The first official event of the 50th annual Doc's Apple Blossom Meet (which has been designated this year's Eastern Regional Meet) took place this afternoon under partly cloudy skies with temperatures in the low seventies. We met at a shopping center just outside Winchester, Virginia, and convoyed to a large private collection of autos and automobilia. I think about 15 Hudsons were involved in the caravan. We then convoyed over 26 miles of scenic roads to the Museum of the Shenandoah, a regional museum complex outside Winchester that includes an old mansion and 6 acres of gardens, as well as a large, modern museum building with extensive exhibits on life in the Shenandoah Valley. We had a luncheon in a banquet room there, then toured the museum and grounds. Although the skies were cloudy, I drove with the top down all afternoon and didn't get wet!

Tomorrow, meet attendees will take self-guided tours around town, or to various vineyards in the country surrounding Front Royal, Va. We're expecting temperatures to hit 81 degrees. There may be a thunderstorm or two, here or there. In the evening we'll have the traditional pot luck dinner.

There's more on Saturday and Sunday! If you happen to live anywhere within driving distance of Front Royal, do come out and join us sometime this weekend! There's a flyer online at http://cbc.hetclub.org/images/CBC_Events/2013DocsMeetflyer.pdf

The headlinner is installed but need to finish arounf windshield and install ss bows and alluminum 2 inch strips that go around above doors. I had to pick up the last little bit of pieces from our nephew to take to another upolstery shop because he was just to busy to finish the job. All the lower ss strips and interior 7/8 wide strips that cover the seams on interoir door and quarter panels are fixed and are at a pollishing place . The bumpers are all chromed and ready to install. Our friend of 40+ years is doing this for us. When I have the car ready for inspection he is also buying me 4 www tires.
Hi All,
So it's time for me to try and start the Hudson for the "first time" (meaning, first time since I've purchased it). Had the gas tank removed, boiled, sealed, I reinstalled it. Oil is fresh, plugs are fresh, etc etc etc. I know the car was driving within the last 2 years before i bought it, so it's not one of those "sitting for 10 years" situations.
I have Drive Master, and I'm not sure if it's hooked up or not, but it SEEEMS like it is from everything i can tell. The car is still also a 6v system. I know there's some charge to it because i can get the headlights and tail lights and brake lights to work (though no other lights or accessories seem to come on, I'm guessing/hoping blown fuses).
From what I've read, with a 6v system (of which I've never had any experience with) when you connect the battery you need to wait a few hours before trying to start up the car. I also sprayed some carb cleaner over the carb (not in it). How do you guys suggest I go about firing this baby up for the "first time"? Anything particular I should do or not do?

Hi All,

Getting ready to start the next (and probably biggest) phase of the work on my 46 Hudson: the interior. The car's interior was completely gutted by the previous owner. I still have all of the pieces (front seat is installed and in nice shape) have all the door panels, rear seat, etc. My car had the factory leather (which I am not going to duplicate because it's just too expensive). What I'd like to get from you all is your opinion on which way to go with the interior:
I could do it "very similar" to the original....same color scheme, as close to possible as the same patterns, and materials would now be either simulated leather and cloth, or cloth and a decent vinyl.
Or I could just do it my own way, probably using a different color scheme, not really following the material patterns too closely, and again using either simulated leather & cloth or good vinyl and cloth.

The reason I hesitate on which way to go is that I don't want to turn off Hudon buffs when I eventually decide to sell, but at the same time I don't want to spend a year's worth of college tuition on this interior trying to make it as original as possible if it's not going to make much difference in the overall appeal.

Thoughts/opinions/criticisms welcomed

Just finished scanning a 1950 Hudson parts book - will let everybody know when it is uploaded to the on-line library along with several other pieces.

Now that I'm caught up I am looking for more material to scan. Again, I can scan most anything as long as it isnt' two thick - generally anything under 50 or 60 pages can be scanned flat. Anything over that needs to be taken apart. I usually return disassembled manuals in a 3-ring binder. I just love single page material, like bulletins.

So, any contributions will be welcome. I will treat all of it as I would if it were my own and return as promptly as I can. One note - older manuals that can be laid flat have a tendency to shed the middle pages as the staples aren't quite long enough. We try our best but it does happen.

Thanks to those who have contributed lately - Roger Tallent, Paul Schuster, Ric Pinder and the SoCal chapter who loaned material from the Crasweiller Estate thru Jon Cronk.

Hudsonly,
Alex Burr
Memphis, TN

He is also selling his brother's '32 sedan which he says is a very nice car. Here is the link for the ad. I have no connection to any of this, i just saw the ad and thought hudson types would be less likely to cut an 80 year old hudson than others might. Regards, Tom

http://goldcountry.craigslist.org/pts/3720477279.html

Hello everyone,

Just want to say thank you for all the advice you have provided. And thanks in advance for the advice you don’t yet know will be providing :D

I am a home-mechanic-wanna-be that just loves the old cars, especially Hudsons. My wife and I got married in our ’46 (my profile picture) and our most recent acquisition is a ’52 that needs complete restoration. This forum has given me the confidence of taking the restoration project solo. Although good friends have been over to help me quite a bit and I’m sure I’ll get more help as I go.

So far the ’46 has been so reliable it could be a daily driver. That of course with advice from this forum.

The ’52 needs complete restoration but so far I started the engine after being parked for 45 years and I also installed a new brake system (master and wheel cylinders, lines, and shoes). I have done a lot of other work but mostly the disassembly required for a proper restoration.

I still need to remove rust and repair rust damage, some mechanical issues need to be addressed, then on to body work and paint, new electrical wiring, upholstery, and plating. It’s a big project when you have a day job but little by little it will get done. My wife also loves the cars and that buys me extra time to spend in the garage.

The '52 was very complete when I got it but here is a current photo, enjoy.

Thanks again,
Jairo.

i have this 30 hudson front end i bought last year and will be starting on my 27 essex soon and want to use it. can anyone tell me how remove kingpins out of the axle. i see a location where a key may be but i don't know if it is just driven out or what? i already have the bracket to tie rod removed.
i just can't stand the thought of using a ford axle like so many do. i know this hudson axle springs are a little wider than the essex was but i still may try to use it if i can find a spindle/ kingpin/ drum combo that will work.

We've posted an "update sheet" with the latest information about the Eastern Regional to be held in Front Royal, Virginia in May. To see it, click on this link: http://www.cbc.hetclub.org/images/CBC_Events/2013Doc_Updates.pdf . There is also a brief history of "Doc's Meet" (this year's is the 50th edition) and the page has links to both the meet flyer, and to the flyer for the AACA show in nearby Winchester, Virginia.

I have also updated the flyer in terms of the motels (we took a couple off the flyer, and added four bed-and-breakfasts).
