FYI

If anyone is interested Rather than cutting holes in the firewall for a dual cyl and swing pedal, I am installing a '72 Ford Torino (drum brake) dual master cyl #10-1519 (Advance Auto) onto the '37 to '47 Hudson under floor brake pedal assy by doing the following...Cutting a 1/4" mild steel plate 3 3/4 H X 5 1/2 W, countersinking 3 perimeter holes using button head (flush) allen bolts (to retain the adapter onto the original Hudson pedal bracket), then hole sawing a 1 3/4' center hole and drilling one hole on the left & right side of the adapter to bolt on the wider flange Torino cyl.

The Master Cyl comes with a new push rod that needs shortened to aprx 4 1/8" .The stock clevises will need re-adjusted for pedal height. The mechanical rear brake feature can still be retained if desired. (If you dont want to make an adapter you can buy one from ECI Inc.) (www.ecihotrodbrakes.com). Its Listed for old Fords, but the Hudson Master cyl is identical.

Naturally you need to seperate your front & rear lines and if Disc are utilized the Master would be a different number. Addittionally, I discovered the larger Hornet 11 x 2/ 1/4 front brakes hubs & back pl;ates will interchange with swapping one brg race/cone providing greater braking.

FYI

I began St Rodding an elegant '37 Hudson '8' Cpe last fall (to pass time until my new Hornet Drag Motor is machined after finding an unrepairable water leak in my last motor just built), then I plan to take a break to assemble & install the new motor in my Stepdown Racer.

I always thought about chopping one of these but hate to destroy the originality, so I stripped the body and had it softly sandblasted, repaired, and painted in Hot Rod Black Sealer (for now). This car came from Jim Wildrick and was'nt real bad. Jim was nice enough to woodgrain the dash & mouldings for me. So far, I have installed the following updates....

Installed Bronco XL Trip Speedometer, all 12V Instruments into original cluster, Narrowed 9" Ford Traction Loc Rear, dissembled, lubed, & re-arched the rear leaf springs with nylon sliders, then Installed Lowering Blocks, Bronco rear Sway Bar, and Lakewood Ladder Bars. Additionally, I had bumpers rechromed, fuel tank ReNewed, installed an Impala Tilt Wheel & P/B Pedal Assy, bent a Roll Bar to 'bolt in', and currently installing a 2000 Bonneville Power Seat to the original Hudson 'swivel' bracket.

Next, I will begin on the front end... I have a Pr of Carrerra Coil Over Shock/Springs, and Monti Carlo Rack & Pinion to install onto the straight Axle eliminating the leaf springs or Torque Arms (TBD). Attached are a few pictures as it comes together ...

Ive been lurking long enough and figured I should start my own build thread to help keep myself motivated. Im posting in the Street rod forum as Im planning on adding some custom items, modern updates and personal touches to the car.

I set out to find a 52 Hornet last year to use as a family commuter for summer months, and to have a car that was big enough, and safe enough to haul myself, wife and toddler to car shows or other functions. I chose 52 as I like interior color and style, the body style, trim and running gear the best of the stepdowns. A 4 door was the chose becsue of price, user friendliness to tote a family around in and I never really understood why coupes are more sought after in the first place.

Heres some pics of the car when I bought it and drove it home about 100 miles last October.

This is the 118 wheel base Series 92 as featured in the 1952 Motor Trend and today I got started. Because someone chopped up the frame to fit a Chevy v8 I have decided that I will need a new frame. I also want power disc brakes all around, power steering and possibly air conditioning so I picked up a Chevrolet S10 long wheel base and disassembled it. All I have in place now is the frame, front end and wheels to help in moving it around. I am going to clean up the frame and paint it and then start fitting some body parts to determine where to mount the engine. I also expect to section the frame in the center area and drop it eight to ten inches. Photos will start showing up on this post in a few weeks...

I am building a 36 Terraplane with a Ford Flathead for power, I can not modify and use the original rad because the bottom tank is to small to install a second outlet for the dual water pumps. Has anyone uses an after market rad that fits fairly decent? It does not have to be made for a flathead, I can modify it if it is set up for say a Chevy. The closest to the original dimentions that I could find was an alluminum by Griffin for a 31 Ford at around $600 - $700.

If you got a 47' and don't want to see that bottom hinge sticking out,...suicide doors might be your solution. I always forget to take before and in process pictures. But, here's a few. About half way through.

This gave me an idea. Hey "Ron P", how about lambo doors on your twenty-nine?

I purchased this car in October 2004,with the intentions to street rod it. I thought maybe a few years it would be done and on the road. Things did not go as planned, life and kids had taken priority and I just did a little bit to it now and then over the past 6 years. Now here in November of 2010, I am back on the project in full force and hope to have it on the road by spring 2011. In my 6 years of slow but steady progress,I have totally boxed in the frame, installed a beefy ford 9 inch rear end, a mustang II front end,car is sitting on Air Ride Technologies air ride all around with Wilwood brakes. I totally rebuilt a Ford 351W engine and a Ford AOD transmission, thus the name 39fudson with all the Ford parts, have my wife to thank for the name. I custom made a new firewall, floor pans and tail pan, put in a recessed licence plate and 3rd brake light below the rear windows, filled in the dash holes and glove box and moved the lines of the dash, some other little body mods here and there. I have also custom built a 25 Gallon Stainless steel gas tank. To get this car back on the road for now I am going for the barn find look on the exterior(Patina)except 95% of this patina will be real. Originally gun metal blue in color someone had brush painted over it with black paint. I am going to try to match all new metal to look like the rest of the body, use the old door handles, pitted and rusty gas cap, original tail lights. I have the center grill but am going to have to custom make some side grills. Car will have no stainless trim or bumpers,I sold those on ebay long ago, and side mirrors are a must for safety issues. The inside will be new and somewhat nice with suede and leather interior, a chrome ididit steering colum with shift on the column that matches the rims along with Vintage A/C. It wont sit anymore, I am ready to drive it! In full force, ready set go - wish me luck!!!
