I have a 1971 cougar that hasnt run in a few years and I am trying to get it running again. It has a 351 C with 2brl carb.

I replaced the coil, the distributor cables, spark plugs and rebuilt the carb. I dont have a battery for it yet so I took one out of my 91 Jeep Cherokee (straight 6 engine).

I put the battery in and hooked it up and got power to the instrument panel, the oil and alternator lights come on. I turn the key and it will crank but will not start. I smell fuel in the carb so I know it isnt a fuel problem.

So I checked the plugs. The plugs are not getting a spark. I checked the distributor and it isnt getting a spark either. Is the brand new coil I bought a bad coil that needs to be replaced or is the battery I have in there too weak to spark it or what. I dont know how to fix this problem.

Any help would be great. Thanks.

I inherited a 1954 Ford Customline with an I-6 engine last year .. the car is almost completely original and has about 31,000 original miles.

Initially, it would drive and run great for a while, but then stall out after a period of drive time ... it felt like the engine was starved for gas. A mechanic friend of mine took off the little rubber fuel line that feeds into the mechanical fuel pump and found that it would barely pass any fuel at all.... Got a new one and put it in. Seemed to help a bit, but the Carb still didn't seem to be working very well, stalling out a lot ... the mechanic said I really needed a new carb.

I did some research and found that you can't really buy new carb's for these cars and that you have to get yours rebuilt, or buy another rebuilt carb. I went ahead and sent mine in to Mac's Antique auto parts to have it rebuilt. While it was out, I also replaced the steel fuel line that goes from the fuel pump to the carb.

Carb came back looking great... Installed it ... big problem though - the carb bowl completely fills and overflows all over the place every few minutes... I looked around and figured out how to adjust the float and did that ... I was able to get the car to run for a while sometimes with the float adjusted so that even the slightest movement upward cut off the incoming fuel... but it still overflowed quite often (and stalled the car. making a mess)

I decided that maybe I just needed to get another carb - I went online and found a really nice 1904 Holley Carb ... ordered it, installed it, and within 2 minutes of starting the car, overflow again!!!! Gas is coming out the top of the carb (round thing) and all over the place by the bowl gasket. I opened this one up and adjusted the float so that only slight movement upward would cut off the fuel, but that didn't seem to do anything ... 1 minute of running and it overflowed onto the floor again. This carb looks absolutely brand new .... I mean really nice.

So ... I'm a bit frustrated.

It seems like maybe there is way too much fuel pressure coming into the 1904 carb , and that its pushing fuel in even when it shouldn't be .... that seems to make sense, but I guess I don't understand how this carb ever would have worked new then?? Surely they didn't all run this poorly when new

Where should I go from here?

- Get a third carb? (ugh)

- Get another type of carb? (are there better carburetors that I should try rather than use a holley 1904?)

- Replace fuel pump or install some sort of fuel pressure regulator?

Thanks!!! any suggestions would be greatly appreciated !

I have a 1976 F-150 Ranger. It had been sitting at a neighbor's for ten years and one day he decided to give it to me. I want to make it road worthy again but cars have never been my 'cup of tea.' I honestly know nothing about them. My step dad had been working on the engine and he has unbound it and gotten it running. It does need a new fuel pump before it will actually run with some *ooomf*.
The part of the truck that is my responsibility is the interior. I need to know where to find seat covers, stereos, speakers, etc. that will fit in this model of truck. Or how to go about finding them.
The problem is i have very little money and not much experiance with cars. So i was wondering if there were any enthusiasts out there that know what i could do so i could get this car restored. I was told i could get a sponsor to help me fix the car up and put it in car shows or whatever but i honestly have no idea what i should be doing.
I'm a newbie and a youngin (22) at this and I've been looking to grab a classic car to work on / drive in the summer for the past few years. I'm looking to buy something running and in decent shape, (not necessarily great cosmetically.) I'm just worried about costly repairs and whether or not its hard to find parts. And what things I may need to know when owning one or looking for one. All information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much!

Doing a resto-mod on a Crown Victoria. Want to keep the car looking original while incorporating technology improvements. Want to replace the original heavy steel rims (that have five layers of paint & some rust spots) (and one is bent) with new lightweight, rustfree aluminum - that the original hubcaps will fit. The new rims (if I can find some) will be painted so that the ~1" edge that shows beyond the hubcap will match the car and everything will look original.

Anyone know of a manufacturer/supplier/vendor?

(Yes, I am also replacing the big, bulky, heavy, inefficient drum brakes with modern discs - that part is easy, plenty of vendors. But an aluminum rim that the hubcaps will fit - like finding a needle in a ........).

Since Ford made about 1.3 million cars in 55 likely using the same rim size (I am excluding some models), somebody must make a replacement in aluminum (yes, I know where to buy new steel exact replacements)?

Hey everyone, I'm new to the Classic Cars forum. And I had some questions.

We used to own a 64 Falcon (that I was never allowed to drive, it was my ex's baby) and I fell in love with it. After much searching I finally found one and I've had my eye on her for 8 months. A girl owned it and then a dealership bought it from her.

It's 2500, and I am trying to find someone to look at it with me because I honestly don't know how to tell if I'm getting a good deal on a car.

I know where the girl works and they have all paperwork for anything that has been done on the car since it was first owned, and she works at carquest so I know if I have any other questions I could ask her. But for those of you who know what you're looking at, can you tell me if this car is worth 2500? I know it has less than 200,000 miles. I believe it may have been under 150k if I remember right. I noticed its a little torn on the passenger door, and there's some paint that flaked off on the back. Here's a few pictures. Any advice would be great because I plan on purchasing it on the 12th.

I have a 57 Y Block, the fuel pump that has two outlets on the top and the main fuel outlet on the side. On the top one outlet is supposed to run to the intake and the other runs up to my vacuum powered wiper motor. Does anyone know which way these hook up? Does the one closest to the fan pulley go to the intake or is it visaversa? Also would this being incorrect cause a rythmic vibration? Thankful for any help :(JC

Hey Guys, I am new to this forum and throught I would try to contribute. If anyone is looking for reapir manuals, owner manuals or service manuals for virtually any type of car, there is a FREE ebook at the address below. I asked him could I download and share it, but he said he prefers to have people come to the website. The site itself isn't the best, Sometimes there are annoying ads and surveys. The ebook is only a couple of pages, but it gives a list of places online where you can find almost any service and repair manuals, even for very old models and trucks. I would highly recommend to download it and keep it on your computer.

I have aquired a 1951 mercury and it is in need of some body panels like floor front rear and trunk, rockers, rear quarters the usual after a few years in the yard. I am having a tough time finding any companies that reproduce 51 mercury body parts it seems to stop at 50. Am I out of luck or does anyone out there now of any company that has started producing panels for this year mercury. I have looked on line and everything seems to take me to a ford and thats it. Unless these specific panels can be interchangeable but I doubt. I could be wrong. any help would be greatly appriciated by anyone. Thanks

P.S. Where would I need to go to decode the VIN number to identify original style, engine size, etc....?

I purchased a 37 Ford Pickup with a newer V8 Flathead. I was told it is a 1953. I know it is newer because the distributor is in the front. I have searched all the Flathead sites to try and figure it out but can't. On the heads it has EAB and on the other head it has EAB D D102. On the passenger side of the motors bell housing on the back of the engine I found E1221. The engine is RED. I checked the http://flatheaddrag.com/birthday.html site and where they say to look (intake gasket face), all I see is an E. Can't find any other numbers on the block. Anyone have any suggestions on what year this is and what model motor? Also is there any other locations to look or reference sites. Sorry just got the truck and this is my first Flathead AWESOME!!

Thanks
