Hi Guys,

My name is Rich. I'm a car guy from New York, currently living in Switzerland. I've been looking to buy a Hudson for the fast several months and just came across this forum today. I thought I would post here and ask for your help and advice due to the wealth of experience, knowledge and passion you guys have for Hudsons.

Ideally I would like to buy a 1951-53 Hornet Club Coupe with Twin H Power and a Hydramatic. I am open to alternatives and would even consider a Hornet sedan, which is more spacious and would help me to better sell the idea of it being a family car to my wife.

My current daily driver is a 1958 356 Speedster which "safely" fits two up front, and I can still squeeze two more in the back. I feel the Hornet would be a great way to drive American over here in Europe, and would certainly be more safe than the Speedster. Originally I purchased a 57 Chevy 210 Townsman for the family, but then came to my senses and decided the Hornet's racing history and sleek lines would make a much cooler family car. I have now decided to pursue the Step Down dream instead. If anyone could help me find the next member of my family, or just point me in the right direction, I'd be mighty grateful.

Thanks for taking the time to read my long first post.

Rich

Folks,

I've cleaned out an old storage garage I had and I have quite a pile of parts that I just don't have any room to store.

Mostly 46/47 Hudson, some 37 Terraplane and probably a few Jet parts as well. Some sheet metal, trim, HDM/VC parts, engine components, brake parts, water pumps, hubs, steering columns, driveshaft's, transmissions, hubcaps, manifolds, carbs, etc + 3 46/47 front fenders, one has trim. Nothing really great but I'm sure these are usable parts to someone out there in Hudson-land none the less.

So here's the deal; This lot of parts is FREE but you must take them all. No cherry picking. If no interest within a month or so, they go to the dump/scrap yard.

Located north of Winchester, VA about 35 minutes from Front Royal

I can be reached at Five Four Oh - 450- Six Eight Five Six or via email at todd(at)minieball69.com

todd h

Every time the engine stops it is is exacly in the same position. That's because of the engine stops against the compression. So also the bendix of the starter engine comes into the starter ring gear on the same spot.
You can see very easy that the teeth of the starter ring gear has a lot of marks there and sometimes halve the teeths have gone. It is very simple to knock off the starter ring gear. Take an old chissal make the point with a grinder flat.
Put the flywheel with the backside on a couple of steel blocks about 1" thick and go round knocking on the starter
ring gear with the chissal and a big hammer. The gear will come off very easy.
Now it must be replaced about 30 degrees, so the bendix come in on another place.
The best to do that is in the electric furnace in the kitchen. Heat it up to 260 degrees Centigrade. With two plyers you can take the gear and lay it on the flywheel on correct place. It is better to do this when your wife is not at home, because the smell of the old oil that burns of the ring gear is very bad.
Your old flywheel is as new now and can stand for another 50 years.

A few years ago, we purchased a tote bag at a National Meet with an embroidered Hudson on it. Does anyone remember who made them? Or where I can get a Hudson machine embroidery design? I have attached a picture of the bag we have.
Thank you,
John & Laurie

My first post here. I have just started into the restoration of my 1946 Hudson pickup. I joined HET this month. My truck is complete and original but in need of a complete restoration. I plan to do a frame-off restoration to original condition.

I will have many questions but for tonight, just four:

(1) Sometime in the last 3-4 years there was a car magazine that had a good article on Hudson pickups. I managed to lose the magazine and I can not even remember what magazine it was. I do have the Nov, 2011 Hemmings Classic Car Magazine article, so that's not the one I am looking for. Anyone know of any other articles on Hudson pickups in the last few years?

(2) I have an old Hudson pamphlet that lists an overdrive option for '46-47 pickups. My truck does not have overdrive. If I could get an original Hudson pickup overdrive transmission that is the one thing that I would add to this truck that was not on it when new. Are they easy to find, and what modifications would be necessary to put it in my truck? I assume that shortening the drive line would be one.

(3) I have read that the wood in the bed was painted black. Was the wood ash or oak?

(4) Good sources for replica parts? I know about KGAP but every time I log onto their web site their on-line store is deactivated. Any other companies with a good selection of parts for these trucks?

Thanks!
