Alright folks- its the classic situation. I'm in the process of purchasing a beautiful 1972 Lemans Sport from an elderly woman in NJ who has had it in her garage for the past 25 years. The car is showroom-clean and completely original. Very low mileage- 70K. 350, vinyl top, GTO hood and Enduro bumper- not a spot of rust.

I'm having a hard time estimating what the max sale price should be, considering the substantial price differential between LMs and GTOs. Any thoughts on the max?

I just purchased a 1949 Pontiac streamliner fastback 4 dr silver streak super straight eight engine car for possible restoration. Upon buying the car cheap enough AT LEAST AS I THOUGHT, the title reads VIN A8BA284 even I know that seems odd. I checked the engine block and came up with A8RH7411 on the supposed original engine. The seller says he had the VIN tags redone. and pop-rivited them as required. I checked both tags he redid. Same # A8BA284. I DO NOT THINK THIS SOUNDS RIGHT. Am I getting screwed or is this vehicle wothless. Body in ok to slightly less than ok condition but engine does fire over. needs lots of restoring.

I'm debating picking up a 1953 Chieftain for a restoration. It's all intact, original glass, trim, and interior is all there. But it's missing an engine. What can I swap into it with reasonable ease that would work? I was considering a 454 or 455, but I'm open to all ideas. I'm on a budget and would love to get it driving as I work on the paint situation. I found a 455 w/ tranny for $600 locally, in fact they're all in that price range. Are there any swap kits available in terms of motor mounts and such? I've never done an engine swap. The tranny is still in the Chief I think, but hasn't been touched in 20 years. I'd prefer something that doesn't get 6 mpg. The car weighs around 3,400 I believe.

Any help regarding things to look for or engine ideas would be appreciated.

I have a few questions about my Catalina that I brought home yesterday. I am new to a lot of this so please bear with me...

As it stands I bought a 98% complete 1960 Pontiac Catalina 4 door. It had everything minus the 389. I have found a 389 out of a 1964 Catalina. I have been tols it is a direct bolt in from 1959-1964.. Is this true? The car is very solid all the way through except the trunk area. The body mount that mounts to the rear driver side frame ear is almost completely rotted out. My gas tank braces are also all but gone. Obviously the trunk floor is shot also... A new trunk floor isn't hard to come by. I plan on buying a couple 4x4 sheets of 18 gauge and making the replacement myself. One thing I don't think I can fab is the body brace that mounts to the frame ear. Does anybody have any suggestions or better yet have some of these braces that they would love to sell me?? I will end up fabricating everything and patching it together if I have to. I really want to get this bad boy up and running by the end of August at the absolute latest. I also want to get the suspension lowered by about 3 inches as well. I will end up bagging the car either this fall or next after I get the chassis cleaned up and coated. I would like to get her lowered before I get it on the road though. I have lowered newer cars that you can buy new springs and shocks for.. I obviously can't find anything like that for this car. Any and all help would be much appreciated!!
The pictures are of the rust on the body brace I mentioned earlier. The pics are taken from outside of the car looking in.

Hello Everyone,

My name is Ryan and I am the owner of UMI Performance ( www.umiperformance.com ) We are a large manufacture of aftermarket suspension components for both old and new GM vehicles. We are a USA company and all products are designed and manufacture right here in our faciltiy located in Pennsylvania.

We have been getting quite a few request for B-Body products from the 1960's.. mostly the Catalina. Currently we do manufacture products for the 58-70 Chevrolet B-Body which includes the Impala, Bel Air, Caprice and Biscayne. However the Pontiac B-Body is a different chassis.

Currently what I am looking for is some break downs for the years of rear suspension components and when they changed. We are looking to begin with offering rear suspension products at this time. I am looking to know what years used the same chassis and what cars were included using these components... for example what was the Catalina the same as?

Any information anyone can supply would be greatly appreciated. We can return the favor by offering some excellent suspension items for these popular vehicles

Hello every one !

I just enlisted on your forum to ask you some questions about a car I've found in the woods .

By looking on the internet I can tell that it's a Pontiac (Knew that from the grill !!!) maybe a Torpedo 4 doors, and my guess is a 1942.

That's where I'm not sure : Every pictures of '42 I've seen have straight bars on the grill and mine are curved.

I can also tell you that the car is in the Province of Quebec, in Canada. Maybe it's a special Canadian model, I know that happened sometimes from American builders.

I'm posting pictures hoping to have some more info on this thing and if any parts have any value .

Thanks a lot for your help !

Hey everyone...first post here. Through my girlfriend I have inherited a 68 Pontiac Catalina Convertible that was her dad's. Took it out for the first time a few weekends ago...put in a new battery, checked the fluids, started her up and off we went..ran great. We took it out again this weekend and the bugs are starting to show up. I've dealt with old Landcruisers so Im not surprised. I think I have some electrical problems; dome lights that wont go off, when the fan blower motor runs it drains the battery....stuff like that. I am also curious about getting parts....how available?, online sources?....any suggestions on the best places to get started giving the girl some love would be appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Hi

I'm wondering if anyone can explain the difference between a "Star Chief" and a "Strato-Chief?" I used to own a '65 but can't remember if it was a Star Chief or a Stratochief. I think it was a "Stratochief" but not sure. When I do a Goggle search I can't find to much on "Stratochief," but find lots on "Star Chief"

For an old car guy, there's not much more satisfying feeling than to take an old car that was all but forgotten, and bring it back to life. In this case, imagine parking a Carosel red, 4 speed, 45k mile, 69 Judge in a garage in 1975, and never driving it again. A friend of mine was lucky enough to purchace this car last week from the original owner (who happens to be a woman). This time capsule of a car has been kind of a local urban legend for many years. Alot of us knew about it but never knew exactly where it was and when anyone asked her or her family about it, the same answer, it's not for sale. The lady was in my friends restaurant a couple weeks ago and saw all the car pictures on the wall and asked him if any belonged to him. He said most of them (he has over twenty) so she pointed to a picture on the wall of a Carosel red 69 Judge, which he also owns, and asked "what's a Judge like that worth". She proceeded to tell him about the one in her garage and said she was ready to part with it. The car has a few scars from years of storing mowers , lawn furniture, and junk on and around it, all 4 tires were flat, but it is still 99.5% original . She has had some serious health problems over the years and has very little memories of the car so it was pretty much a meaningless posession taking up most of the space in a tiny one car garage. In the past week we dropped the fuel tank to inspect it and to our suprise it still had fuel in it and the inside was unbelievably clean. We pulled the spark plugs and checked the cylinders with a scope and they looked pretty good as well. After rebuilding the carb, replacing the fuel hoses, and replacing the plug wires (it still had the original date coded wires on it) and changing the oil and filter, tonight the old Judge's engine fired up for the first time in nearly 35 years. No knocking or smoking. After adjusting the carb and timing the old engine idled like it was just parked yesterday. We still have some work on the brakes and clutch to do but it was great hearing that thing fire up after all these years. Kinda gives a new meaning to the word "survivor".The car is all original with the exception of the tires and exaust that she hed installed just before parking it for the last time. When I got ready to leave the shop tonight, I patted the fender as I walked by and said welcome back ol buddy. Sorry for the long post, but I wanted to share the story. Doug
