After a lot of head scratching, I tracked this place down and figured I'd ask for any ideas.

I've got a 1963 Bel Air that is in excellent condition, but it has been sitting for about a year, as the previous owner passed away. After replacing the battery and starter, we were able to get the car to start right up and drive beautifully. We got to the parking lot of a parts store, turned it off, and were unable to turn it back on after that.

Strangely, turning on the headlights from the dashboard doesn't work, and I get no power to my accessories when turning the key the ACC or ON. When turning the key to START, the starter doesn't budge.

We were able to run a wire from the positive post of my new battery to the positive post on the ignition coil, and short the posts on the starter with a screwdriver to get the car running. However, it ran really rough, mis-fired, and I had extremely dim headlights (as if it was running off of a drained battery instead of alternator power).

So as it stands right now, this sucker doesn't show any signs of life unless we short the starter and run that wire from the battery, which is pretty nasty. I don't get power to my panel/dashboard/interior lights, and I can't turn the car on like a normal person.

Does anyone have any idea what would be causing this? A friend seems to think the problem might be the ignition switch (i've already replaced the part that pops out with the key). But I figured the headlights would at least work regardless of the state of the key.

My son just bought me an old Belair that needs some work. Brakes first, we are trying to pull the master cylinder to rebuild, and can't get it out. Our shop manual claims you remove the assembly (it's frame mounted...buried under the pedal floor) by poking a 'stiff wire' into an unplugged hole on the pedal linkage pivot housing. We guess this should push out a pin of some kind which will free the pivot shaft??? Any better suggestions or insight into the 'stiff wire poking' phenomena? Mucho Gracias.

1954 Buick Century 4 door Sedan with Original 322 Cubic Inch 200 Horse Power Nailhead V8 and 83K miles (the odometer says 83K and the previous owner believed it was correct)

The Century has never been restored, just maintained to keep it in good working order. If you are looking for a Century in good original condition that runs and drives great, this is the car for you. The 54 Buick Century has one of the most gorgeous front ends ever produced, and this one is a fine example. It sounds great, is very solid and rust free, and has a very clean original interior. The car's title is clean and has no liens against it.

I purchased this car less than a year ago thinking it was going to be my family’s classic for many years to come and invested in it with this in mind. I did everything I could to make it safe and reliable for my whole family. The body and frame is rust free except for two nickel sized holes in the trunk where it looks like water dripped in due to worn weather-stripping. The floors are solid and were painted with enamel before the heat shield /sound deadener and new carpet was installed. The rockers are rust free. The car starts and runs great. While on the highway it easily goes 70 and has more to give when you hit the gas. The paint is not original but is an older paint job that still has plenty of shine but has some chips from being a driver. All chrome and stainless steel is in place. The chrome is in good driver condition and the stainless steel is also in good shape. The engine is the original 322 V8 Nailhead with oil bath air filter and 4 barrel carburetor. The car has 5 new radial tires on newly sandblasted and painted rims. The glass is in perfect condition except for the rear wing windows (flat glass). One is cracked but functional and the other is fogging. All windows roll up and down easily. All of the gauges work. The interior is in original condition except for the carpet which is new. The interior shows wear but is in overall good condition. The brakes are in very good condition, only a few years old. The car shifts beautifully. The exhaust is newer and in good condition. The car comes with 5 extra hubcaps, spark plug covers for the engine, shop manual, matched pair of door locks, other period literature, and a few other miscellaneous parts. A heater knob and the windshield washer reservoir are missing.

I need some help on interior replacement

I've found a 1960 Cadillac series 62 that I would love to own. But I'm really trying to lay out a plan for it.

Right now I'm trying to put a price tag on the interior. I'm hoping to do some of it myself but I'm planning for the worst. If I had a professional replace carpet, seat upholstery, dash, door panels, and other vinyl pieces do you think it'd be more than $7,000. I'm sure it could cost more, a lot more, but I just want a basic simple refreshed interior. I'm not looking to replace key parts like the steering wheel, vents, switches, or consul parts or anything like that, mainly just the upholstery, carpet, and dashboard. Thanks for any help or advice you got for me. I've done as much research as a can, but I just don't know about labor, that's what I'm worried about. Parts actually seemed pretty cheap (cheaper than I expected), but I know labor can skyrocket quickly. How many hours do you think I'm looking at?

When i turn the low beam lights on they shut down after approx. 15 seconds and turns on again after 2-3 seconds. I have checked the realys and seem to work and they are not getting warm/hot. But the power relay is clicking when the lights shut down.

Hope you can bare with my english writing since I live in Sweden and english is not my first language.

We're trying to find the VIN of an Impala, It's not on the body pillar like it should be. We've remade most of it from the body plate. 31847(A|T)10XXXX. Where's another place we could look on the car, OR, which of the letters on the body plate indicates the assembly plant? It reads "BODY AT (SEQ NUM)". Also, We've heard that the VIN may be on a plate affixed to the top of the fuel tank, Whether this is true or a funny joke we're not sure yet. Thanks in advance for any help you can give.

Hello, Im back with another problem i cant solve. Hoping you guys can help me look in other directions..

Just finished building a 455 olds. Hei ignition. Cant get the damn thing to fire. Acts and acts like it wants to but just wont start.

i am pretty sure i have everything hooked up right. As its in a boat and i have another boat with a 327 sbc in it that i just copied. (the wiring)

Let me know if im wrong but as far as the distributor and timing marks and such is just like sbc? As far as seting dist.at tdc where the dampner is at 0* and rotor pointing at #1. with the #1 wire on it?18436572?For the olds as well?

Thinking it could be carb issues as i rebuilt the carb but dont know where or who ever had it before.

Any advise would be helpfull as i am about to pull my hair out !!!

Thanks

Hi, while driving my 59 Sedan DeVille, I noticed the brake pedal got very mushy. When I got home, I checked the master cylinder and needed to add brake fluid - the level was way down. When I put the nylon cap back on, I noticed its threads were stripped. After I had filled the resevoir to the top, I had a friend pump the brakes while the car was idling. I noticed fluid spurt out thru a pin sized hole in the center of the cap. The brakes had been fine until this, I think I just need a new cap without a hole. Any suggestions on where I can get a cap (Bendix cylinder I think), or other obvious things?

The cap is nylon, has 2 wings on the top (so it could be turned by hand?), and a slot in the center for a screwdriver to turn it.

Thanks, John

I recently purchased a 1968 Impala SS Convertible. The car has the original 327 - 275 HP engine. Previous owner replaced the intake manifold with a Weiland. Also added a Carter carb and Mallory electronic distributor. The car turns over and sounds like it is going to fire, but as soon as you let the key go it dies. When it does fire up the cars dies as soon as you move it from Park to Drive or Reverse. It then takes a few tries to get it started again. Any ideas as to where the problem may be? My thoughts are its either the distributor or the carb. I have a Rochester 4bbl and an older GM HEI distributor that I want to put on the car that came off my '72 Corvette a few years ago. I also have an Edelbrock manifold that will go on instead of the Weiland.

Any help would be great. Thanks!
