I'm New To Pontiacs...Advice on a Catalina?
-
Hi,
I drive a 1973 Volkswagen Sports Super Beetle, but I'd like to sell it and find something safer and something that will really move! I've been looking at a 1966 4-door Pontiac Catalina and I'm quite interested. It has a 389 4-bbl and the legendary THM-400 transmission. However, I don't really know what to look for when buying a Pontiac, so any advice on what to look for and what to do with it once I have one would be much appreciated.

Buying a Pontiac is no different then any other car. Check all the spots that are prone to rust, check the condition of all the fluids, see if you can have the car in the air to check the underside.
66 Pontiacs are great cars. I worked for a Pontiac dealership back in those days and grew very fond of them. The 389 was a super engine, reliable and strong. They are easy to work on and there are still plenty of parts around.

Thanks!
The Catalina in question seems so be alright rust wise, just some pinholes in the fenders behind the back wheel...after all, it is a New England car. However, I think it's very reasonable at $6000 OBO.

Best of luck with the car if you get it.
They're great cars, comfortable, good handling and stylish.
