Trying to decide what motor/trans to put in '56 Merc. Original 312 is missing and later 2v Y block in there now. I have tons of Ford motors already that I could use (a good rebuilt 292 +.040), a worn 312 that I would have still to get rebuilt (not cheap) an '89 Mustang 5.0 (strong), an '88 Crown Vic 5.0(tired), a good 1973 351 Cleveland (low compression 2V version) a 1959 FE 352(good), an FE 360(good) with early heads w/hard seats swapped on to it, a freshly rebuilt '78 410 (400M +.040) with 351 Cleveland heads and custom-ordered Competition cam, Weiand intake, etc., or one of several Lincoln 460 and 462's available to me. Was originally hoping to use the 462, since motor mounts bolt right up and manifolds clear A-frames better than FE motors. Unanticipated problem with 462 is oddball tranny for Lincolns is only bellhousing pattern that fits the later MEL motors, so would have to use Lincoln C6, but that has weird CV/slip joint output shaft. Can rear of trans be changed to normal splined output shorter tail, and how hard is that? FE is probably the easiest to use, but neither 352 or 360 are very snappy motors. Anyone who has put any of above motors into 54-58 Ford or Merc chassis, please opine. Am most in the dark with prospects of using either 5.0 motor, the 351 Cleveland, 400M (believe me, the 400's can cheaply put out triple the power they came from factory with), or 460 into this chassis. Input from anyone who has tried installing these in this chassis? I have put both an FE and a 430 Merc motor (MEL series) into a 54 Ford wagon before. Both bolt in, but FE manifolds can hit a frame if engine not spaced up a tad. Thanks, Mike MN

I resently picked up a 40 standard pickup. It needs complete restoration. The sheet metal is very solid. The grill needs work, there are a few bars missing but what is there is good. The box has been missing for years but the rear fenders come with the truck. The frame seems to be pretty solid but I found one spot with rust on it. I bought the pickup form a man whose father purchsed it in 1941. The original title was lost years ago, but I should have a new one here soon. The original engine was blown up in 1948, so at that time they bought a new crate engine for it. It is now stuck, but the mans son said they had it running about 15 years ago. I am asking $2500 without the box, but I have a 1939 standard that I would pull the box off of for an additional $500.
An Answer may be in here and I missed it. Sorry if I am repeating a question that has already been asked.

I have a 55 Ford F100. It has a dana 44 with I think 409 gears. I want to replace them with a better road gear and need some info on what would be the best solution. I was thinking 355's or around that. The truck has a 429 with auto 3 speed from a T'bird. Not sure of the year but guessing 68-74. I wont be hurting for power with the higher gears. Would replacing the ring and pinion be the best or swapping out the whole rearend? If you have an answer and a place to get this please let me know. With gas prices going up all the time I need a little better mpg. I drive this truck daily. If possible what would it take to make it posi track?

Thanks

As many already know, Henry was very set in his way in the late 1920's

But Clara and Son Edsel, Would Change all that...

...They threatened to sell their Family Owned Ford Motor Company $tock$ which meant that the majority of company stock would Then Cease to Be Held By Ford,

As It It would Then Be Held by the public and Henry Ford Would Loose Total Control Of Ford Motor Company (*for the second time).

A fate That I'm Sure Henry Would Have Thought was worse than two burned out light bulbs with only one last exhaust note.
A design that never would have come about if it weren't for the Very Forceful Hand that Clara And Edsel Held.

I am considering selling my Anglia (Harry Potter car). It's a rust free california car I had shipped to me last Fall (it's residing in my garage in PA near Carlisle now). I picked up a different car and this one needs to go. It needs some minor dents and stuff fixed and paint of course, but there is no rust, not even on the pan. It runs decent, but the starter is starting to give me trouble so I got a second one and it is included. It also has a transplanted 1600 crossflow motor in it, possible from a Cortina (so the previous owner tells me), so it has much more power then the original 944cc motor. If interested call me or email me for pictures and we can discuss price. It's off to ebay if I don't get some serious interest by weekends end.
There are two hoses that plug into the manifold on the brake booster; only one of them has vacuum. Is this normal? If not, then I suspect that the lack of vacuum in the one hose is the cause of the faulty brake booster.

So i have a 66 Ford T-bird Landau with a bored out 390! Its my baby and i've been trying to do as much as possible with little money and time. I'm only 19 but i would love to be a car customizer. My question was would it work or be worth the price for me to put my dual exhaust through the lower back panel on the car. Its the peice under the bumper..... I wanna do this because it would save tons of room when i lower the car down to the ground. I thought it would look slick to have them just barely out of that panel! Let me know of problems or ideas or just tell me if u think it would be cool. THanks!
