Hey there, My names Ethan and I'm 20. I've always loved Muscle Cars from the 60's and 70's. I finally have a chance to purchase one. I found a 1971 Chevrolet Nova for $2500. The body's in perfect shape and the engine and TH-350 run flawlessly. The reason the guys selling it so cheap is because he said the numbers don't match, which I'm not worried about since I just want one of these cars for my own project of restoration and customization. I'm wondering about auto insurance. Someone told me I could use Hagerty or American Collectors Insurance, but I currently have State Farm. This friday I'll be calling them and seeing if they would Insure the Nova and for how much. My question is what is your opinion on those companies, if there's a certain company I should go with? I don't have the best driving record but I haven't had any tickets or anything like that in the past 4 years. When I get the Nova it will be used as a daily driver, not a parade queen, that will be my biggest problem I'll run into I suppose, that and my age. What do y'all think?

P.S. The car has a 350 in it right now, which I'll be swapping out with a 454 later on if it matters.

I knew that all GM motors have a block code, so I located it but I have no idea what it means or how to decode it. If anyone can help me decode it and figure out the year, location, what vehicle it was originally in, etc. (or even a decoding website) would be greatly appriciated! Block # 3969854
Next to that number was this:

Hey all,

I have a fully restored 72 Monte Carlo, and the tape deck just went out so I took the opportunity to replace the "original" dash speakers and just bought a regular Kenwood MP242 audio deck. I have a DieHard Platinum P3 battery (because sucking 1/3 a gallon per start up is not cool anymore).

Few questions for those who know more about wiring than I do (which is minimal).

I'm obviously going to undermount it and am struggling to find an easy path to the fuse box which is buried DEEP inside of the dash. I have a temp guage and a psi gauge that the previous owner put in before I bought it. Are there any work-arounds or do I just have to gut the entire dash? Or, the most important, can I just run a hardwire straight from the battery to the deck so I don't have to screw with the fuse box?

After that can I just strip some of the sheathing off the ignition switch and wrap the wire around that or is there some magic special way I need to work it?

Thanks in advance!

I thought I had it all worked out to buy a 69 camaro but then a gorgeous 66 chevelle popped up in my price range. Plus I found a few questionable items on the camaro ... signs of bondo(body line joints missing at rear of car), missing headrests, no stainless on the drip rail.

Both cars are clones (just my price range) and I'm going restomod including air ride eventually. The problems with the chevelle are ...no a/c, all drum brakes, no knee knocker tach and console. I will still be around the same price as the Camaro if I purchase these missing items.

I am unable to take my emotions out of this one. What do you guys think?

it was an investment car, not one of his cherished pontiacs.. so i'm planning on finishing it and then selling it. it seems like i could spend let's say $6k getting it worked on by local shops, and sell it for let's say $60k on like ebay or whatever.. or ship/haul it to some professional vette guys, spend maybe $15k on it, and then send it to a big auction for let's say $100k. duh

i don't know much about it. i have a couple buddies that know stuff, but i figured i'd ask you guys. ---what do ya think i should do---

what's my first step. according to receipts there's already $30k into it, and i finally want to at least get this started this summer.

Hello,

My boyfriend has a 1964 Impala SS and is in the process of rebuilding it. He is busy working so he has asked me to search around online for the parts he needs. (so excuse my lack of know-how on the subject of cars, I'm just trying to help out if possible) the hardest thing to find seems to be the rear seat, or even a rear seat frame. I've been unable to find anything that matches exactly, either new or old. I have found many other types of car rear seats from years close to 1964, however I am not sure if they will fit because they are from different models.

My question is if anyone knows of any other kinds that will also work for this particular car? For example I have found a nice 1962 rear seat, but for a Biscayne, and also some bench seats however they are from pick-up trucks around the same time period. Are these basically interchangeable, or would we need to find an exact match?

Also, any websites that you know of to maybe search for these things would be greatly appreciated. I have checked Craigslist for all our surrounding areas with not much luck, as well as some websites made specifically for Impalas, which seem to only have front seats/bucket seats.

Thank you so much for your patience, and for the time taken to read this any info or advice would be very helpful.
Posted this in the General area but a suggestion was made to move it over here:

All,

Couple of questions here. I am hoping someone can help me understand what this was. First, when my father talk about his old car I don't know what is exaggeration and what is factual.

I am searching to find my father's old car. He talked about it seldom but it was a major part of his life. He met my Mother driving it. I want to get it for them.

I do want to get it right since I don't know all the details of this particular car and I admit I am only a novice in classic cars. Maybe some of the info I know will help someone point me in the right direction.

He always called it his 427 Chevy. Never by model name. Always the 427.

He said if I recall it was a limited addition. very few were made. Not sure if that is correct and he is embellishing

He purchased it after the war in at a dealer California. The story was that he saved his money from the military and spent it all on this car he wanted. It was the first thing he bought after coming home. He said for around $3k

If I can upload right hopefully I can show you the only pictures I have found of his he took of this car.

If any experienced classic car people are out there I was hoping to learn:

Why he only called it his 427? Was this special?

What car model was it?

Is it hard to find.. common?

anything specific that will help me with my search to find this for him.

Thank you gracious public.

Bar in small circle is like a spinner , turns within the circle . As you see it needs a total rebuild , very rare as I've never seen one on a car and I'm 74 , grew up with old Chevys all around me .

I was just left a 54 Pontiac by a family member who didn't take much care of it. I am going to attempt to get it back on the road butI am trying to find out as much info as I can about the car before I get started. My question is . This car , as you can see on the tag in the picture, is a 5430 body. I have been told that 5430 is not a pontiac body number. Does anyone have info for me?

Alright here's my dilema, I have a 1948 Pontiac with an inline 6, but the engine is not original and I need a carb kit for it, I believe the engine is out of a 1955 Pontiac but I could be wrong, but the carb in there is a GM Rochester Carb #7003536, so my first question is does anyone know where I can find a rebuild kit for that?

Next question is, I found on ebay an already rebuilt rochester carb #7005922, does anyone know how interchangeable these carbs are, cecause this one looks VERY similar to the one I currently have, but I'm not sure if it would work, any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

I have a 1991 Camaro RS, with a 3.1 V6 auto. The motor is running pretty rough, its got a 130,XXX on it, so im thinking it might be time for a new powerplant. My question is..... is it possilbe, and how much work is it to replace the 3.1 with a 305 or a 350 v8 and 5 speed manual?

Ok, newbie question also....would i have to buy a 305/350 from another camaro, or is a 350 a 350, no matter were it came from???

Thanks so much for any replies, im sure you guys cringe seeing newbies like me on here!
