I completed a 3 wire alternator conversion on my 55 bel air with a 235 engine. Following the electrical diagram the engine will run-on after the key is turned to the lock position. other than that everything is working great. the alternator I installed is a Powermaster 8002 alternator. Can anyone shed some light on this problem???

Just a quick intro In my search for a 4x4 truck to replace the old toyota i sold, i happened accross a 1958 cad coupe...... it runs, drives, but doesnt stop !! I have moved stuff around in my shop to accomidate its amazing length, to start work on it.

I have found ONE source for parts so far, but am looking for more, so if any one has leads to part sources, let me know.

I have yet to identify what cad it is, as the title says Cad Coupe, and thats it, and there is no identifying badges that states its a deville, eldaroda ect ect.

My background isnt restoration at all, although i did a few non professional restoes on a 59 willies jeep, 68 int scout, and 75 280z, none of which i was proud enough to take pics of.

I work in the ammunition field as my pay job, with airbrush work on the side, so that has made me friends with some paint and body professionals to help guide me along....... the body has no rust holes, only minor surface rust, all emblems are there, except the caddy inserts, bumpers are in good shape along with floors..... surface rust...... so it seemed like a "simplier" project to start with.......... and i have to say, its way cool !!!!!!

My objective is not to go original shiney car, but more rat rodish, flat black paint, with gloss traditional flames adn airbrushed art in the flames, but since that wont happen for some time, its up in the air still........

First off is mechanical...... it needs a master cylinder ( i think) for the brakes), which i found a rebuild kit (hopefully that isnt hard to do), valve cover gaskets with a bolt broken off in the head, gasket where the carb meets the manifold, and a heater core that i havent been able to find the connections to yet, as its been by passed........ OH, and alternator. It has one on it that replace the generator, but it seems not to charge the battery..... plan is to go with another one wire hookup on the alternator.

THats about it....... i hope to find this forum a great source of information, and assistance, and as i learn more, i hope to be able to return the favors to others.......

THis car has buttons and stuff that i dont have a CLUE what they are for too !!!!!!!!!

anyways, hello to all, and thanks in advance for everything LOL

I am working on a friends 66 SS396 4 speed Chevelle. When we pulled the engine, it was very difficult to get the engine far enough forward to disengage from the trans and we basically forced it out. I'm thinking we have the wrong oil pan. Someone previous to us has cut away some of the rear edge of the cross member to gain clearance I presume, and the had 1/2" nuts between the engine mounts and the block to raise it up for more clearance.

I have bought a new pan from KJM Performance on line that is supposed to fit this car, but it is the same as the one we already have. The sump on the pan is about 9" front to rear and hits the cross member as we were trying to get the motor out. If there is a pan out there with a smaller sump that would give the necessary clearance I would like to get it.

I tried GM and the original part number is discontinued. Any info would be appreciated.

Well, I own a 1972 Nova with a bored (.40) 350. It is my everyday driver and has ran good, until last night. I was coming home from work and the car started making a clacking noise, not a grinding, but a clacking. I figured it was the rotor in the distributor. Nope.... now I am starting to think I bent a push rod in one one of the back valves. The motor is built to race, so I thought. The lady we bought it off of said the guy she bought it from raced it. It does have a nasty cam (375 maybe), MSD and gears out the ass. If it is my push rod bout you tell me how to fix it?

Any Advice if good.
Thanks,

Howdy all. NFG here. Cool forum. Thx for any help in advance.

I have a question, but first my story, if you will.

When I was a kid, my folks gave me a sweet 1972 Olds 442 when I turned 16 in 1983. They bought it in '74 and Dad slowly built it up over the years. Believe me, I worked for it cutting firewood from 6:am to noon every Saturday morning of my adolescent and teen life, and cutting 2 acres of grass twice a week. Dad loves that damn fertilizer!

Anyway, being just basically a not very bright kid, I partied that car into the ground and eventually it merged with a damn tough telephone pole. It was a draw, but both lost in the exchange. I got a couple of nice scars, which cool chicks like, but lost my prized ride in '88.

As I've gotten older I've grown to appreciate every thing about that car like I should have then, and like some of you I would guess, I attach it to my ever-fleeting youth, remembering all of the great times that happened in/on/around/within walking distance of that car. It was a total chick magnet. Anyway...blah blah blah married w/ kids, yeah.

Here's the deal. I have some money now and I'm looking to replace the car, but cannot find an exact match.

It resembles this car, but differs in some ways....

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Cars-Trucks___OLDSMOBILE-CUTLASS-442-1972_W0QQitemZ160286539361QQddnZCarsQ20Q26Q20TrucksQQddiZ2282QQcmdZViewItem?hash=item160286539361&_trkparms=39%3A1|65%3A-1|240%3A1318&_trksid=p4506.c0.m245

How it differs...

Ours came with a bench seat and column shifter (dad later changed this to the pleather buckets/floor shift).

It did have the ram air fiberglass induction hood like the model above, with the round corner binders.

Automatic tranny.

It came with a 350 Rocket engine, and a Quadrajet 4 brl carb (which Dad added a shift kit, cam, headers, and a Holly 750 dbl pumper.)

It also had same front honeycomb grill.

It had all the 442 emblems inside and out.

The dash was the same, except in wood grain/black.

It's original color was a holy bright terror (my color name, not theirs) GREEN, with white stripes on the ram air induction hood. I was pimpin' before I even knew what that was (and I still don't really). It was god awful, but dad changed that too. It ended up being satin black stripes on glossy black. I wish I could show you a picture, but I'm afraid I'm all out of those as well.

It did not have the 455, the rear spoiler, AC, or rear bumper cut outs for the tailpipes.

My dad always told me it was kinda rare, having around 2000 of em made. I've searched and can't figure it out.

W25, W30, F-85, many others...crimony, I'm lost.

Any ideas?

Just bought a 63 Bel Air and wondering what to do with it.I'd like to get the most bang for my buck. The car is in pretty good condition, all original with just a few surface rust spots, Has had a paint job but needs a better one. Has 171000 miles on it, but the cars looks like it has 50000. Interior original and in nice condition. 283 with 3 on the tree. It is a 2dr. Here is my question. Do I try and keep everything original or do I do some modification. Bought from the original owners son for $3000 and basically I want to know what everybodies opinion is. I would like to modify it with a 409 and a four speed but my boss(wife) says it would be worth more staying in original condition. Is it truly original condition with a new paint job? Thanks for your help.

Hello. I am brand new to this site. I just took ownership of a 1967 Pontiac LeMans. I am trying to find out the options that this car came with. I have been told that the cowl tag tells all that info, but haven't been able to find it anywhere. I want to know what engine, transmission, rearend, color, a/c, seats, etc. Basically, I want to know if what is in the car now is original. Thanks in advance for any help.

Hi,

My team is currently rebuilding a 63 Impala convertible basically from scratch. Most of it is do-able, but we've run into some problems with the door / window workings.

Does anyone know of somewhere I can see a diagram of all the parts or something? Ebay has lists of parts, but that doesn't help me if I don't know the name or where they go.

Also, I'm looking for obscure parts like quarter window guide assemblies and quarter glass regulator hinges. I've tried the regular places like Hubbards, Cars Inc, etc. with no luck. Any ideas on that without having to call every junk/salvage yard in the state?

I am looking for the metal cover on the dash board of my car. I removed the part to see if i could fix it up. It seems to be a very thin alumium. it holds the chrome trim for the speedometer and clock, plus it has the green lights for the signals. hopefully some one has one or knows where i could have it redone.

I have a lot of other parts as well as a 56 special with some parts on it i would be willing to trade.
thank you
