Press Release, North Pole:
Santa Claus announced this morning that he is being forced to cancel his annual toy flight.
He cited the current business recession, lack of corporate donations and government environmental rules and security regulations enacted since Sep. 11, 2001. He also said that part of the problem is the failure of the Obama administration to provide bail out funds.
In addition Santa also pointed out he has had to shoot the reindeer to feed his elves, thus making his annual trip a near impossibility.

After reading about Geoff Clark's experiences with a 1929 Essex which he reported in detail in the recent WTN, I decided to attack a problem that sidelined our 54 Hornet several months ago. While driving in Washington state the car started running erratically and then would simply quit. Each time I found that the timing had changed. :S Removing the oil pump revealed the likely culprit ... the gear was in sad condition. So I installed a new gear, established compression stroke on #1 cylinder, and the car started but labored. Having my hands full restoring a 52 Hornet I ignored the 54 until I read Geoff's article. I quickly discovered that sufficient fire was reaching the plugs to shock the heck out of me, but no spark was observed across the plug's contacts. New plugs and as readers already know, the car started and is now running great. I still don't know much but I am a whiz at timing this car.

Just wanting to share this with you. Will try to make it short. Got the Hudson disease when I was 9 when my dad bought a 1951 Hudson Hornet Convertible in 62. Got that car on mind all my life. Last spring I found a 54 Super Wasp and bought it. And found a 53 Super Wasp quite restorable too that I keep for the interior pattern and motor ( 308 in it) and trans ( Hydramatic). Knowing that there is about a dozen stepdowns in my province ( Québec-Canada)I consider myself quite lucky. So, I wanted to realize that cherish dream of mine. Send the 54 to a body shop and they where honest enough to tell me that it would cost far more than I thought to do the body and paint the way I wanted. The car is not rough but needs a lot of attention and a lot of hours of sanding etc etc. So I put an add to sell the 2 cars for $5000 plus a lot of spare parts and books etc. Got 2 calls, from friends, and they were not very tender with me cause I was throwing away a dream. Something that I talked to them so much from year to year. One week before Christmas, I received the January copy of "Le magazine de l'Auto Ancienne" the monthly magazine from the biggest Antique Car Club from Québec (2000+ members)and on page 6, there was an article titled: My Dream Car. And that article makes two-third of a page. And there is a picture of...My son, my car and me. Reading the article ( submitted by a director of the club)my eyes went wet. And I finaly realized that, no, I would not sell the cars. I went with the copy to a friend of mine who is building a huge garage, well equiped, and reserved 2 spaces. I met a bodyman ( 40 years of experience) who is working alone in his shop and he is willing to teach me what to do, parts by parts. It will be long, but I decided I would do it. So, thanks to these friends, and a special thanks to the guy who wrote my story. Sometimes, you need a kick somewhere to get the things right. I am not good to post pics right now but I will put all the progress made month by month. The garage should be ready in 3 weeks so, I will pick the car in Montreal ( 200km from here) and get it in. Will begin the work in spring. With that, I wish you all a Happy New year! Michel. P.S.The 54 is a California car ( the 4th pic is from the frame area where I just passed a 0000 Bulldog on it. Quite nice. No floor to repair.

Hey guys,

First let me apologize if I am breaking protocol here as I looked for forum rules but could not find any.

The main reason for my post is to introduce myself. My name is Brandon and I run a coatings company in North Carolina. We do a lot of performance coatings, but we specialize in re-chroming automotive parts in a unique way. True chroming processes are some of the most dangerous process in the world. Chemical baths are not only expensive to maintain, but hard to keep compliant with the EPA. We use a different process, whereby instead of Chromium we use pure silver.

This is a spray on chrome system but it is not your $5 a rattle can spray paint. This is a true basecoat, midcoat and urethane clear that is as hard and durable as a factory paint job on a car. This process is the same as what is used to create mirrors so you know it's reflective. As far as cost goes, we are a job shop that will price your part according to size and color finish that you are looking for. Typically I tell people that if you want it chromed by us, it will cost somewhere between 2 and 3 times what it would cost to paint the same part. We can do regular chrome as well as black chrome, match any color chrome and even do metallic colored chrome such as copper, bronze, gold etc.

One of the main things that we help people with is re-chroming old pot metal. As I'm sure you guys know, good old pot pits and is virtually impossible to replace with original pieces. Your often forced to pay a machine shop tons of money to reproduce your piece. Well with our system, we can restore your old pot metal pieces, fix the pits and chrome them in any color chrome you would like. All for a fraction of the cost to replace it with a new machined piece.

I would be glad to answer any questions you guys have or just talk about great classic cars. I appreciate your time reading this and hope to hear from you guys soon. I'll post a couple of pictures of our sample pieces below so you can see for yourself how it looks.
