Hello all, im new to these forums and I have a few questions for you, my new buddys

I have a 73 Chevy nova (non SS) rolling chassis. I have a 454 engine (bored out .060 and roughly 400hp / 450 ft-lb torque), the block was from a 1980 Chevy one-ton Pickup. This is my first time working on a classic muscle car. I was wondering on what I should do.

Should I buy a 350 engine and get an M-22 or BorgWarner T-5 and restore it back to original or should I use my 454 big block and buy a transmission for it?

If I chose the 454 big block, I actually want a manual transmission but dont know which would be best to choose. I'd like suggestions on other suitable manual transmissions please.

Is there a 5speed manual that will bolt up? I was thinking of using a 700R4 for 4spd which can take up to 650hp but the thing is, Im only planning to go for susension upgrades after the swap.

Answer back soon, please & Thanks. I'll be back to read replies and when I have more questions (cause im going to have lots) and also on a hug-a-noob day. :o

My husband and I buy and sell used cars- never classic cars by any means.

Today- one of our customers called and asked if we'd buy their 1974 Pontiac Firebird- they are losing their home and want to get it sold. We know they have been trying to sell it for quite a while, but we live in a rural area and people don't really have the money for them.

My questions- ( keep in mind He says he has over 20k into it.)

What makes a 74 firebird worth the big bucks?

What is the difference between the formula 400 and the Trans Am?

The vehicle is finished and painted- with one small dent in the rear quarter panel- does this significantly reduce the value?

I'll likely have more information later as my husband is going to go check it out, but I'd like to have the cash in hand to buy if it really is this great deal everyone is saying it is.

So- could anyone possibly give us a crash course in this area- so that we may make a semi-informed decision?

Things to look for when we check it out?

We'd like to buy to keep for a little while for our local parades and such- we're a little community that still does that kinda stuff... BUT- should we want/need to sell, we'd like to make a little money.

Sorry this is so long. Thank you very much to anyone willing to give me some information.

Thanks,

Ok, so I guess I should start from the beginning. I bought a 1972 SS Chevelle about 4 years ago. I loved the car, I loved driving it. I was only able to drive it for 3-6 months. I had issues with the dealership I bought it from with getting the title handed to me. It was a whole legal ordeal. Now that I finally have the title, I just kinda' want to get rid of it.

So here's the deal:

I paid after all it was said and done with taxes: $35,000. It was an off the frame restoration and it has a 396 Engine in it. It's a really nice car, but I'm thinking it needs a battery change and possibly something done on the transmission because I've noticed liquid puddles under the car.

I'm not sure how to go about selling it or what I would even get for it. I feel like I should atleast ask for $30,000 after I detail it and put in a new battery. Could you guys maybe suggest what I should do?

The trunk was built by Arrow Auto Trunk Co.

I am not sure for which car it was made for.

The dimensions are : 38 x 12 x 18 inches

All the locks work fine, no dings, great condition... leather obviously shows age. One strap broke, but I still have it (see picture)

1955 Cadillac Convertible. What a head turner this car is! In summary, its a nice running car that is ready to be enjoyed immediately. It has a newer 1960's vintage Cadillac engine and transmission. It has been mildly customized with the hood and trunk being louvered, dummy spots, and fender inserts from I what I believe to be from a 50's Buick.

There are some areas of rust on the body and in the trunk. Passenger window not operating. Gas gauge and Speedometer also not working. Dual Electric cooling fans in place of original. I suggest call me to discuss the details on this car. Currently registered and insured in the State of Rhode Island. Asking $24,500

I bought an Oldsmobile F-85 about 2 years ago that was in moderate shape. Only 50,000 miles on the clock. However, since the day I got it, it has had a strange driveline wobble. It is most extreme at around 30mph then seems to get better.

In an attempt to fix it, i recently had the driveshaft totally rebuilt and balanced. I was told the U-joints were pretty well shot and the hanger bearing was totally gone. It cost me around $300.

After re-installing it, the problems mostly returned very quickly. It is much better than it was, but it still makes an audible clicking noise at low speeds and has a very noticeable vibration. To make matters worse, I jacked the car up and noticed that a fair amount of play has returned to the U-joints between the slip yoke and rear shaft.

Anyone have any ideas?

Well, I finally finished the trans replacement in the Cutlass.

I pulled the 350 and had a friend build me a 200 4R. It is a direct bolt in. All I had to do was take the trans crossmember and turn it 180 degrees around to match up to the mount. No driveshaft replacement needed.

I took it for a ride today and am very pleased. Before when I was going 50 MPH the tach was readiing 4200 RPM's. That's because I have the 4:33 rear diff in it. Now with the 200 when I go 50, it's revs are at 2200 RPM's. Very streetable for long trips now and a bunch a gas saved with better MPG.

Anyone know someone with a similar situation, tell them this is a very easy and cost effective solution and I recommend it.

To bad the temps are only 4 degrees here, otherwise i'd still be out driving, ha,ha,ha.

I have a friend who has a Red 1963 Pontiac Bonneville Convertible that she is looking to sell. It has all the goodies, a 389 4 barrel V8, and 105,000 miles, but was rebuilt 5000 miles ago. All of the numbers match, and it is all original. The only item of note is that the convertible top needs to be replaced as her husband was restoring it, but sadly passed away this year. She has been given what she feels is a lowball offer of in the vicinity of $20,000. for it. I can provide more information about it if anyone is interested, and if this is the proper forum in which to do so.

You may reply to this post or send me an email if you are interested, or if you know if that sounds reasonable as an offer for it.

Thanks,

John

PS If this should be in classifieds, I will delete it, but I'm not sure how much the vehicle is worth.

hello to all and Happy Holidays .I have just completed a 65 Catalina.Rebuilt the engine as a as close to a ram air 3 as possible. I am now having brake problems.I decided to take off the power brake and go with manuel thinking this would solve my vacume problem .Ok with manuel brakes now on the car it still will not stop, the pedal is hard as a rock with no freetravel at all. Is there a difference in the brake pedal setup [manuel vs power] also someone told me there is a piece that is between the firewall and the master that is not on a power setup. Any thoughts on this problem. THANKS " old fart in tennessee"

Hey all, I'm new here and have a couple questions. Bought a house and found a transmission and a bell housing in the garage. They are both old and don't match and muncie or borg warner descriptions. I think they might be from a bel-air but don't know how to check.

The trans has GM 597615 and c239

Also says 591620 its a 10 spline input.

Main housing has 3686832 gm on it.

The bell housing has 3836201 GM on it.

Thanks for any help!

I bought a 1966 Pontiac Star Chief Executive 4 door hardtop. Long story short I have to drive this car everyday due to a car accident on my other daily driver. Since i have to drive this car everyday until my main car is fixed i need heat. i live in Michigan and the winters here are not kind. They really suck. The ac/ heater box was missing from the car when i brought it so i have no clue of what it looks like. So i ordered a heater box assembly with condenser from East West Parts. I get the heater box to my mechanic and he says the box is the wrong box so i call east west auto and they said they sent the correct box, so now im stuck with no heat :'( some one please help me identify the correct heater box. i have some pics here that ill post up, if anyone can guide me in the right direction i would greatly appreciate it.
