The owner thinks that it is a '53 Mercury Monterey, but it does not have the side emblem on the front fender that would indicate that is a Monterey. Without the VIN plate or the side emblem, is there another way to distinguish between a Monterey and a Custom Sports Coupe? Also, what is the difference between the two models?
Hello all I am new here!

So a family friend of ours has had a Mach 1 Mustang (1969 I believe) just sitting at there old farm house. Unfortunatly It has been sitting under an eve since about 1995 maybe. It is nowhere near perfect condition, but everything is there and intact. The down fall of my find is that the roof has bowed in Im assuming due to the amout of rain that has sat on it for the past years. The interrior is still good I think and no mold is growing.

If I were able to get this at a minimal/no price would it be worth it to try to restore it? Where would I go abouts getting a new roof to weld in place? I know this would take lots of work but I think I am be willing to try.

I was told the car ran fine when it was driven to where it sits. (A brother owed him some money and so he gave him his car as a payment,,,and there it sits....)

Would just the motor be worth pulling and building up?

- Are washer fluid lines the same as vacuum hoses?

- What type of radiator fluid?
- What auto-trans fluid?
- What size battery?
- How many quarts of oil and what kind of oil filter?
- Do I need to use a lead additive to the gas I use?
- Do I need to remove the ethanol?

I'm restoring a 1973 Comet and one of the things I'd like to do is swap out the automatic transmission for a manual. I've looked a little bit in to it to discover I can get a brand new one for a little over $2000. But, I'm not thrilled about dropping that much on a transmission.

Does anyone know where to look for a used/rebuilt transmission for this year? I think I need a toploader and I see where they had 24" with 26 splines for this model, but I don't know much beyond that. I'm not overly concerned with the right mounts and brackets or the clutch hardware, etc. because I'm sure I can find those items either off junkers or new. But the right transmission is essential to having a starting point for all this.

Does anyone know where to start looking for one? If possible, does anyone know what model number the 4-speed versions of these transmissions are?

1965 Ford Falcon 4-Door. Help, please?

I recently got a 1965 Ford Falcon 4 door. We drove her from Fort Gratiot down near Detroit in April 2010. For those unaware, about an hour and a half drive with no problems. Now she keeps making a sputtering want-to-stall sound. When I hit the gas it only gets louder with longer gaps in the sputtering and will occasionally make her stall out entirely. When looking at the temperature it's at about halfway, but the fuel gauge is slightly off so the temperature gauge could be as well. Our first thought was either a charging problem or an overheating problem. To remove the story of why we ended up doing such, just trust we needed to replace these parts. We have replaced the alternator, voltage regulator and wiring (which were tested after and appear to be running smoothly), radiator, water pump and the idle has been played with, if it's turned a half turn back or quarter forward she starts to stall. She's still sputtering and we have a couple of options left and are stumped where to begin.

If anyone could recommend where to begin or what else it could be, please do help. We're intending to start around sun-up (in 3-4 hours) though it may be later. Thus far between our intuition and other people's opinions it could be vacuum system failure (how can WE test for that without a mechanic?), fuel pump, carbuerator, thermostat, fuel filter or timing could be off. We know she needs an exhaust system but as of now we're not certain that could be causing stalling, could it? Any help would be greatly appreciated!!
Thank you very much,
One question I have though is where is the best source for replacement seat covers? I know Dearborn Classic sells them but does anybody have any experience with the quality from there?
Everything else on the car is fine. It belonged to my mother and grandmother before her so it is completely original. 70K original miles.

I have a business associate that is restoring a 1934 Ford Pick-up, the question that i have is, why does it only have a door lock cylinder on the passenger side of the truck?? There is no lock cylinder or apparently a place for one on the drivers side.

Any body know the reasoning behind this??

Thanks, Phil.

Hi all, I haven't been here for a while, but have a question about a vin #2Y89Z147061. Can anyone identify what this car is and if any special engine accessories were on it, like extra carbs. Thanks.

OldCar Mechanic, I finally got my 55 Victoria almost finished, remember the purple and white combination questions we talked about. Well I went from a purple bottom and white top to the more normal purple bottom, white in the middle and purple top. It looks better this way in my opinion. I'll post a pic tomorrow. Thanks in advance, Richie.

a couple days ago my car started not starting up right away.By the way its an 88 t-bird.and today at the store it completly wouldnt start had to call for a ride and everything. So its turning over but isnt even trying to run-no gas is getting in it sounds like. When I turn the ignition on I hear a hissing or running noise from the fuel pump for maybe 2-3 seconds then it stops, but I think it has always done that.and it also makes that noise during and after I try and crank it.My question is what should I look at when I go back to find out if it is the injectors or maybe the fuel pump.Any advise would be helpful.Thank You

I have a friend that just bought a 57 F100 for his son. It has a 223 with 3spd. manual- engine is torn down & missing many parts. He is looking to install a more modern engine - possibly a 300 6cyl. Will the original 3 speed mount up to a 300? Did they change the block during the run of the 300 so certian years would work & others not? Thanks for the help.
