I have a 1971 cougar that hasnt run in a few years and I am trying to get it running again. It has a 351 C with 2brl carb.

I replaced the coil, the distributor cables, spark plugs and rebuilt the carb. I dont have a battery for it yet so I took one out of my 91 Jeep Cherokee (straight 6 engine).

I put the battery in and hooked it up and got power to the instrument panel, the oil and alternator lights come on. I turn the key and it will crank but will not start. I smell fuel in the carb so I know it isnt a fuel problem.

So I checked the plugs. The plugs are not getting a spark. I checked the distributor and it isnt getting a spark either. Is the brand new coil I bought a bad coil that needs to be replaced or is the battery I have in there too weak to spark it or what. I dont know how to fix this problem.

Any help would be great. Thanks.

I have recently rebuilt a 57 Ford Custom 300 we found in a barn. The wires were all still there and the car actually started and ran before we stripped it apart. I have re-attached all of the wires as the wiring diagram shows but still have an arc. The spark goes away when either the wire connected to the P/N or the wire going to the BAT on the Voltage regulator are removed. I found a fried wire from decades ago and have unspooled the loom to assure there are no melted or frayed wires. I am at a loss. Any pointers would be great. Maybe a bad voltage regulator? Maybe the terminals are hooked up backwards????

Hi guys.I am bringing a Fairlane back to life that has been sitting in my mom's garage for about 5 years. I am sure I will have a few more questions before I am done. But the tank has old gasoline that has been sitting for about 5 years, the last time the car was run. I plan to totally clean out the entire fuel system. But one question I have is when I empty and drop the tank, what do I use to clean out the inside to remove the varnish buildup that may be in there? I don't want that stuff coming loose after I have cleaned and reassembled the whole system. Thanks, Donald.

I have all of the parts for a 1966 Mercury Monterey minus the body/frame and I'm looking to sell them. They've been up in the loft of my bike shop packed away for about 10 years just taking up space. All of the parts are in fairly good condition. If you are interested in a particular part or interested in buying it all, let me know. I have not sat down to make a price for each part, but I will probably take best offer.

Also, the interior fits not only a 65-67 Monterey or Montclair, but it also fits a 65-67 Ford Galaxy.
Thanks,

Hello, my name is Pat and i'm 17 years old.
Basically, i've been given the option that if I can restore the 1965 mustang sitting in the garage, it's mine. So i'm going to need all the help I can get.

There's one issue, i'm a musician, i'm far from a mechanic. The project (if I do everything myself) is going to be an estimated 6,000$.
The body is in perfect shape

the interior needs to be stripped and redone, but I have everything for that.

The engine has been rebuilt, but is still mounted and needs to be put back into the car.

All the electrical stuff with the engine has to be done, with which i haven't a clue.

The transmission needs to be rebuilt completely, which must be done before the engine can go in.

These are all the major things I guess, some other things here and there such as the bumper needs to be replaced, the doors need new side pannels, but other than that it's in great condition and i'll attach some photos of it to give you an idea.

Thanks in advance guys, I appriciate all the help you can give me, with any luck, i can successfuly get this thing done before i'm 18 in august and I can show it to my kids 40 years from now and say "look what your dad did".

Not to mention pick up a S**tload of chicks in the process

hey there... just looking for some advice. I've recently been looking at classic mustangs 1965-1968 range. While prices are all over the place, it looks like I could get something not to shabby for in the $10-$15k price range.

My question is how much would it cost me to maintain? Are repairs on a classic car much more expensive than a newer car? It would me nice to get a benchmark... fixing X on a 1968 mustang would cost Y... fixing it on a 2008 mustang would cost Z.

Is it hard to find a repair shop to work on a classic car?

So I finally found a car that I and my woman can agree on to get and make a family project, and she tells me to go ahead and go for it. So I did. We are looking into getting a 1960 Ford Galaxie for $9,000. I have not seen the car in person yet, well soon, but from what I have seen in the advertisement and talking to the owner it sounds like a great deal. ( I have a link with the details below.) Now the woman is throwing the doubt card and giving excuses to rethink the offer. She did not say no, but to make sure I will not make a bad call. I know that I will not be for certain until I go see and test drive the car but do offers always seem better then what might be the truth. Is it common for people to say and post lies to sell the car.
