I have a 1964 Mercury Montclair Breezeway with a 390. I got a great deal on it, we call it "The Godfather". I love this car, I'm really ticked off about it though. It has a little over 85k on it, the frickin thing is smoking out of the dipstick and the oil filler. There is blow-by, and the oil pools onto the manifold.
I have been told it's rings, and I have also been told that it just needs a valve job. I need to have the valve seats hardened anyway so I can pump regular as and not have to add lead substitute. I'd hate to have to rebuild the whole motor.
The car looks great, it's just embarrasing driving it with it smoking out the back. Smoke doesn't come out of the exhaust, and the smoke isn't blue. It's not burning oil at all, and I think the Carb isn't right either. I have to feather the pedal to drive it, once I get it going it runs great.
I think the solenoid or the starter is not doing so hot either, Its hell to get it started. I have to jump it sometimes because trying to start it runs the battery down. Any info would be much appreciated.

Ok so I am considering purchasing a 1965 Ford Falcon 4door in great condition. But I live in Montreal, I do not want to buy a car just to store it away, I buy cars to drive them, but what I am wondering is if it will be able to drive in the snow. Do I just put some weight in the trunk and some winter tires on it and call it a day? What about the paint job? Is it even worth it?

Thanks in adavnce for the help

Classic Gurus,

My 54 Ford Customline is having fuel flow issues - I have a new fuel pump, new fuel line between pump and carb, new carb, and new short fuel line (12") right after the pump.

I'm thinking that the original metal? line from the pump to the tank (quite long obviously) is probably clogged up with gunk. My fuel tank sending unit is also not working, so I think this is a good time to replace that long fuel line, gas tank, and sending unit with new clean units.

The gas tank and sending unit appear pretty common and are all over online for a reasonable price, but I'm not really finding the long fuel line. Is this something I need to purchase straight and then bend myself (like the one between the carb and pump) , or can you buy them pre-bent? Where is the best place to buy the long fuel line?

thanks!!!

I have a 1952 ford flathead that I hope to get running. It is missing a fuel line, a starter motor and i doubt that the carb is any good (it had an air filter on it before this picture though). The engine has not run in a very long time, 30 years perhaps (it did run though). However, as you can see it has been garaged and is not in very poor shape. Any advice on necessary tips to getting this baby running? where would be the best places to purchase the parts for the best price? will disassembling it be necessary just to get it started? how can i loosen up up the pistons? How should I create a makeshift fuel tank? Any advice is extremely appreciated! I am a total rookie at this.

Hi,

I hope someone can answer my question, but think it might be answered only by someone who owns a 1959 Ford.

I have a 59 Ford Custom 300 2-dr that I'm beginning to restore. I ordered new rocker panels that are supposed to me a match and fit this particular car. However,
when I try to line the new rocker panel up on the car, I'm seeing that the current rocker panel face is about 1/2" wider than the new rocker panel that I bought.

I'm trying to figure out if I was sent the wrong rocker panels or if they are right and the bottom line of the car has been altered from what it should be. I do know it has mud work and such done, but I can't see someone altering the entire bottom line and on both sides of the car.

I hope to include a couple pics to show what I'm trying to explain. The new rocker panel has a rocker facing of about 1 3/4". The current rocker facing on the car is about 2 1/4". A 1/2" is just too much to account for.

I guess the ideal situation would be if somebody out there has a 1959 Ford Custom 300 2-dr and could measure the rocker facing for me, please? I have no way of knowing for sure without another reference from the same vehicle.

Thank you for any help.

Ok, here's the project. 1954 Mercury Custom Sedan, Dad bought the car in '72, Mom blew the 239 in the late 70's, refitted with a 256 bored .030 over then it was parked for 20 years...I got the car in 2001 replaced all of the essentials, everything worked fine for the next couple of years then the exhaust valves got stuck and I didn't have the money, time, or the confidence to fix it.

Present day, I decided to fix the engine and hopefully make the car show this weekend. No luck, valves stuck and engine siezed. Still going to the car show...on foot though!

Here is the delima...

1. I can rebuild the engine as is cost unknown as the block and head will have to be machined
2. I can get a 292 for about 2K
3. I can get a 239 for about $250.00 and restore to close to original
4. I could persue the option of upgrading it to a 302.

I still like the originality of the car with the 3 on the tree and all of the old bells and wistles. I do want to re-wire it since I have the engine out, so 12 Volt will for sure

Any help or advice would be appreciated

So I'm looking for some help or suggestions about what to do about this and/or what could be the causes of the water pump cracking off on the arms where I attached it to the engine block. I mounted a new water pump on my TBird last week, and as soon as I started it, coolant sprayed everywhere. I need some suggestions on how to fix this. Because I have no idea what caused this to happen.

I inherited my father's 1929 Model A Coupe, which I also helped him restore. He passed away 3 years ago, and I am continuing his dream.

I would like to know what the tire pressure should be on the car. The car is completely origninal with the exception of a few parts such as the starter and alternator.

So, if you could help me with the tire pressure, I would really appreciate it.

1929 Model T. My grandfather bought it for use as an oil truck/just because it was a Model T. My dad wanted to know how much it was worth?

Also, how much work would it require to get it up in running, since it hasnt run since like 1998?

Has original everything, maybe except for spark plugs.

I'm looking at a58 T-Bird convertible that is for sale. He is asking 6K but his brother says that is just a starting point.

The florrs are solid, eveything is there, the interior is perfect as is the carpet and door panels. The car has sat for two years now but they say everything was working at that time. I do not know what the top loks like.

The one bad spot, that you can see is the left rocker. It appears like it may have been patched at some time and is now coming apart. Unless this is the way these rockers where put together (see pics). The car looks original. It needs a lot of cleaning but the chrome is all there and not bad.

What do you think?

I own a '56 Fairlane passed to me from our family when my grandfather died. I had it towed to the shop for a transmission leak, and they called and said it needs a new battery. I thought I read in a forum that this was a 6-volt battery in the car, but when I mentioned it to the mechanic he was confused. I can't find anything on line or in the owner's manual. Without driving down there and checking myself, does anybody know if this is a 6-volt standard in the Fairlanes?
