I'm not into recommending one brand over another, but I can't remember when I've seen adequate-ZDDP oil on sale for such a low price.

Most O'Reilly stores have it in straight 30, 40, and 50 weights and 10W30 and 20W-50 viscosities, so you've got a good choice based on your climate and preferences. I just got back from our local O'Reilly's with two 12-quart cases of 10W-30 for my Studebakers and other collector cars, as there is a limit of 24 quarts per customer.

'Don't know when we'll again see a price this low for the oil our flat-tappet engines need without having to add a ZDDP supplement, so stock up if you can afford it!
So the big ol bench grinder I inherited from my Dad finally gave up the ghost. Its a US made Black and Decker Pro series. Its from the 70's. So me thinks I can just jump in the car head to the local tool house and get me a nice US or Canadian made replacement. Well what a bunch of horsecrap it is looking for tools nowadays. I got a strict policy of only buying US or Canadian made tools. It means I pay more but I get more plus I keep us employed. I go through the whole store and everything in it is Chinese made crap. I luck out and talk to the old dude at the counter who sends me off to a speciality tool store where lo and behold I was able to buy a 8 inch bench grinder that was made in Canada. Now here is the kicker it cost three times what the top model at the tool store was selling.

So you might think is this guy a moron buying this thing?? Well I almost herniated myself getting it into the car. Damn thing was so heavy. It has a heavy duty motor and everything is just so well made. I get it home and bolt it up to my grinder stand. Turn it on and the darn thing is near silent until you start grinding. Has power to spare and damn there is something satisfying about using a well made tool. I was lucky my Dad was a mechanic and I inherited all the tools from his restoration shop. Everything is Snap-On, Mac or Craftsman. These are quality tools. I have added tools as I go and I always add US and Canadian made tools. Proud to say my tools are ALL North American, except for my Dad's British made motorcycle tools and my german wood working tools(all passed down).

Needless to say folks it hard to buy tools made over here unless you are willing to pay the price. I am lucky in I am stubborn enough and have enough money to buy them. My view is if I cannot buy North American I look on eBay for old tools. I will not buy these cheap tools and I know a lot of guys are in no position to be choosey and think I will buy this cheap stuff to do the job.

This is just a general lament for what we have lost over the years with offshoring manufacturing. Talking to the speciality tool store guy he said he only stocks 2 North American grinders there are no others.

So one thing I would like is if you have experience with tools made in US or Canada maybe you can list here for others like me to find them.

Here are some I know
Hand Tools -- Snap-on, Mac
Grinders -- Balder, General

I have what I believe to be an old hood ornament and have not found anything like it during my 3 weeks of internet searching. It is a chrome bust of Mercury wearing a bronze helmet. The helmet has straight back wings. The item is approximately 5 inches long, 2 inches wide and 4 inches tall. The only lettering I can find is FMC A. It has a valley on the bottom as if it were to conform to a chrome strip down the center of a hood. The valley has an oblong hole on the front of the valley and a large screw at the back of the valley. I have searched Ford, ornament, mascot, vintage, rare, antigue, cars, trucks, motorcycles, boats and even planes. I have also done an image search. Any one have any other ideas?

Thanks - Daryl

Hopefully we can keep this discussion about packing firearms in our hot-rods and not devolve into politics... :D

First off, I'm no noob to firearms..have had them all my life and taken several safety courses.

God love the hard working men and women of law enforcement..but they can rarely respond in time, or are in the right place to prevent a violent crime.

Even with my proven 100% reliable REWS Alarm System (the Rambo Early Warning System) Given my age (and Rambos), usually being alone and with Bad Guys seemlingly aplenty (freaking idiot shoplifter was shooting up the goodwill in Port Orchard just last week!) I had finally decided to get my Conceal Carry License earlier this year and arm myself.

Since there are places you cannot conceal/open carry..I need a safe compartment for the Hudson where I can store a weapon and spare ammo/mags.

I'm working hard out in my shop and hopefully just a few more weeks away from moving the 49 back into the shop..
So, I want to start planning on doing the additional fabrication for a firearms containment system of some type.

Just wondering if anyone has seen any 3rd party automotive vaults, safes or other types of containment systems for a firearm(s) or is currently using one in their vehicle and can give me some feedback on likes/dislikes.
