Hello all,

I picked up a 50 pacemaker a few months ago and jusst been driving it around. Looking to do some work on it over the winter. I see a bunch of old posts on various sites on disc brake conversions. Not looking to by the overpriced Kanter and other kits. There were some that modified the the original hubs but does not appear that anyone is still doing this. Does anyone have any current info on these kits?
Thanks

SO i'd been chasing this car for over a year, when i finally gave up she showed up.
It was my hair stylist that owned the car, the reason i hadnt seen it in forever, motor was blown. So i helped her replace the (sad but true) chevy 350 in it. I was happy i got to work on it but low and behold the motor blew along with the trans and boom my time came. I got this ride at about 1500 and put her back together problem is now im not satisfied with the run of the mill chevy motor in her. I picked up a cadillac 472 with the turbo 400 trans to drop in. Ordered a set a mounts from a buddy on the hamb, suddenly im worried about the kinda power this motor puts out. Far as i know the rearend is now a ford 8.8 i'd have to check the gears. Anyone have experience in this motor/trans combo?

Hi guys, just thought I'd join up and introduce myself. I have just got my 27 tudor Essex on the road. I fully boxed the frame and fitted a locally made IFS in the front and four bars with a Salisbury diff in the back. disc brakes all round and running a Chev 350/TH350 combo.
It goes pretty good and we've done a few local runs to iron out the boggies, which included cracking the block on my fresh motor because of cooling issues:angry: .
Anyway hope to get some good info from the forum.

Here are some pics of my (wife's) 53 Hornet that has bee passed down to us from my father. It has been in my family for over 40 years. I pulled it out of my fathers back yard about 20 years ago when I was in high school and got it to run, and have been tinkering with it on and off since then. About 10 years ago my wife expressed an interest in have her own car to cruise, and she really liked the old ratty Hornet, so I got it functional and sprayed some sealer on it, and she loved it, but it was time for a face lift, so over the last 2 weeks I put some paint on it and put all the trim back on it (hasn't been on it in 30 years!) The car has 75000 original miles, it is a .100 over, (yes 1/10 of an inch!) 308 with Twin-H and a Clifford 1956 mechanical grind cam, and it a Hydro-matic. I have a long tube Clifford header to put on it but I'm not sure how to run the exhaust because it sits so low. The paint I used was from Hot Rod Flatz, a mixture of there gunmetal grey met. and black met. I was not real happy with how it sprayed, but after it cured we scotch-brighted it and it looks much more uniform.

anyhow here are some pics of the exterior redo:
Just thought I'd post a few pictures of my '48 I took apart, installed chevy motor, tranny, Ford rear-end, and 4 wheel disc breaks, drove for a couple of years, and then took "COMPLETELY" apart again, to paint, chrome, and polish everything, and re-assemble. I changed the color from Silver and Dove grey, to Brown Metallic Pearl, and Cream Beige. It took a lot of block-sanding to get it smooth, and so far all I've gotten painted is the hood,trunk-lid, and 4 doors. I only get to work on it in my spare, spare-time.

I've seen this one many times, both on eBay and on the web. It had/has been offered for years. As I recall, the seller last wanted around $50K for it. Can't tell now, as it is a reserve auction...

Some nice lines, features - but a lot of stuff that aren't my 'cup of tea' (metal bed for one, dash for another).

It is registered as a'46, however has a '47 SN and grille piece. I have photos of the previous listing(s) around here somewhere which show the serial number plate. Seems that at the time the vehicle was registered, if it was sold in '46, it was a '46...
Picture of my Hudson Drag Car I recently debut at Summit Motorsports Park Drag Strip after a decade of building as an 'on & off' Project. My second time out today, at Thompson Raceway Park in Oh. ran about 10 - 12 mph shy of my 100 mph goal. More work in progress is planned with F/Inj, NOS, and Trans Brake. The Hudson drew a lot of interest even from the faster Pro Mod guys along with guys that had one back in the day hardly leaving time to make couple Runs.

I had a similar Hudson street/Strip car back in high school using the late Jack Clifford's equipment. Today, 50+ yrs later, I owe a thanks to Randy Maas for his research & development program that provides modern Speed updates for Hornets's along with a lot of advice that helped re-create my car.

Hi All,
I don't know about you guys up there in the States but down under we are no longer using asbestos based products for brake linings,
I have been looking at doing a major brake up grade on my coupe and had 1 of my
new hot rod club members(1 of them worked in racing brakes supply for years) around checking her out (coupe)
He was indicating if I could find the old sort of linings material the brakes I have would be as good as up grading to Wilwoods
especially since there is so much air movement around the old girl and all the rotors are already vented etc
He said if I could find the right material, he has got someone that could bond it for me and save a bucket load of money
interested in feed back
the rears are disc 9", front are Holden disc (GM)
I can go to some soft shoes but they make a helova lot of mess especially to polished mags etc
thanks

Long story short, I know a guy who knows a guy who lets me get first crack at the stuff that comes in to the local wrecking yard.

While in the middle of picking up the wife's new car(which is on her dime)

I spotted this.

1951.The Car is Canadian built, model 11a. I've been having a time looking up info on it ,as the US and Canadian serial numbering systems differ.
As I mentioned in another post, it has a 318 Poly in it. NOW, having 6 other cars is already a handful, She couldn't go to the crusher,so, for the scrap value of it, She's commin' home with me.

Floors are crunchy, complete mouse and moth eaten interior and a random drive train( misc. transmission, barnyard engineering motor mounts),but it's all there and reasonably solid. first order of business is to hunt down some front wheels so it's not sitting in the dirt. It's gonna be a slow project, probably not gonna be in full swing for a year or two, but I can chip away at her on the side.Pending the sale of one of my Beetles may give this a small financial boost, however

I was never hankering for a Hudson, but being a Jeep man, I respect the Hudson/Nash/Willys/AMC/Jeep bloodline. And there are few enough Hudsons that it's not a belly button tri five Chevy or shoebox Ford.
I'm also looking for pearls of wisdom about the model and the Canadian-ness of the car.

Thanks for your time
Unique for sure, though I think a bit too much noise for my taste. Wasn't someone talking about diesel powering a Hudson around here? Might be a cool set up for a pickup with exhaust running out the back tough.

Here's the thing... I've never seen a 308 running in person, they just aren't that common around here.

I'd really like to know what my 308 might look and sound like running. I think it's incredible how sedate and quiet they are with full exhaust, but as mine will most likely be straight piped and possibly a little lumpy, I'm curious what sound I can look forward to.

Weird request I know... but its kind of sad that the closest I've come to hearing that is sitting in the dark playing that one scene from Cars where Doc Hudson idles on the dirt track over and over... PLEASE HELP ME! I know that I wont here French horns and strings every time I turn the key but I still get goosbumps every time.

Came across this '53 Hudson Cpe under construction in NC during a recent Trip. Thought was neat the way he moved in the original Hudson Uniframe Rails to make 'Tubs' and inboard & outboarbed the rear shocks. The whole floorpan was removed by cutting spot welds so it can be re-used by someone....

Hello all! I'm somewhat new to the forum, and now that I have a Hudson, I feel I can join the fun! I found the old girl on a farm surrounded by more than 500 vehicles, but she was the most interesting. If I can pop out the roof, she will make a cool ride! I figured that the possible outcome outweighs the risk of purchace. The pics are of my first glance at her and after loading her on a trailer for the long trip home. I will update this topic when I have made progress of sorts, but will be slow as winter is setting in and I have another project on the go.

I've been working on bodywork all winter. Just got it into primer this past weekend.

Next up, PAINT! It's going to be 53 Buick Titan Red. I tell you what, it was a HUGE amount of work to get this thing straight.

Here's a quick list of what I've done with the car:

Top chopped 2 inches.

Nosed, Decked, Shaved.

Custom grille opening.

Smoothed fenders and front clip.

Narrowed peaked and sectioned 54 Olds grill

52 Ford fender flares in front

VW Bus flares in rear

Custom rockers and door bottoms

53 Olds dash

1 piece rear bumper , sectioned the ends and filled the mounting holes

filled front bumper.

Here's what I started with:

Here's how it looked last summer in sealer:

And this past weekend:

Just got back from a day at the Lone Star Round UP . This is a huge Hot Rod meet being held this weekend in Austin Texas. Folks from across the USA and around the world are in attendence. I got to talk with visitors to Texas from California, Colorado, Arkasas, Florida, New York, Mississippi and Sweden. Most drove thier cars to the meet. Incredibily the Swedish fellow has several cars stashed in US Storage so he can come to US get cars out and attend these meets!

A sometimes poster on this BBS from West Palm Beach Florida drove his 49 Hudson Coupe from Florida again this year. The car is pictured below. It is powered by a Hornet motor backed by a dry clutch set up with a 4 speed trans. Really reliable and very nicely done Hudson hot rod.
