Anyone know what motor that is ? Is that only Hudson's that were equipped with Hydramatic?

Howdy - it's been a long winter and I have been gathering parts ... and my latest acquisition is what appears to be a 27 Essex coupe. However, what I have in my garage already is somewhat of a mystery (please see attached photos). I've been told it was a 25-26, possibly a 29, and I think it's a 28. It definitely is NOT a 27 like the one I just brought home. Tracking down definitive info is tough. Any help or tips and tricks for identifying exactly what it is would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks ahead of time.
The truck has an aftermarket wiring harnes from ezwiring, and both of the wires for the gauge and sender say the same thing on them, would reversing them make this happen? any suggestions would be appreciated, i am goin nuts with this and Dolphin is closed til monday! thanks in advance!

this is posted on the general forum also, but being this is a subject on reproduction fiberglass parts I figured i'd post it here as well.

Okay folks, I called Walter Mason (waltla), with an idea I had and this is how it went down with the guy wanting to do it. After I grinded the paint off my rear quarter panel that I have posted on "started tearing it apart thread".....I had the idea what if.......what if I could duplicate these in fiberglass??.....I then called up a reknowned fiberglass man In my town and discussed what I wanted to attempt. His reply was "I can do that no problem" I went to his shop and discussed it a little more and settled on him doing my hood and both rear quarters as reproductions. First he wants to make a permanent mold or "pig" as he says, then reproduce a handful of the hoods and sedan rear quarters as complete bolt on units, That is If I thought he could possibly see a future in interest. I told him it would be strictly supply and demand of course, but I could foresee SOMEONE needing a reproduction glass hood or quarter panels. He says if he could get a hold of a few different year quarter panels he would be able to reproduce them as that is what his main goal is here I think. We are both just getting into this project and prices have not been discussed yet at all. I can say he will CHEAP!!!!!.......SO, what does everyone think?.....would anyone be interested in reproduction glass quarter panels??......so far I have only my quarters to make molds from and they would be for my 1949 sedan but more years and models could be had!......give me some feed back!

Right now we are past the tear down stage and have bought an old junk yard Firebird subframe. We have sand blasted it,taken all apart for rebuild and for very litttle money have gained a new style front end with disc brakes, ball jt suspension and PS,PB. We plan to spline the steering col into the new steering gear hub.It simply unbolted from the GM frame and I think we can attach it to the Hudson with little problem.Has anyone out there done this ??
We knocked the dust off the old girl shot a coat of primer on it and headed to Charlotte and Pinks All Out at Zmax dragway. We didn't get picked for the show but the car did great. My torque converter is too tight and I don't have quite the right rear gear ratio, but running the 750 carb instead of the 1050 she ran 10.24 @ 132 in 90 degree heat. The car hooked well and was very easy to drive. I feel once we get the big carb. on it and the gear and converter issues solved we are looking a 9.80s easy!

I 've had my 47 truck home for a few weeks now, and managed to get a couple hours into it. Aside from inspecting it a little better and making a mental "to do" list, I've starting getting the motor ready to try to start.

It's a sb chevy 350, which I have zero experience with before this. It hasn't been run in at least 3-4 years per the previous owner, but I wouldn't be surprised if it's been more like 6-8 years. After replacing the battery post clamps, I was able to short out the solenoid and get the starter to spin. It wouldn't engage however, so I pulled it and found that the bendix wasn't kicking out at all. The solenoid was also intermittant, $50 later I picked up a reman. lifetime warranty one. BTW chevy guys, starter shims?? There's one reason to put a Hornet engine in it! lol

Tonight I put in the new starter, pulled the plugs, and shot a bunch of MMO down each cylinder to let it soak. I cranked the engine a few times and plan to let it soak a day or so before I move on.

Next I want to try to get it fire by jumping out the ignition directly from the battery. What's the best way to do this? This engine has the large delco remy distributor with the coil built in.

By the weekend hopefully I'll have made some more progress and post some pictures.

Sorry guys, been dealing with some financial difficulties, filing for SSDI, mortgage modification issues, etc. I have been trying to deal with getting used to my health issues which has not been easy. My nerve disease took an aggressive turn a few months ago and it has not been fun. What is difficult is that other than the damage to the nerves themselves, nothing else is physically wrong with me. Its what the nerves are telling the brain that is the problem, such as ice-cold feelings in the feet and lower legs when its 90 degrees outside! Or the constant pain signals sent to the brain though there are no injuries (other than the nerve damage) on or in the body.

3-4 mornings a week, I wake up at 3-6am with the feeling that my lower legs are being crushed and massive electrical shocks (feels like a 2" diameter) are being sent throughtout them between my ankles and knees (though sometimes now, up past the hips). The pain is so massive that I go into my garage so my screaming (and sometimes crying like a baby-and that ain't so easy to admit guys) doesn't wake up my young son. It matters not whether you are lying down, standing, or walking, the pain is the same. Last Friday morning the excruciating pain lasted for a straight 1 1/2 hours! I cried like a baby and screamed so loud I thought I was going to die!

I continue to be on nerve blockers (3600mg of Neurotin) and Methadone daily and have already become an addict. No big deal as I will be on them for the rest of my life (I will be 47 next month), though I am due to find a pain management doc who will probably double my current daily dosage of Methadone. I have tried to keep increases in pain killers to a minimum as my tolerance will grow and larger amounts will be needed as time goes on and I'm not exactly that old right now. But the pain is too much for me to handle now at current drug dosages. I will be 47 years old next month and can look forward to this disease for the rest of my life. It will not kill me, just make my quality of life, a bit more difficult over the years. There is currently no cure, and some non-traditional treatments have not proved to help as the damage is too extensive according to those docs.

We are most likely going to lose our home, though my wife is working all she can and my disability will most likely take another 12-18 months to start paying, we cannot keep up the payments on our first and second mortgage. But at least renting is alot cheaper these days and I have learned to be much more humble and not so proud these days. I just hope to find a home that has some room for my projects and close enough to my wife's students so that she doesn't lose any (we cannot afford for her to lose any students).

But, I have a wonderful family, a great wife whom I owe my life to, and a wonderful young son who is the light of my life. We are currently building his '56 Dodge 2dr HT. Watching him grow up and working and saving money together for his car, are great therapy for me and a good bonding time for him and I. We don't have much cash for this so we are going to use the 'Vette LT1/4L60e set-up I have for the Hudson in his Dodge. I'm going to sell the 315 V8 I had built, cause I don't like the expensive tranny situation we are left with, and the 'Vette stuff is already in the garage. Another SBC, I know, but doesn't bother me, and it means we can most likely finish his build. The Hudson will get built someday, there is plenty of work I can do now that cost nothing, stripping, bodywork, installing my Fatmans MII suspension, etc. This is the best medicine I can have.

Please don't get me wrong, I do not seek pity. But, some of you have asked (and you'll never know how much I appreciate that) how I have been doing. I hope this explains why I am not always around here. I have my good days and my bad days. I spend more time in bed lying on my side than I care to, but it is what I have do. Sometimes, when my hands and fingers are hurting alot, I cannot type, as it feels like pounding your fingertips on the tips sewing needles. Lowering my stress level helps some, but honestly, I feel best when lying on my side in bed since the worst pain occurs in my hands, feet, and ....."tail end" (if you get what I mean! lol). My neighbor has been great, helping to get some bodywork and other fabrication work done on our Dodge. Most of our friends have been very understanding, not asking anymore why I appear to limp, or can't handle firm handshakes, etc. They know I can't sit nor stand for much time, don't stay up late cause I get tired easily (too many meds), can't drive for longer than 45 minutes as I get too tired and start to babble non-sensical things due to the drugs, and have a very bad short-term memory (due to the drugs and other brain issues).

But, other than that......everythings CHERRY!! Hell, at least I have my eyesight, limbs, and some brain left, though some may debate that. There are plenty of folks out there who have a much harder life and medical conditions than I. So, I will be fine and have learned to make necessary adjustments in my life. So, offers of a helping hand on our projects are fine, but pity is not allowed!

Here's hoping everyone has as good a life as possible, remembering what is really important, to be a good friend.

Thanks,

I am waiting on some parts to come in before continuing work in the engine compartment so I worked in the fuel tank area yesterday. The new poly tank is now secured in place. I made a new metal panel to separate it from the passenger compartment. I used 19 ga. steel and used my bead roller with a tipping wheel to make the flanges on the curved part before welding the pieces together. There will be a complete sealed "firewall" here eventually.
Just a safety precaution!

I installed a product from "it's a snap" to replace the entire vacuum wiper system. modified original towers to be driven by this system. This system is the exact same idea that has been used on the Austin mini for decades.

Product is very flimsy, and may work OK in a straight line but is not built heavy enough to withstand the motor torque to go around corners. The sections that drive the wipers are made from light guage sheet and they spread very easy under load.

I solved that problem using some heavier backing plates, Added some bracketry to eliminate tubing movement also so I thought I was good to go. Used wipers for 20 minutes cable broke so I guess it was "It's a snap"

broke where it attaches to a pressed on tube at the drive end.

Thought product was inferior but was willing to try again. Called factory to buy cable expecting the usual "it must be how you installed it or somehow it had to be my fault" Well I did not even get that. I was advised they don't have any in stock and that I should weld it. In one word JUNK
