HEI distributor that I want to put on the car that came off my '72 Corvette a few years ago. I also have an Edelbrock manifold that will go on instead of the Weiland.
Any help would be great. Thanks! -
I would put the intake and carb that you want to put on the engine first before you try diagnosing anything. See how things are at that time, then see what has to be done.

Have you tried shifting it in gear at a high idle ? IF that works it pretty much indicates the carb. BUD
