Several covert., Hollywoods, and coupes but several sedans and trucks as well. This is quite impressive but also may mark a beginning of an increase in pricing for our mark?

It also brings to mind an issue that I keep thinking about. Of the AMC partners, why hasn't the Nash mark made a similar impact and interest. I rarely ever see Nash anything but Metropolitans most of the time, even the early 50s Ramblers rarely make an appearance.

Anyway I was very impressed to see the quality of Hudsons offered.

Pontiac Hydramatic in a Hudson?

I pulled a Hydramatic out of a 53 Hornet Sedan donor car. The car has 80k on the odometer. The green tag on the Hydramatic does not mention Hudson as does my other Hydramatic, and is marked P54, which suggests to me it was manufactured in 1954 for another GM co, maybe Pontiac? But the tranny was painted a gold that matched the stock numbers-matching block. So, is it possible, with all the problems in 53 with hydramatic production, that this was the original tranny, or did this Hudson owner manage to blow his tranny along the way and replace it with a 54 model, but took the time to paint it gold? I included the VIN tag in case anyone would like to estimate the manufacturing month. Any sleuths out there?

Since I am parting out my 54 Hornet I might as well use the 54 front brakes and backing plate for my 47 PU.

Second question. For example: if it is the inner bearing that must be changed, will the inner bearing and race from the 47 PU fit in the 54 hub? Same example if it is the outer bearing that needs changing. The reason for asking is the PU has new bearings and I would switch into 54 hub if I know they will fit.

If not what bearing and seal P/Ns will be needed?
Thanks for answer.
Lee O'Dell

The first official event of the 50th annual Doc's Apple Blossom Meet (which has been designated this year's Eastern Regional Meet) took place this afternoon under partly cloudy skies with temperatures in the low seventies. We met at a shopping center just outside Winchester, Virginia, and convoyed to a large private collection of autos and automobilia. I think about 15 Hudsons were involved in the caravan. We then convoyed over 26 miles of scenic roads to the Museum of the Shenandoah, a regional museum complex outside Winchester that includes an old mansion and 6 acres of gardens, as well as a large, modern museum building with extensive exhibits on life in the Shenandoah Valley. We had a luncheon in a banquet room there, then toured the museum and grounds. Although the skies were cloudy, I drove with the top down all afternoon and didn't get wet!

Tomorrow, meet attendees will take self-guided tours around town, or to various vineyards in the country surrounding Front Royal, Va. We're expecting temperatures to hit 81 degrees. There may be a thunderstorm or two, here or there. In the evening we'll have the traditional pot luck dinner.

There's more on Saturday and Sunday! If you happen to live anywhere within driving distance of Front Royal, do come out and join us sometime this weekend!
Hi All,
So it's time for me to try and start the Hudson for the "first time" (meaning, first time since I've purchased it). Had the gas tank removed, boiled, sealed, I reinstalled it. Oil is fresh, plugs are fresh, etc etc etc. I know the car was driving within the last 2 years before i bought it, so it's not one of those "sitting for 10 years" situations.
I have Drive Master, and I'm not sure if it's hooked up or not, but it SEEEMS like it is from everything i can tell. The car is still also a 6v system. I know there's some charge to it because i can get the headlights and tail lights and brake lights to work (though no other lights or accessories seem to come on, I'm guessing/hoping blown fuses).
From what I've read, with a 6v system (of which I've never had any experience with) when you connect the battery you need to wait a few hours before trying to start up the car. I also sprayed some carb cleaner over the carb (not in it). How do you guys suggest I go about firing this baby up for the "first time"? Anything particular I should do or not do?

Hi All,

Getting ready to start the next (and probably biggest) phase of the work on my 46 Hudson: the interior. The car's interior was completely gutted by the previous owner. I still have all of the pieces (front seat is installed and in nice shape) have all the door panels, rear seat, etc. My car had the factory leather (which I am not going to duplicate because it's just too expensive). What I'd like to get from you all is your opinion on which way to go with the interior:
I could do it "very similar" to the original....same color scheme, as close to possible as the same patterns, and materials would now be either simulated leather and cloth, or cloth and a decent vinyl.
Or I could just do it my own way, probably using a different color scheme, not really following the material patterns too closely, and again using either simulated leather & cloth or good vinyl and cloth.

The reason I hesitate on which way to go is that I don't want to turn off Hudon buffs when I eventually decide to sell, but at the same time I don't want to spend a year's worth of college tuition on this interior trying to make it as original as possible if it's not going to make much difference in the overall appeal.

Thoughts/opinions/criticisms welcomed

Just finished scanning a 1950 Hudson parts book - will let everybody know when it is uploaded to the on-line library along with several other pieces.

Now that I'm caught up I am looking for more material to scan. Again, I can scan most anything as long as it isnt' two thick - generally anything under 50 or 60 pages can be scanned flat. Anything over that needs to be taken apart. I usually return disassembled manuals in a 3-ring binder. I just love single page material, like bulletins.

So, any contributions will be welcome. I will treat all of it as I would if it were my own and return as promptly as I can. One note - older manuals that can be laid flat have a tendency to shed the middle pages as the staples aren't quite long enough. We try our best but it does happen.

Thanks to those who have contributed lately - Roger Tallent, Paul Schuster, Ric Pinder and the SoCal chapter who loaned material from the Crasweiller Estate thru Jon Cronk.

Hudsonly,
Alex Burr
Memphis, TN
