I have a 1966 I6 Mustang Convertible. I'm going to replace the brake drums, shoes, wheel cylinders, hardware, hoses, lines. I also will be changing from the '66 single master cylinder to a dual master cylinder from '67.

I've seen & heard different answers as to which is the correct rear brake shoe size. I'm hoping that someone might be able to provide information/advice regarding this question.

The issue is whether or not the '66 I6 Convertible has different size rear brakes (ie. 9 x 2 1/4, same as the front) than the 66 coupe/66 fastback (9 x 1 1/2). Some of the people I've talked to have the 1 1/2" and some have the 2 1/4".

Currently, my shoes are 1 1/2" (with a backing plate for 1 1/2" shoes). However, I wonder why I see so many publications listing the 2 1/4" rear shoes as correct for the '66 I6 convertible specifically.

Hey all, newbie here. I hope I can get some solid help and input with my newest venture.

I purchased a 52 Merc Monterey 2 door hardtop. Great condition on the body and chassis. It is a basket case that came complete with all the trim and such and just needs to be put together....now for the good part.....

The car came with a 302 ford short block bored 30 over, but never reassembled....I have the heads, but everything else will have to be peiced back together. It also came with a C-4 trans with roughly 50K on it. I narrowed my decision on this thing to two scenarios regarding the engine and driveline....1. I purchase a turn key crate motor and rebuild the trans to handle the power, or 2. I have a friend who has a 53 Ford with the original flathead with 87 K on the motor and trans (supposedly). If I go this route, she would be closer to original, but those flatheads only had 125 horsepower. Can they be turned into powerhouses or are they pretty much as powerful as they could ever be from the factory?

I need some input to help me along my way....

Thanks in advance

Hey everybody, I've read these forums for a while just of interest and was wondering if i could get some advice from y'all.

2 months age i purchased a 1962 Mercury Comet from a guy that just had it sitting by his mobile home. It had four flat tires, and varies amounts of rust all over. He claimed he stuck $1,500 in the engine, but i have my reservations on that. The car didnt run but i talked him down the 4375 and bought it. I wanted to make a rat-rod out of it and drive it for kicks. I got it running by buying a new fuel pump, playing with the wires and cleaning the carb. I stuck new plugs in and now it fires very easly in 3-5 seconds everytime. I bought new tires for it and played with the drums but im buying new brakelines before i do anything else.

About a month later i bought a 'strait' body of another Comet of smiler body, with very minor surface rust and an extra engine/trans/chrome. Heres some picks of both cars...

I have been restoring a 1966 Mustang convertible on and off for about 10 years. Lately I have been interested in setting the car up on a rotisserie so that I can weld on the underbody and restore it properly. This would also probably speed up the work along with the quality. But I don't know where and how to attach a rotisserie to the structure. Where and how does the rotisserie attach? It is a unibody, of course. What do I have to remove to get it light enough to use one? Since it it is a convertible, do I have to brace up the inside so it won't flex? Thanks for any help you can give.

I don't have the vin info handy, but suspect it's 272 because of the front crossover exhaust pipe.

Considering a 390 transplant with probable C4 tranny from a 60's donor; maybe 66 Merc, 67 Ford, 69 Ford SW [I'll shy away from the 63/64 engines].

I know it's been asked before, but that was a time back; wondering about current sources for the motor and tranny mount adapters? need to be re-fitted? or bolts right in?

I hear debates that say 390 is VERY heavy, and then some say only 50 pounds heavier? do we have specific data on it?

My question NOW [for simplicity] is for ideas/parts to get the engine and tranny INTO it................... then later I'll ask about front discs, springs, stronger differential, radiator, and more. But to keep it simple, engine/tranny info for now, please.

OF COURSE it'll need to have dual exhaust, and will welcome any steering column clearance solutions as well as header types.

Would I be crazy to put 2bbl engine in it? won't that be strong enough for an old man? I have access to both 2 and 4 bbl so it's not a real issue.

Thanks,

Ok, I am new to this forum, so here is a little background on me and my first classic vehicle.

I am 19 years old and I live in Indiana. Since before I could remember all I ever cared about was classic cars. I remember being 5 or 6 years old, and just drawing all day every day. All I drew were cars, and they were all classic cars. Me and my dad were even joking recently because we remember some things I would say at a younger age. Since all I cared about were old cars, I told my dad I wanted to own a car company. This way I could build exact replicas of all the classic cars, with current day perks, but seeing as I was about 7, I didn't have an example like "instead of drums, use disc" I only said "it could have a cd player".

Well, I got a job sweeping floors when I was 17 at a shop on the west side of town. They specialized in classic cars. So daily, the cars I would see would be everything from a 1956 studabaker, to a 1965 stingray, etc.

Well little by little they taught me more and more about working on cars until I was a mechanic there full time, working 50 hours a week.

Unfortunately, I only got to work on these cars, but never own any of them. Some of these cars were only 2 or 3 thousand invested, others were 2-300 hundred thousand invested.

It was simple. I am young, inexperienced, don't know the right people, and don't have the right money. I was starting to get depressed to look at these vehicles because I didn't have the money to own one, and by the time I was in my 30's or 40's, the cars would be even more rare, and I would have a hard time even finding one.

Well, a miracle happened.

I just got ahold of my first classic ride. It is a 1961 Ford F100 Unibody. It has Zero rust, Zero dents, Zero Dings, Perfect interior. The truck was southern owned and was well taken care of. The man who owned this vehicle before me had decided to turn this truck into a gasser. So by the time I got it, it had been primered, it had electric bucket seats, a 302 out of a 1970 mustang, a very nice c6 tranny, nine inch rear end, brand new motorcraft carb, etc. The engine is ford blue, as is the air filter. Well, he didn't finish it before he got rid of it. It has drum brakes all the way around, no power brakes, no power steering, etc. Just the way I want it. All the glass is good. And did I mention there is zero rust?

I am planning on doing what I have always wanted to do. I am going to restore this to its original beauty, no lower, no raising, no chop top. I am going to make the chrome and paint shine. And I am going to drive it every nice sunny day.

I just wanted to introduce myself and my truck. And ask if anyone knows anything about these old trucks, or where the best place to look for parts is.

Thankyou.

I just purchased a 65' Merc Montclair from some guy whose mother-n-law owned. Anyways, it has a 390 engine with 69k miles on it. This is my first classic car and I really don't know what I am talking about sometimes so I'll need a little bit of help.

After starting it up and driving it home without any issues, I tried to start it up again (an hour later) to take the kids around the block and it stalled on me. In fact, it will not run idle anymore. This was not happening yesterday when I drove it home for the first time.

I am assuming it is the carburetor that is giving me problems but I am not sure if it needs to be rebuilt, or a new purchase, or just adjusted.
Thank You.

Hey all,

I am a new member here and look forward to your help and input. I have purchased a 52 Merc Monterey basket project....all things present. It is as solid as can be, but one problem....someone replaced the original rear end with a Chevy leaf spring rear end.....damn stupid move on a car with no rot or rust anywhere underneath, but neither here nor there....what's done is done. Anyhow, it is not squared up in the least and seeing as thought the perch's are still present, I sould like to relpace it with a proper model rear end. I am running a built 302 and need input on a rear end for this beauty...

Thanks...

A paint job was put on it (two-tone), it looks fine except for in the bed, which hasn't been done either, totally new exhaust and some other parts to get it running again, it has 73,000 miles on it, the body is in decent shape with some dings in it, we were looking at selling it and I was wondering what the price on it should be, ill upload pictures of it in detail if i remember later

I'm trying to find some info about a car that never made it to production in '64 called the Fordor. From what I have gleamed in my searches is that it was most likely going to be a T-Bird based on previous and following model years.

First a little background before I get into my specific question. My grandfather, Rodger A. Ketchman, was an Executive Engineer with the Materials, Testing, and Build Operations office in Dearborn back in the 60's and 70's. He kept many 1/4 sized models that he was a part of. One of these was a 1964 Ford Fordor Panel Front Door Inside 1/4 size die of wood made by the Ford Inner Panel computer program.

I'm trying to find out more information on exactly what it was he was working on. It's part of the family history that I am trying to get a better picture of.

Any info would be appreciated.

Hi all,

I live in new zealand and i have recently bought a 1958 Fairlane its an american import, ive been trying to find out some more infromation on the model. When i bought it it was advertised as a fairlane custom 300.

Since then ive traced the vin number and found out that its a fairlane 500 Victoria fordor in its original color of raven black,it was made in Dearborn, MI. And i was wondering if anyone knew what the difference was between the victoria model and the standard fairlane 500.

If anyone has any info about the model it would be a great help.
Thanks
