So husband bought me a 1986 white caddy with white leather interior in mint condition, only has 5000 miles on the engine & has been in storage. I contacted the GM corporation to find out how to care for the leather, no owner manual and the guy sent me to a couple of websites that were completely useless. My husband & I know nothing about classic cars and we want to care for this one correctly. Can someone please help me with this? How do I care for this vehicle ??? Thanks in advance!!

I recently bought a 67 Impala and am looking to add the new chrome/side moldings to the side. Saw a few photos of cars who had it starting behind the front tire to the back tire then from the back tire to the rear (hope you can understand, lol). I will attach a photo if I can. I love the way it looks and would like to add it to my car. Having a hard time finding pieces or any place that sells it so wondering if it was not on the original 67 Impalas. Suggestions? Right now it looks like it has stick on strips (right side needs a little body work so this is coming off).

We purchased a 1966 lemans yesterday. I drove just out of the sellers driveway and it cut off. The car had been sitting a while and we were able to get it to start with a bit of starting fluid fiddling with the carb. It seemed that something was clogged up almost because when trying to start it fuel shot from the carb to the top of the open hood. Anyways, we drove it about an hour with no problems and then when i slowed to make a turn it just died on me. Now we cannot get it to start. Ive tried putting a little gas/starting fluid in the carb with no luck so i dont think it is a fuel issue. It just doesnt appear to be firing. The motor is a 350 Chevy (i know...i know.., currently searching for a 389) but at the moment im not sure what to check to see if i am getting a spark. Any advice would be helpful as I am a total noob to classic cars.

Hello, all car game lovers out there. I have a new game for you. It's called Gear & Piston by LudiCreations. It's a board game where you and other people compete to invent and make the best car. It's set in a nice, steampunk feel, which I personally really enjoy. You build your cars piece by piece by inventing and making new parts, scavenging through the junk yard, etc. It's looking to be a pretty cool game.

Gear & Piston is currently being funded in a Kickstarter. It has already reached its goal, so the game WILL be released, and now we're working on funding stretch goals to enhance the game. If anyone is interested in getting more details on this upcoming, cool board game, please check out the Kickstarter and hopefully pledge to get a copy of your own when it comes out. :)

Here's a convenient link to their Kickstarter for all who're interested.

http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/ludicreations/gear-and-piston-board-game

Thanks for your time everyone, and I hope some of you are interested and help back this project with us. :)

Hello Everyone,

This is my first post here on Classiccar.com and the beginning of a new project ( I Hope). Ten years ago I purchased a 1971 Oldsmobile Cutlass S from my uncle. He was supposed to give me the title but was unable to find it as the car sat in his garage for a long period of time. I have been holding on to the car ever since and I want to start rebuilding it. I want to make sure I can get a title before I start investing in the car but haven't found any good answers. Today I talked to the Illinois DMV and they stated that if my uncle could not supply them at least an old registration that there was no way I could get a title. I imagine this is not the end of the line for my 1971 Olds there has to be another option. Im not interested in making this into a drag car and im definitely not about to junk it or enter it in any demolition derbies! It needs to be on the street.

I also gave the lady at the DMV the vin number which is 13 numbers and they have no record of the car. So I would imagine it hasn't been registered as of 1980 because I think thats when the VIN started.

I have read online about requesting a title as a "Custom Car" see attached link. Is this an option or is there a better way to go about it?

http://www.cyberdriveillinois.com/departments/vehicles/title_and_registration/apply_custom_rod.html

Thank you everyone in advance for your help, I really want to figure this out so I can get this project started!!!!!

Hello everyone,

My name's Tom, and I just signed up here to ask a few questions.

It's been my life long dream to have a classic car. I especially like the European cars with the extra long hoods and all sorts of bells and whistles, like this beauty here:

http://fc01.deviantart.net/fs71/f/2012/357/9/e/beautiful_classic_mercedes_typ_500k_by_pingallery-d5owqwm.jpg

I'm not too awfully picky about exactly what car or exactly what year, however, there are a few things I believe make me stand out a bit in the classic car scene.

First and most important(steady your hearts collectors), working with my dad's 1986 suburban has taught me that while the exterior may be amazingly awesome, the engine and internal parts need constant babying. I have no real interest in having to tinker with my car every few weeks to get it to run properly, really I'm just interested in the body itself.

Secondly, it doesn't actually have to be a classic. I've heard tell that a few companies make kit cars, but so far I've been unable to find much of anything on them, at least on non-American kits.

Basically, I'm wondering if there's any way to buy just the body of a car, and then put in a modern engine, transmission, etc. I don't have a whole lot of time to be tinkering with it, and my grandpa's 1930 something Ford needs care every single weekend to run properly.

I'm also curious how much just a body would cost. Is it possible to buy just the body from a kit? And how realistic is my idea of swapping in modern parts? I'm sure there would be some conversion issues if I were only replacing a few parts with new ones, but what if I'm replacing everything?

Also, as point of fact, I intend to pay a custom car company(that I have yet to find) to built it for me. So this won't be a garage, do-it-yourself project. I don't trust myself that much, even with a fully detailed manual.

Any thoughts, ideas?

Cheers all,
Drame22

Hi,
I wonder if anyone her knows of a good reference book on early cars? I collect real photo postcards, and many times they have early cars in them. Does anyone know of a book that will tell me what make of car I have pictured in my postcards - perhaps a reference book with good photos in it? Sometimes you see just the front or back of a car in these postcards. Most of the postcards I have date from 1900 to 1940.
Thanks in advance.

Hi,
I have a postcard here from 1916. It is a posed real photo-type postcard of a man (George Stevens) sitting in what appears to be a race-car. What this driver wrote on the back of the postcard makes me think that he was perhaps notable in the sport, as it reads, "My dear Vellie, I hope you will find this card a good souvenir of the old sport --With my best Regards, Yours, George" The postcard was never sent through the mail, as there is no stamp nor postmark or address. On the 'Name And Address Here' side, is written, "To my dear friend Vellie Curtis". Does anyone know 1. what kind of car this is, and 2. who this George Stevens is?
