Hi,

I drive a 1973 Volkswagen Sports Super Beetle, but I'd like to sell it and find something safer and something that will really move! I've been looking at a 1966 4-door Pontiac Catalina and I'm quite interested. It has a 389 4-bbl and the legendary THM-400 transmission. However, I don't really know what to look for when buying a Pontiac, so any advice on what to look for and what to do with it once I have one would be much appreciated.

Here it is

Once apon a time I traded a write off I bought for the computer for a 1966 Canadian Pontiac 2-door Sport Coupe (Custom Sport tags) Parisienne on the rear. After 12 years in a field and a afternoon of fluids, tires and power we drove her out of a field.

My oldest son loves it (so do I), it's a complete 12K car, no frills, bucket, concole and a clock that works. The paint pencil on the firewall is just like it has never seen light.

What I know?

This Cdn Pontiac was built on a 1966 US impala frame with all body mounts down an impala. I have fame spec for both 65/66 impala and CDN Pontiac.

The power plant is a 283 Chevy and two speed Powerglide.

I believe

The body (Fire wall too Trunk floor) is a Pontiac Catalina Ventura hardtop coupe.

The question

Floor pans, braces and trunk pans ?

Is there an supplier of Cantalina pans ?

If not would a starting place be impala pan's?

Hi im new to the site.

This is a very cool forum.

I have 1972 pontiac lemans luxury coupe that has a mysterious stalling problem sometimes when I stop at lights and what not. Its been through 3 mechanics who cant seems to figure it out. Any suggestions? A lot of work has been done already, i mean its a simple engine 455 bbl HO V8. It rides fine around 40moh and up. Below 40 it putts a bit and gets really quiet. Then bolts ahead a bit at take off.

Its my main car to drive what should I do?

Also do any of you know where I can locate a manual for the car- possibly to download?

Or even images or a diagram of the engine.

None of the dipsticks or caps say what fluids go where, and I am new to classic cars and could use some help.

Hi,

I look forward to visiting with everyone here on the board. I am not only new to the board but new to the Pontiac/GM scene. I've recently converted from the Mopar clan when I purchased my 1970 Pontiac Lemans Sport. I have a question about the brakes. The car currently has drum brakes on the front...power assist I believe, and I am wanting to convert it to disc. What other models do I need to look for that have the proper spindles and equipment needed? I would like to see if I can find the parts before I have to consider shelling out the bucks for a new conversion kit. Would the spindles from an 85 Olds Cutlass fit? A friend said if they'll work I can have them. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Again, I look forward to talking to everyone.

Hello,

My name is David and I'm 21 from Southern, WV. I've been registered here for a while, but haven't really posted much. I own and drive a 1952 Pontiac Chieftain daily. It has the original 268 Straight Eight and Hydramatic transmission. Engine and trans are original and never had a rebuild and currently have over 100,000 miles on them. Over 30,000 that I've put on it myself with no serious problems. I've owned this car for close to 4 years now. It's built to be driven and that's what I do with it.

I am currently going through another 268 Straight Eight that's been completely rebuilt and bored .060 over. I'm replacing all gaskets and painting it up now. Should have it ready to drop in around spring time. I only get to work on it when weather permits since I don't have a garage and I work full time so it's hard to find time to work on it much.

My dad got me into working on old cars at a really young age... Although I'm only 21, I have owned, built and worked on 20+ cars ranging from years 1925-1964. This Pontiac is the only car I've ever built that I wouldn't sell. I'll probably have this as long as I'm still around

I just got my first project car. I got a good deal on this 79 trans am with a few (what I though) would be quick easy things to fix on the engine and breaks. I put the new line in, and master cylinder (came with the car, guy didn't have time to fix her up anymore), but apparently the big problem is the brake partitioning valve. I cant get any shop to order me one, I looked at 10 different junk yards in the Kansas City area, even ebay dosnt have it. This is the last thing I need to get fixed before I start interior repairs. Is there a good place online to go to look for classic parts?

I've created a problem for myself and need some help. I am putting together a 66 Lemans to look like a GTO. I had to find a complete 326 for it and did so. After having the engine built and getting everything done and ready to set in the car I discovered that it's an older model engine and has no place to mount a starter. Now what I need to do is find an older model bell housing (for 326) that has starter mouting holes. I have the automatic transmission that came in the 66 Lemans.

This is a new experience and I'm learning as I go. If anybody can offer suggestions or tell me where to find an old style 326 automatic bellhousing I would appreciate it very much.
I figured it would be best to come here and ask the pro's.

I've been looking forever for a 4bbl manifold for my 78 Grand Prix. Its a 4.9L 301 with a 2bbl but i'm turning this car into a street and strip car, and i don't think a 2bbl will to the job. So if anybody knows where I could get my hands on a 4bbl manifold for this car please repost or e-mail me at jrthudgens@hotmail.com

Replaceing stainless trim clips idea

I am polishing the stainless trim on our 53 Chieftain and found that some of the clips were either broke or I broke the clip on the removal process.

Unable to find the exact ones I needed easily, as it seems every piece of trim uses a different clip, ( some pieces use 3 different types!) I am useing nylon / poly screws.

Fasnal had a large head ( elevator bolts) I just grind off opposite sides of the head to fit the trim channels, and slide into place to match the mounting holes in the body.

I have used these even where a spring loaded type clip was originally used if I can get to the back side of the body part to put the nut on the stud.

I am using the original clips for places I don't have access to screw on a nut.

I am putting a small neoprene washer on the outside just to try to seal the hole to prevent water getting inside the door, etc and creating rust around the hole.

You may already know about this, but I thought I would pass it on as I have found it works very well.

our car took 1st place in the restored / original sedan class.

We were very happy and surprised !.

The show had 250 cars entered that were very high quality.

It was the ninth annual and the show keeps getting better. As our son said

" they really raised the bar this year".

I cant believe that many of the cars are never seen other then this show.

I placed this under the GM section before I saw the Pontiac site. Glad we have our own area here!

I need to replace the gas tank on the Chieftain.

I can find new custom stainless units but don't want to spend that much. I have made several phone calls to people that advertise in Hemmings but no luck.

Anyone have one that is in decent shape, or know of a place to purchase a reproduction unit?

Thanks,
