I have a different problem than my Bendix sticking. The first time I cranked the car after installing an adapter plate to put an 350 transmission on my old flathead six engine, the car turned over perfectly and actually cranked. However, when I gave it some gas, the bendix was apparently still stuck in the flywheel and made a popping, then a scraping sound. Now the bendix will not engage the flywheel, but appears to be shaving the tips of the gears on the bendix off. Are there adjustments that I can make using shims that can correct it without taking the motor and/or transmission back out? Any suggestions will be highly appreciated.
I have taken the cover from the lower shaft & exposed & removed the pin holding the shaft into the mechanism but the barrel will still not come out. I presume that there in another pin holding the barrel into the upper part of the "T" handle that is hidden behind the cover on the stem of the "T".
I went to Cliffords this past thursday evening and picked up a couple of intakes. This style is different than the old style intake I already have on my '40 2dr sedan. It has the water line for heating the manifold built right in to it. This is a real nice setup.... However, if you were planning on getting one, and using it with a factory exhaust manifold, it won't work. The water line is under the manifold. The old style will work with the cast iron exhaust, but the new one won't.
