1971 Ford Mustang Mach 1 Help
-
Hello,
My Aunt is giving me this car, I have been wanting this kind of car for years. So when I found out she had one that broke down awhile ago I asked her for it. She lives far away from me, I would pay for towing and any repairs.
It was not driven too long. However I'm not too car savvy. I have many friend who are will to help repair it, if I supply the parts of course.
The catch is the car was and has been sitting since it broke down, most likely 20 or so years.
I would like to know what is the worst possible case that is wrong with the car after it sits that long?
Also it is free, but after all the repairs and time put into it would it be cheaper to buy one, fully repaired or even in better condition then this one?
Please help,
Clayton -
" I would like to know what is the worst possible case that is wrong with the car after it sits that long?'
A difficult question to answer. Why did it break down? What kind of shape was it in when it broke down? Why wasn't it repaired when it broke down?
"Also it is free, but after all the repairs and time put into it would it be cheaper to buy one, fully repaired or even in better condition then this one?
Another tough one not knowing what shape it's in now, what happened to it and where has it sat for so long. i.e. conditions it was exposed to during that time.
Depending on the condition that you want it to be in when finished, it can go either way as to the money that will be spent.

Yes This will be an answer for both of you.
It broke down cause the trans failed. Uh its from ranchocucamunga if you don't know where that is and the spelling could be wrong it is a very hot area.
It was not fixed cause my aunt never had the money and when she did she already had another car.
When it broke down it was in perfect condition, nothing wrong with it other then the trans.
And it was kept in a garage since then.
I don't have pic cause I have never seen it, that why I'm asking cause I what to be prepared.
Sorry I forgot I post on this site, and it I thought it would email me when I got an answer/reply.
Thanks again,

Clay, you better get you a trailer and hit the road. A 71 mach 1 in driveing condition would cost you some really big bucks, very much in demand. A used but good tranny should be easy to find and not too expensive. When you get it home see if the engine is seized up. If it is get back on here and see what to do. Bud
