The holiday season is approaching and, commercialisim aside, it is, and should be, a time to reflect and give thanks for what we have, no matter how much, or how little. It is a time to count our blessings and appreciate our families.

I'm not so lucky, with family, as most of you. I left my family in New England. Oh, I love and miss my "kids" (who are now grown up and on their own, more or less) and I am going miss not seeing my grand-kids and great-grandkids over the holiday, but that's the way life is sometimes.

But I have another family to give thanks to - I won't mention names here. If they read this they will know who they are. And that is my Hudson family. We all know deep down this Hudson thing is as much about family as Hudson cars. But what is it that makes it family;

It's the lady that came up to me when I was leaving New England for Memphis after my marriage fell apart and told me "Just remember, Alex - you always have your Hudson family!!";

It's the club members who, even if they haven't met me, trust me with their literature collections so I can scan the material and put it on line;

It's the club member who sent me money, unasked, because he wanted to help with expenses in my projects;

It's the Hudson family who has invited me to Thanksgiving dinner and have become my "adopted" family - an anchor that I probably needed, but didn't realize it;

It's the many friends I have made over the 40+ years I've been an HET member who come up for a howdy and a shake when we cross paths at a national or local meets;

It's the people who trust that I know what I'm talking about when I try to the best of my ability to answer their questions. As I say, I really don't know that much about Hudsons - but I know where to find the material and answer;

It's, with pride in HET, that I sign my emails, and letter, Hudsonly.

It's all the above, and much, much more.

Yes, this is my Hudson family - we are one and united in our love of family and Hudson cars. I know that HET is one of the best car clubs going - it's been that way since Merritt gave us this gift over 50 years ago.

So, as you sit down for Thanksgiving and Christmas dinner this year give Thanks for your family's - both.

Happy Holidays.

My headlights have been blinking intermittently, at about 30-45 second intervals, accompanied by a click under the dash. I can only assume it is the headlight circuit breaker blowing and then resetting.

I'm wondering if I have some sort of a short in the system? I noted that the condition persists whether on high or low beams, so if a short exists, it would have to be between the headlight switch and the floor dimmer switch.

Has anyone had problems with these C.B.'s malfunctioning? Anyone know where I could get a replacement?

UPDATE.... Well, I discovered the problem. As usually, it was a case of "fix-one-thing .. break another"
During my A/C installation, I had apparently crushed the wire going to the little light in the emblem on the front bumper, and it had shorted out.

I rarely drive the car at night, so the problem didn't pop up until last week coming up late. Yes, it WAS the "auxiliary" circuit breaker popping and resetting, not the headlight one.

Unfortunately, I didn't track it down until it had fried that wire, all the way through the (almost new) harness. Now I have to unwrap the entire harness, make sure there is no other damage, replace the offending wire, and rewrap the harness, all while hanging upside down underneath the dash. Was headed up U S 51 in Millington and at one of the intersections is a Kroger gas station - posted price was $2.47, about a dime less than last week. So I thinks to myself I'll stop by on my way home - as I was going thru the intersection by the station I glanced over and watched as the numbers roll over to $2.49!!! Jeeez Louise - now they do it electronically. Guess they do that so then can screw you faster.

I'm looking for a source for the replacement parts - I'd say just about everything has to be replaced as it's never been done and what's there is in pretty poor shape, except for A-frames and spindles/backing plates etc. which I can recondition.

I've looked at Kanter but am leery of using them, as I've had mixed results with their parts. I'm totally unfamiliar with the front end components and could easily try to fit the incorrect part without knowing better. In other words, I need a "Heathkit" approach.

Who besides Kanter would be a good source for the parts, and would know which ones I would need?

I'll be the first to admit, I'm a lazy voter and I'm not proud of it.

However, watching the last decade as both the ruling parties have made a mess of things I am going to make a pledge to myself to get more involved.

I have watched politicians stay in office too long. I have seen too much graft and corruption across all phases of government.

I want people of character, who believe in small government, balanced budgets and fiscal conservancy voted into office regardless of political party affiliation.

The political elite are entrenched and have no fear because they have no term limits. It's time we give them term limits ourselves.

No matter what party you support, or none at all - we have to get out and vote this November. We must show politicians that they can no longer treat us this way, keep racking up debt and that they must answer to us.

Please check out my home page, I put up a link to a good video that should get you thinking at least.

On my last trip to the north Eastern tip of NY State, I picked up three old US Highway signs. US 11, US 9, and the rare US 2. I am in the process of sandblasting and re-painting them. I wonder just how old they are? They are heavy steel and deeply embossed. It appears that the ones used today are made of sheet aluminum and silk screened. Anyone out there in Hudson land know when this type of sign was replaced? I will attempt to post a picture here of the three before any restoration. It's interesting that the US 2 sign had what appeared to be a vinyl number "2" where the others were stamped. Since there is very few miles of US 2 in NY, they must have had a blank sign made and added the number. US 2 starts in Maine, crosses NH and Vermont and ends just across the Champlain bridge in NY. Starts again west of the great lakes and continues to the West coast. The only US highway that has a segment missing.

I also posted a picture of a "SLOW" sign i restoerd that I found up there a couple years ago. That one is very old, but how old?
