Hello all,

Out of the blue, I've found myself with this Impala sedan. A friend was in a bind and was about to sell it to a salvage yard for $665. I thought what a shame, and decided to offer him the money and tow it home instead.

He had driven it regularly until, one day, he needed the battery for another car, removed it, and let the Impala sit in the driveway for 2 or 3 years. I've tinkered with an old Mustang before, but I'm a novice, and have no idea what to do (fluids, plugs, etc.) prior to attempting a start.

This is all I know about it:

Tires are flat
Needs a battery
Needs body work on one side, and rust areas taken care of
Front bench should be reupholstered
Needs a re-key on one door

Second question: If it runs, is this worth restoring? Or is it worth more as parts?

Thanks!
Carrie

I am looking at getting a 67 chevy Impala, and I had a few questions for you guys.

The Impala I am looking at getting has a 327 Engine, that will most likely need to be replaced, and a 2 speed automatic transmission, again most likely will need to be replaced. so, here is my question, would it be possible to put a 4 speed automatic tranny onto the 327 Engine, or am I stuck with the 2 speed? if so, how much does a new/rebuilt 4 speed tranny cost?

any other information any of you may have on the car will also be greatly appreciated, thanks

My friend lived next-door to a retired Chevy dealer in Kansas who told him about '56 Vette pedal car giveaway that sold more full-size Chevy's than any other promotion at the time. Kids would drag their parent into the showrooms and the salesmen would take over. Not all dealers could get the junior Vette's and the ones outside the big cities had to pull strings with the corporate boys. A fascinating piece of GM history.

(Was just told this might be a Chevy set, so am posting here too).

Found a mint-in-the-box set of four pristine auto seat covers, complete with instructions, wrench, etc. The instructions are marked 1955. They can fit two door or four door sedans. I suspect this is a great find, but I'd love to know more about them before I list them.

I can't find anything similar online, i.e. original vintage car seat covers. (All I could find was a repro set at over $1,000). Are these for Chevrolets? What maker/model/year will they fit besides 1955? What info should I include when I sell them? What sort of value are we looking at? My guess is that someone who restores classic cars would dig these. Totally original from the 50s, never used. Thanks!
I was told it had the original engine and in 1950 the powerglide was suppose to be available with only a 235 engine. However the number on the block 3835497 and under that is a 9, I believe those numbers shows it to be a 1950 216 engine. The vin no. is 8HJK-56222 style no. 50-1237 body no. S46218. The head no. is 3835517 with a 39 under that. Other no’s on the head are con12 and under that is J90.

The engine serial number behind the distributor is X805603 and I don’t know how to interpret the engine numbers. I’m trying to confirm the date the engine was made. I’m wondering if it’s possible that GM put in a 216 either by mistake or they didn’t have a 235 to put in at that time. The engine needs rebuilding and if it is the original engine I will rebuild it and re-install it. If it is not the original engine I’ll junk it and install a 235.

Any advice or help would be very much appreciated.

Thanks,

Well I've ran into another little "snag". I've recently been trying to get my horns working on the Delray and sadly one of the previous owners decided to strip/cut/solder etc. some of the wires going into the horn relay. I'm pretty sure the horn relay is no good, that's not a big deal though, they are cheap. My big concern is the fact that my right hand horn (while facing the front of the car) does not work. My big question is where can I find a new one and how do I know if it's the high tone or low tone horn.

Thanks,

Hey guys. I have inherited a 55 Chevy that my dad bought in 1970 to restore. He never restored it and it has been kept in a garage for the past 38 years. It seems rust free except for some specs on the chrome. I would bet that the paint is original.

Oh yeah, no engine or transmission! They were stolen years ago from the garage. The interior definitely needs work too although the dash looks good. I don't think I will have the time/money to restore it. I am wondering what I could get for it. If I sell it, what do you think I should expect to get?

Hi,

My name is Jack-57ChevyWagon. I am new here and have a question about my 1957 Chevrolet 210 Townsman 6 passenger station wagon.

Before I acquired this car, it had been garaged for at least 20 years in the US east coast climate. The car now resides with me on the west coast in CA, when I put some gas in the tank, I found there were a few leaks so the tank was immediately drained, filler tube, straps and sending unit removed. The cold weather and 51 years must have rusted the inside of the tank, so it's time to replace it.

My question is: The tank will not slide down past the differential and I wanted to know if there is something I am doing right. I have tried everything possible, there is a spare tire area, but it is part of the body and can't be removed. It seems to be a easy but tricky removel for me.

In all my years of working in auto wrecking yards and dismantling cars, this is a first for me, so I am asking for any help/advice in this matter. Let me know, it would be most appreciated.

Thanks in advance,
