I'm deployed in Afghanistan and find myself lying awake at night with visions of my grandfathers 52 work truck. This truck was my fathers when he joined the navy and moved away from home. It had been his fathers before that. When my parents were pregnant with me they couldn't afford a house and my father was going to sell the truck to help pay for that. My mothers father wisely took it off of his hands for safe keeping. I vividly remember him driving me to church in that truck when I was young. The truck has been garage kept and not driven in over 25 years. My grandfather is getting on in years. My limited experience with vehicle maintenance and repair has come out of necessity thru owning inexpensive used vehicles. I have a dream of restoring this truck to modern functionality while maintaining its period look. The original motor bit the dust years ago and although he has two motors from that year in the garage, they are not parts matching and I don't plan on using those. I would like to drop a crate motor in but I don't know the size of the engine compartment so I can start my wish list of power train parts. I apologize for the length of this post and look forward to any help or pointers that might send me in the right direction.

V/R

Griffin

Can you guys give me advice on how to sell it and what to expect from it? I'm not a car person, so I'm kind of lost.

It's light yellow, and my grandfather drove it the 79 miles from the dealer to his workshop, parked it indoors, and let it sit there until I inherited it a couple years ago. We moved it to a different building on a trailer. So it has 79 miles on it, every single part on it is original. No rust.

I was also told by a relative that one of the doors was a slightly different color, which indicated that it might be something special? Any idea what?

It is in really good condition, and has been garaged since 1982. The woman who died never took the vehicle out after 1982 and just kept it in her garage. There is no rust and it has a 318. Its decent shape for a north east car some rust but nothing major that i can fix. The only prob im having now is a tree fell on the rear roof when last owner had it. Which broke the rear window so he got one from a 55 belvedere 4dr but its not in it so idk if it will fit coming from a 4dr. Anyways plans are to get it in good running driving condition. get lights ect working and drive it while i work on it till one day ill have enough money to have it painted. Ive currently got it to fire and with some gas through carb it fired up, just rebuilt my carb today so hopefully that will keep her running.

Fellows.
I am looking for some help as to what is wrong with my engine. When I got it ,it had been setting for years. It was out of a 1931 plymouth, rodster. I cleaned it up and put all rebuilt parts on it (dist.,carb, starter and gen. Put it in the car and it started right up,but does idle a little rough. When i give it some gas, it coughs and sputters. I have put new wiring, primery and secondary, have replaced the coil, points, plugs, condenser, and roter.Took the carb off and it was shooting gas ,when I pushed the accelerator pump down. checked all the setting on it,put it back on and have the same thing. I'm wondering if I have a bad valve or valves. It sounds normal when it idles. I did a compression test and all 4 cylinders carry 70 lbs. Could I still have bad valves and still have good compression??
I don't know what to do next!!!!! HELP Thanks for any help you can offer

FYI
Opened my Hudson Garage Sunday night to assist a '47 Plymouth Sdn broken down on I-90 for hrs enroute to the Chrysler Nationals in Vermont. They had a blowout that danmaged a fender, then their car wouldnt restart.
State Police called a Rollback to take it to a Shop that wouldnt open umtil Monday which would delay their trip, so I told them to just tow it to my place where it was on the road a couple hrs later.....They had every spare part imaginable, and I was glad to assist....They are sure to be in contention for the Hard Luck Award....The car had disc brakes, Overdrive, dual carbs, headers, etc... Pretty Neat....

Hi everyone,

New here, this is a great forum ! I hope someone here can help with a question I have.

My husband is fixing up (not much really to do on it) his 1983 1/2 Dodge Shelby Charger, he wants to sell it soon, as well as his Mustang Convertible, after that. But anyway, the only thing that needs to be done with the Shelby is the headliner inside needs to be glued on better.

The car wasn't driven much, and it has been sitting in a big barn type shed, and the headliner inside is sagging down. He has gotten to where he can get to the underside now, but whats the best thing to use to clean any residue off of it. And any suggestions on the best type of glue to use so it will stay up there.

Its very very low mileage, just tuned up, inspected and the registration is current. The only problem is the headliner, and he's a perfectionist, so he won't try and sell it until the headliner is perfect.

Thanks for the help,

75 Dodge Dart w 225: Any idea on gas mileage?

Hey Guys -
Weird question I know, but 4+ bucks a gallon is starting to really hurt and the Hemi in my Ram is mighty thirsty.

I'm also tired of my wife yammering on about how I need to get a fuel efficient car to commute with. I am also a car guy and the idea of puttering to work in a Honda or worse yet a Hyundai is so... icky.

Today on the way home I saw a flash of emerald green out of the corner of my eye and spotted a very cute 75 Dodge Dart Swinger at a small used car lot. It appears rust free and according to the vin is a 225 slant 6 with a 1bbl. I want to go check it out tomorrow and see what the story is.

What I would like to know is what kind of mileage I could expect from that little car. I've searched online and have read a few quotes about Darts with 225s getting 24 city and 30 highway and want to know if this is true. If that is the case, my wife and her Subaru tree-hugging attitude can suck it since that's what her little soulless hatchback gets.

Can you guys tell me? I WANT to drive a cool car every day, not just on the weekends...
