This Labor Day take a moment to remember that people fought AND DIED to make sure employers in the US treated people humanely and with some decency. They fought big companies, their thugs, and the government to end things like child labor, sweat shops, company towns that owned the police, company stores, and unreasonable working hours. They fought for minimum wage and safe working conditions. Remember the labor movement.

"Tomorrow is Labor Day. Labor Day in this country has never been a class holiday. It has always been a national holiday. It has never had more significance as a national holiday than it has now. In other countries the relationship of employer and employee has more or less been accepted as a class relationship not readily to be broken through. In this country we insist, as an essential of the American way of life, that the employer-employee relationship should be one between free men and equals. We refuse to regard those who work with hand or brain as different from or inferior to those who live from their property. We insist that labor is entitled to as much respect as property. But our workers with hand and brain deserve more than respect for their labor. They deserve practical protection in the opportunity to use their labor at a return adequate to support them at a decent and constantly rising standard of living, and to accumulate a margin of security against the inevitable vicissitudes of life." -- FDR

He goes back inta the ground agin an stays thar 6 weeks longer, an

That’s a sign we’re gonna have 6 weeks more a’winter weather, but

If he don’t see his shader, he stays out, an that is a sign that winter is over, an Cy says

Well, Ezry, I guess we’re goin t’have 6 weeks more of winter weather,

I just come past Jabez Fisher’s butcher shop, an

We got Jim out, got him some more clothes, an buried his old ones, an

Then we took his up t’th’barn, locked him up an

Give’im his meals at the end of a pole. an Cy Pettingill remarked,

We might not have 6 weeks more of winter weather, but

25 Years ago while I was in the process of moving from Iowa to Pa., I gave John O'Halloren in Chicago a Hornet engine that was dissasembled. It was painted on the inside with Glyptol paint and had a really deep relief between the valves and cylinder bore also it had 1/2" head bolts. I was told it was a 56 Hornet engine and in a conversation with Jack Clifford was told the cam was the same as the Marshall Teaque cam per the cam #. He also said the 56 engine was the same as a 7X. ?????????. Has anyone ever put a 7X on a dyno. to see what it would really put out? !!!Not what you think, but what you know.!!!
For the first time in 14 years I am not getting any traction in finding paid programming work and with MS laying off another 1200 yesterday that just floods the local market with even more competitition.

I am "officially" putting out some "feelers" to see if someone wants to get some custom/resto work done on any of their cars/trucks ??

I've got an open slot waitng in my shop and will entertain any length of project from small to large.

I'm independant and working from home so I'll be able to keep the hourly rate down at a VERY reasonable level!

I'll be looking to do this full time and try and get out of the programming realm for the foreseeable future, especially if I can line up some work!

PM or email me if you're interested...the sooner the better, before the slot in the shop gets filled

The reason I haven't been working on the 50 Super, is since I lost my contract job I really felt I needed to finish up a website that I started working on part time last year.

So, I've been working 15-20 hours a day the last 6 weeks trying to finish the coding work and Just this week I finally launched the new site,

http://www.Pet-Alerts.com

It's a simple site that lets you schedule and receive Emails or Text Messages (SMS) about things related to your pets, like appointments, medications etc.

I got the idea last year when Rambo was diagnosed with Mast Cell tumors and had surgery and 6 months of chemo therapy. The chemo was a 3 drug cocktail that had varying doses and tapered down over the 6 months of treatments - I thought, wouldn't it be nice to schedule alerts to remind you of when and what medications to give? How about an automated alert when your pet needs shots?

So, I hope Pet-Alerts.Com will help others in the future with similar situations and to just make things a little easier in the care of our pets.

It's a completely FREE service as I intend to (hopefully) make money on the advertising.

If you get some time please visit the site, join - if you like or think you can use the service; And please take a little time to click on my the sponsors and ad links which will help me support the site!

Thanks All!

It feels good to get back to working on cars!

stimulus and money facts?....

so im making this a new post not to take over the previous post hoping this can inspire us instead of divide us forget politics lets talk money for a few minutes since politics is what they want us to talk about I figure we could talk about what nobody wants us to discuss

ok so I want to say this I think you all have it wrong I think they are playing you and you lost.

also if you did some research on our money system you would realize this.

the thing you all think would fix it may be why it is broken to begin with if you do not understand the system how can you fix it have you all took time to understand money or just think you know what it is?

now the reason im saying this is you complain about stimulus and do you ask questions or just hear the word money and decide to take a side?

now I want to explain what im talking about since you all will be wondering and wishing I would get to the point.

now you all seem very smart so first let me ask this who makes our money and what is our money system?

now let me tell you what I am saying is not from skeptics but is from people within the system and even our own president so I expect some questions but if you think im going off of bs you need to go read about it then maybe you will have some room to talk

I hope to change some opinions or atleast plant a seed for thaught

first I will say our own president said this below

I am a most unhappy man. I have unwittingly ruined my country. A great industrial nation is controlled by its system of credit. Our system of credit is concentrated. The growth of the nation, therefore, and all our activities are in the hands of a few men. We have come to be one of the worst ruled, one of the most completely controlled and dominated Governments in the civilized world -- no longer a Government by free opinion, no longer a Government by conviction and the vote of the majority, but a Government by the opinion and duress of a small group of dominant men.

now let me tell you this our money system makes us slaves.

if you do not believe this you are one of many most people do not understand money.

first before I continue I could care less about political parties they both are not a cure

now let me say this there are differences between the stimulus packages and the first one was given by president bush this package went to back the banks which is not good at all...

the second went to often what people call pork which is basically to fund projects that will put people to work so lets not argue about the projects lets just say this they will put people to work.

now I will continue to explain the money system hopefully you all are very smart wont take anyone's word for it and go research it yourself and come back and comment

so first im not gonna use crazy terms nobody will understand so here goes

our money system explained first off we all probably know there is not enough money created to cover all of what we have earned in fact there is maybe 5% is actually made into bill form they never expect more then that to be created since we do not normally need it this last economic crisis most likely was a shortage of dollar bills now I asked earlier how money was made people all thought federal reserve well they make our printed money most money is not in printed form you ask then who makes it well the banks make 95% of our money they make it on our signature and then they loan it at interest to us depending on your credit now below is an example

im the bank I start with $1000 and I can loan 10 to 1

so if you would like a loan I can loan you 10k this is where it gets real bad now as soon as i loan you 10k I can sell the debt or keep it depending on my needs if I sell it I get 10k back they get the interest

now im the bank I started with 1k you signed for 10k and I sold it so now I have that 10k back

now would you like another loan remember I loan 10 to 1 so you can now get 100k loan if you would like

remember I might sell it then loan you 10 times that

so basically I have made money instantly can never lose because i didn't risk anything and this is what a bank does every day all day long and then charges you interest upon nothing and they invest in hard assets mainly property because everything else takes property to store so in other words they ripped everyones house off from them and will re loan it to there children it was done purposefully and will keep happening until we change the system

as the bankers said

"Permit me to issue and control the money of a nation, and I care not who makes its laws." -

now we can all fight about who should be president or do something about our slavery

btw the only way to change this is to have a gov. pay us to build our country this could be called a stimulus i guess and go back to the by the people and for the people and re instate the constitution and get rid of corporate law and greed we ran from this to start this great country but we have not battled them from within we need our Sovereignty back

we do have the right to live and be happy and have our own land fight for it...

now last but not least learn the system and tell other please

if you look on google videos for a movie called (money as debt)

it explains this in simple terms but please still research it since you never want to take anyone's word for things that are so important

I hope this made some sense and can not wait to see what you all have to say about it

Subject: Response from Congressman Norm Dicks

Dear Mr. Thompson:

Thank you for contacting me to express your concerns about the current state of America's healthcare system and the efforts by Congress and the Obama Administration to implement reforms to improve quality, expand coverage, and contain the costs of health insurance.

Obviously the rising cost of health insurance has put an enormous strain on American families and businesses, with premiums rising much faster than wages in recent years. In addition, there are more than 46 million Americans who have no health insurance coverage at all, and another 14,000 who are losing coverage every day during the current economic crisis. The other discouraging aspect of this growing problem is the enormous amount of money that is spent on health care in our country - almost twice as much per capita than any other industrialized nation. For all of these reasons, we in Congress have an obligation and an incentive to seek ways to reduce costs, eliminate wasteful spending, encourage preventative care and broaden access to health care in the United States.

With the new Obama Administration identifying the goal of health insurance reform as its highest priority in this session of Congress, the relevant committees of the House and Senate have worked this year to adopt reform proposals that preserve the positive aspects of our current system while addressing the many glaring deficiencies. The President himself has stressed as a fundamental principle the adage that we should "first do no harm" in our efforts to adopt meaningful and significant reforms to our current system. The task has not been an easy one, and the debate this Spring and Summer has been contentious. Nevertheless it is a terribly important debate, and I believe it is critical to allow all sides to be heard. The initial deadlines that were established for developing a reform bill in the House and Senate have passed and it is now clear that the process of developing this legislative package of reforms will extend into the Fall. This delay is not unusual: if health insurance reform were easy to implement we would have accomplished it long ago. And I believe it is more important that we get it right, however long it takes to achieve. This year we have a confluence of circumstances that gives us the opportunity for action: there is a determined Congress and an Administration that has a clear interest in bringing the disparate interests together to achieve meaningful reform.

Thus far legislative proposals have been developed by key House and Senate Committees yet no complete version has been presented to the full membership of either house for a vote. I had hoped to be able to meet with constituents at home during the month August to explain the House version of a reform bill and to seek input from 6th District constituents, but the reform package has yet to be completed. In lieu of a specific legislative proposal, I wanted to take this opportunity to re-state my priorities in this important legislative effort.

First, as I stated previously, I believe it is important to preserve what people like about the current insurance system that provides health care benefits to a broad cross-section of Americans: specifically the ability to keep their health plans and their doctors if they choose to do so.

Second, I have been a proponent of health reform that has some type of public option as a way to offer a more comprehensive and competitive plan in the health care marketplace.

Third, I believe we need to resolve the inequities that exist in the current system, including the glaring geographic variation in Medicare reimbursement rates that have disproportionately hurt Washington and a few other states while they have unfairly benefitted a few key larger states. In late July, I worked with a small group of Members of Congress from affected states to develop language that we believe will be included in the final version of the reform bill in the House, stipulating a process for making these reimbursement rates more equitable.

In addition, I cannot imagine that the House would adopt a plan that fails to provide for coverage of the millions of currently uninsured people in this country - including kids-who represent a huge cost to society when they show up in hospital emergency rooms for urgent care that is ultimately much more costly.

At the same time I fully expect that the legislation we ultimately adopt would achieve substantial savings by reducing duplication of efforts, eliminating wasteful expenditures and simplifying paperwork burdens to achieve savings that can be re-directed to productive uses.

As I said before, this is a serious debate that we are having in our country this year, and it's important that we adopt the right solutions, however long it may take. I look forward in the weeks and months ahead to updating you on the progress or this effort in the House, and I want you to know that I appreciate the helpful comments and suggestions that you and so many others from the 6th District have relayed to me.

OK, it is not a secret that I do not like parages. I have a series of reasons why I try to stay away from them; however, this past summer has been a tough one for me. I have two new Hudson projects in the shop, but do not have a Hudson to drive. I have another antique car that I can drive. A very nice big fender job that is a great car, but it is not a Hudson. So when a friend asked for some help, I agreed to come along for the parade. It was a party for a friend that is fighting one of those illness that we all cringe when we hear about them. I often wonder how old can be so unkind? So a party for our friend, a supprise ride in a parage for our friend and I got to drive a very nice 49 Hudson Broughm. Driving to our parade position was a bit of an annoyance but we made it. The parade starts at the top of Main Street in Park City--yes, that would be The Ski Captiol of the world in none other than Utah. From the top of main street to the end of the parade route was about two miles--all down hill. A parade that is perfect for the cars... I am not sold on parades; but, if you are invited to do the Park City Miners Day Parade come along for the fun. There were ten Hudsons in attendance all being lead by the 1946 Hudson Golden Convertible. :D

Actual propaganda footage, from the time. It shows Spain's General Franco riding in a 1939 Hudson convertible through the streets, waving at crowds. Wish I had some way to post it.
Only a couple views, for about 30-45 seconds. Seen straight-on from the front - can't miss that front profile and side-grilles...
Only 30 minutes long. It will be shown again on 11/24 (tomorrow) at 5:30 PM ET/PT "Vanishings" 'Movie Star or Spy?'.

The oil companys claim ZDDP makes up for not haveing Zinc , that it will completely protect the old flat tappet engines , { have to keep in mind here that they want to sell their oil and what they say is what's best for them } which actually are not that old , we didn't get into roller cams for about all cars untill the last few years .
Nothing like having a shop on a rainy day in the PNW - I was able to get the basics installed for the electric trailer brakes today,

The yo-yo's who installed the last electric brake controller mounted it to the lower part of the dash where is caused a crack or 2. Guess thats what happens when you hang a couple of pounds of electronics on some 1/6" plastic

It was pretty simple to come up with a Road Warrior inspired mounting system for the controller that not only puts the controller in better view, operating conditions but is completely hard mounted to the underlying steel dash supports and free floating from the dash - no stress, no cracks, what a concept!

The "rollcage" acts as a bracket for the mount of the controller in the right spot, and protects the unit from hazards while maintaining visibility and operation of controls.

Then I made a Custom stainless mount for the trailer plug because the parts store wanted $3.50 for a crummy 20 gauge painted POS and I'm sorry, that's the price of a latter or a gallon of diesel  beside mine won't rust!

From Hemmings:

Christmas Punch

Punch, a now-defunct English magazine of satire and humor, published the following review of upcoming legislation in Vol. CXXIV. January-June, 1903. An opinion whose time has come? You be the judge…

“Some statements as to the views of automobilists on motor-car legislation have recently appeared, and it is said that a Bill embodying these opinions will shortly be introduced into Parliament. There is reason to believe that the following regulations would much more accurately represent the views of the majority of automobilists:

“No person shall ride, drive, or in any other manner proceed along any public road, street, or thoroughfare whatever, except in a motor-car. Any person disobeying this regulation will be smashed, together with his vehicle, animal, or other means of conveyance. Private roads may still be used for these purposes, provided that the rights of automobilists are in no way interfered with thereby.

“No person shall walk, run, sit, lie, or in any other manner be in or on any public road, street, or thoroughfare whatever, or at the edge thereof. Any person disobeying this regulation will be cut to pieces. Field paths and footways, other than those adjoining a road, may still be used, with due regard to the rights of automobilists wherever such paths may approach a roadway.

“Any police constable or other person, official or otherwise, endeavouring to check the progress of a motor-car, or to ascertain the names or addresses of the occupants, shall be cut to pieces, shall be dismissed from his official position, if any, and shall be fined not less than ten pounds.

“Any person who, from the shelter of a house or other substantial building, shall speak or shout derisively or abusively to any automobilist, shall be liable to imprisonment for six months with hard labour.

“All country roads shall be constantly watered by motor water-carts at the expense of the ratepayers. Similarly, all obstructions to rapid progress or turning of corners, such as trees, lampposts, pillar letter-boxes, milestones, houses, churches, farm buildings, rocks, cliffs, hills or haystacks, shall be removed at the expense of the ratepayers, or by a grant of money to be voted by Parliament if the ratepayers should become absolutely impecunious. In return for the trifling benefit of these regulations, automobilists would be willing to make the following very important concessions:

“Any driver of a motor-car proceeding along a public thoroughfare at a greater speed than one hundred miles an hour, and thereby constituting himself a danger to other automobilists, shall, on conviction, be severely censured by the magistrates, and on a repetition of the offence, if arrested and also convicted, shall be fined a sum not exceeding half-a-crown.

“No automobilist shall willfully proceed along any public thoroughfare in such a manner as to cause danger or inconvenience to himself or the other occupants of his car, provided always that this regulation shall put no limit to speed other than that in the last paragraph.”
