Hello All,

I am a new member and am jumping into a restoration of a 1953 Hudson Hornet coupe. I've got the motor and trans our and am trying to separate the transmission form the engine- but it wont come loose. I am afraid to force it. I have removed the top two bolts and lovers plus the moisture drain and exhaust bracket. IT separates about 1/4 inch or so but thats it.

The motor was ( and still is) frozen so I am trying to get the trans out to clean up and rebuild the 308- any tips for me on what I am doing wrong? Any tricks to pulling a hydramatic with OD from a 308? any advice is very welcome!

These are images of cars that I cannot identify. They're scans from negatives (where the envelopes are unlabeled) and so I have very little contextual information I can give that might help.

This first photo was taken in France. I think just post-WW2 France, but cannot say that with any certainty - it is possibly pre-War but not by more than a few years. Cars, of course, can last a long time if well-kept, so that is of very limited help.

This photo was definitely taken in England, but beyond that I have no idea on when. I don't recognize this car (otherwise I wouldn't be posting here).

In OCW recieved today a nearly 1/2 p. photo of subject car sitting in a mowed field of grass with the following info: "The 1937 Hudson Deluxe Eight Victoria coupe was spotted by OCW reader Earl Welch not far from his home in Merced, Calif. The car was one of several cars for sale along Highway 140. The coupe definitely needs some TLC, but it appears mostly complete".
The photo shows both headlamps & lenses complete & unbroken, stainless grille complete & intact, and the bumper complete with guards. The windshields are not broken out nor does it appear the roof has damage. The fenders have the medallions on the front of them so it would appear to be a very intact unmolested Hudson + being quite rare & collectible. If a true Victoria coupe it would have a small seat facing sideways behind the front seat so an unusual & rare model PLUS it's a Hudson 8!
It doesn't mention whether it has Elec. Hand, radio, or heater.
Anyone living up in that area of Central Calif. ought to check it out or call information in Merced for Mr. Welch as to exact location, price, etc.
Ten years ago I'd have been on my way up there already & not posted this in here!

After months of tracking down parts I'm almost ready to reassemble and find that the clearance between the valve stem and valve guide is almost .007. Taking into consideration the heat, at best clearance would be .006. The shop manual says .002 and from what people have said up to .006. Do I knurl the valve guides? Bore .030 the guides and put bronze inserts (+6 hours)? Or put it back together and drive it? After putting all this work into this engine, New rings, pistons, valve guides, valves, lifters, milling the head, porting the exhaust and intake I just want to get the engine back in. The parts were from Dale so I would think that everything should be a good fit. The play isn't as bad as it was from the old valve guides. The problem is the more people I talk to the more confused I get:huh:

Hi All,

I work for a production company in LA and we're developing a TV series about classic cars. We're casting two hosts for the series. Hosts could be any age -- they just have to have big personalities, know a lot about cars and have some experience restoring them.

Shoot me a message with some background information, a picture and a link to any of your websites so I can read more about you. I can tell you a lot more about the series when we speak.

Look forward to hearing from you!

Best,

Hi all,
A mate and myself are embarking on a project that is possibly beyond either of us, but together we hope to achieve, which is restoring/rebuilding/repairing (any other "re's" that may be necessary) a Hudson Terraplane 6.
First off, endless research has failed at working out what year the car actually is.
We believe it is a 37, but have been told everything from 34 thru to 39.
Short of pictures (always forget the camera), all I can tell you at the moment is it's a 4 door, rear suicide, right hand drive 6 cylinder.
The engine has cast on left side of block 61637, towards the rear on same side has cast 152500 with 1 H below it (1 is above the H) and stamped into the block near #5 cylinder (still l/h side) is 339559. The head has stamped 152527.
Does any of this assist anyone in identifying the engine year?
Where do we begin to look for the chassis number to work out what model/spec/year it could be?

Would be greatful for any information.
