What size rim width have you guys installed on a stock Hudson spindle.

I have early dodge rims 5.5" and can get rim widths of same type in different widths. 6, 6.5,7 and up. I currently use 215/78 tires. As I work on handling I believe a wider rim will help when it comes to tire roll over when high speed cornering giving a little more tread to the road. I could of course get a rim mount a tire and try each different width checking for clearance, but if someone has already done it with a wider rim than I that would save a bunch of trips to the tire shop. I am also considering a move up to a 225/78. I am measuring rims bead to bead and not outside total width. I don't think that a lower profile tire would suit my car from an appearance perspective so want to tacle rim options first.

Hi All, Has any used a quick flow carb, was talking to them today and they jet the carb to suit the engine make up, I have a Edelbrock 800 Avs and it just too big for my engine and sucks juice OMG, might be lucky to be getting 8-10 miles per Gallon, they are stating that I would get a 35-40% more throttle response and much better fuel efficiency, there's 1 is 680 VS carb with

billet Ali bottom plate and metering blocks, not cheap but I have to think of the fuel long term,

I am considering changing the 3.5 in the 9" to 2.9 or somewhere around there as just under 4k revs at 60 miles an hour on the motorway and I want to do a lot of miles though in my insurance I am only allowed to do 3000 miles per year but at the price Iam paying for full cover ($780-00 NZ @ 150K)I can't complain

does anyone have the formula to work out this?

Rich Smithen's '28 Essex 2 door sedan S/N 900390 (rear shackle only) has been reported stolen to the LA County Sheriff. Rich writes "The best way to ID my car is by its vehicle number stamped into the right rear spring shackle. Number 900390. The fire wall has been modified so the ID tag was removed. A piece of a Wall Mart wheel barrow was welded in so that a Chev 350 engine could be fitted into the engine compartment. What stands out is that the wheel barrow is a bright green. Probably most noticeable color can be seen on the inside of the car. If this car is located, please do not contact this person, just call 9-1-1 and report the car as a stolen car thru the LA Sheriff Dept. So keep your eye open at car shows or for sale papers for a 1928 Essex two door sedan, rat rodded. It has a Ford 9 inch rearend, Lowered Essex front axel with Chev disk brakes. I did have a new Chev crate engine with rebuilt 350- transmission. New Edelbrock intake, with 650 carb and chrome air cleaner. Most likely painted primer black. Please pass the information to any and all HET members. Many thanks to our members."

Going through a divorce and need to sell this sweet car of mine...

Here's the list of things that have been done:

Engine/Tranny

Original 262 rebuilt will all new internals by Linden Well of Fort Morgan (he’s the HET club chapter pres.) Original Hydromatic automatic transmission functions perfectly, I’ve pulled the tranny pan and replaced the fluid which was perfect to begin with…replaced all seals.

Fuel System

Fuel tank was sent to Moyer Tank Renew for complete redo and it will never rust again (guaranteed by Moyer), all fuel lines and fuel pump have been replaced, the carb has been properly jetted and cleaned, all filters have been replaced as needed.

Electrical

Converted the 6v pos ground system to a 12v negative ground system with alternator with proper belts, Painless (18 circuit) wire harness, all new Classic Instruments gauges and fuel sender, updated headlights with a remote relay setup as to not overload the control switch, all emblems light up as they should, turn signals have been added (with hazards), interior white LED courtesy light setup, interior red LED light setup for night driving (gives a very cool appearance as you’re driving!), I’m an IT guy with attention to detail so I’ve mapped out ALL electric circuits broken down by systems using a vector program similar to CAD, new louder horns (currently are not hooked up, but could be very easily), all new ground system, new Optima Red Top battery, during winter I trickle charge and periodically drive as weather permits to keep all seals fresh and rubber pliable. Every socket on the car has been replaced with standard sockets which accept all the standard 12v bulbs.

Brakes

Replaced all brake lines, master cylinder, pads, wheel bearings, manual brake light switch (instead of the fluid pressure type), emergency brake lever does not work but the emergency brake system does work (that was by design from Hudson so if you lost fluid power braking you would then actuate the manual system and still stop!), radial tires all around, Moon caps on the front tires which look great, brakes have been properly bled and adjusted.

Suspension

All original suspension. I’ve replaced most of the rubber grommets under the car with the exception of the A arms and center point steering components. The rear has been lowered using lowering blocks from Moon (which could easily be taken out).

Body

The body is really in amazing shape with only minor dings and scratches. Any good body guy could take care of all of those things very quickly. I’ve shaved the deck and hood which gives the car a much more sleek appearance that the Brougham model really deserves. The door locks do not work, the rear lid locks. I have a brand new rechromed rear bumper and bumper ends from Glenn Johnson that I haven’t installed…this bumper is the one without the notch for the license plate which would further enhance the lines of the rear of this car. I’ve replaced the rear taillights with the reproduction KGap models and included blue dots in them with the blue dots having their own independent LED light source witch really makes them shine! I have not shaved the outside door handles. The window rubber could use replacing as well as the wind lacing. Under the car there is no rust, the only rust was in the passenger side floor pan which has been replaced. I believe this car has been in Colorado as there is hardly any rust on it anywhere and if there is it is surface rust which is easily brushed off.

Interior

The original floor mat has been removed and I have sound dampened/heat shielded the entire car using a product similar to Dynamat. All of the seats and door panels are all original in the Hunter green solid/weave combination. The headliner is original and in great shape considering her age. I have has the dash professionally painted and reupholstered (the area from the dash to the front window) in black leather. I’ve sought out the best chromed part for the dash that I could find, it looks smashing in black and chrome.

There really is too much to list here…and I have a bunch of extra parts such as the rare “porkchops” and rear stainless trim pieces. I also have an entire Craftsman tools chest (double decker) full of tools that I would throw in as well…I really just need to move this wonderful car.

sorry for such a long post but I trust you understand that divorce the worst thing next to death that one can exprerience and I simply need to sell this beauty.

Warm Regards,

From Hudson Dave:
I thought the boys on the form might get a laugh out of this. This is my next adventure . The frame Is a 1928 Hudson . The front clip is a 1939 Hudson . The body Is a 1934 Buick 4 door. The engine is a 1960 olds 394 with a hydro and rear end from the olds. It has 315 HP 4-1/4 in bore 10.0 comp. I am cutting 12 in. out of the front doors and removing the post and making a 40 In. door that opens from the back. (SUICIDE) I do believe. I will be cutting the olds dash and shorting it to fit the Buick This will be a hand full for at least the first 50 FEEEEEEEEET. It should get things going for awhile.
Best regards,

Within a recent thread concerning IFS and stub frames for Hudsons there was mention made of triangulated four-links for the rear suspension.

There is more than a bit on the web concerning this, but it all seems to envolve more 'basic' kits and quite a bit of improvisation and imagination...

Question - Has anyone considered using a rearend from a production vehicle that has has triangulated four-link, from the factory? In particular, I've been looking at an 8.8" Mustang rearend(96-02). It already has the attachment points for a triangulated four-link, and is within about 1 1/2" of the '46 & '47 Hudsons (59 1/2" vice 61"), is widely available in various gear ratios, and can be had with either drums or disc.

Also, here are some links with discussion, information, advise -
Notice the one in bare metal has a detail line added on top of the fender to match the head light ring. Super nice work on this chopped brougham. I believe the gentleman who ownes this car (and did the work) refers to himself as Hitch? If I remember right.
Obviously you clicked on this, so raise your hand now cuz you’re interested.

Now look around the room.

Yeah.

With this much interest, why hasn’t anyone done this? Sorry for the buzzkill guys, I don’t actually have a source for fiberglass Italia bodies. Your disappointment is my point. One excuse for this may be no one with an Italia would be willing to offer their car as a buck. I’m not buying it. Of course you wouldn’t cut up an original, but surely there’s gotta be someone with a ratty and/or disassembled example willing to take a couple-grand chance the layout process won’t damage his car any worse.

Most people have never even heard of an Italia, let alone seen a gassed one. Any doubts this would be a commercially viable project could be soothed if one of you guys would photoshop a rear quarter view of an Italia with tubs and a huffer. Or with a road-race chassis. Paint it a tasty two-tone or any dark solid and your rolling billboard would OWN any venue you attend or compete in. A coupla you guys said you’re looking for Hudson-based business ideas. So here’s mine. How fun would it be?

Okay now photoshop, help me out here...

Hi All,

Its the big day on Tuesday, the old girl has been called up for inspection from our Land Transport Authority for her final inspection and if all goes well I will receive ownership papers and a warrant of fitness, this has bee a long worrying process, so far has taken about 10 weeks, which will make her legal for the 1st time since 1945

I been under her cleaning it all up so the Bling (LOL) will stun them and make it a lot smoother i hope

I tell you next time I do something I will Make sure I have the ownership papers, as they are getting so tough here and its just not worth the greif

It will be registered back as originally a 1931 Essex Deluxe coupe

and will have the number plate 31 ESSX

The reason its worth getting it registered as vintage is that you only pay I think $95-00 for registration each year instead of $245-00 so its not so bad having her sitting around in the garage

thanks for all the help

I all, this carry s on from carb thread, I checked the diff ratios last night

the ratio is 3.5 as per what I thought I had installed

I have a short shaft turbo 350, do these all finish at 1;1 in top gear or is it possible they have different ratios?

Is there any way to identify 1 if it does have another ratio set without pulling the whole thing down?, as you know this is fully painted and I havent seen any tags on it

Thanks

Good day to all. I'm new here and I have a 1938 Hudson 2 door that I have had for nine years. I'm trying to get it back on the road. It has been to 3 different body shops and it seems that everyone is trying to screw me. I have the project going the right direction now. I put a mustange front end on it, a small block 327 with a 700 r4 trans, and posi rear end with disc brakes. I'm looking for some information as to where I can get some of the stuff needed to finish the car, window moldings, rubber for the running boards, just to name a few. If anyone has any info could you please help me out. I have a long way to go. Thanks guys:)

Hi folks. I've been slowly working on a '34 Hudson coupe street rod for all too long. Chassis work is pretty well done--dropped front axle w/discs, small block Ford, C-4 automatic and Ford 8" rear end. Chassis is sitting in box trailer while I work on body. It will be pretty much stock. It had a lot of rust so new tail panel under trunk and new lower doors and floors. Right now we're getting ready to install a sliding rag top in the opening for the fabric insert. I'll keep you posted.
