Ford Galaxie, Green, for sale in Charlotte, North Carolina, for $13,995.

This 1963 Ford Galaxie is one of those survivors that make you wonder where they've been hiding all these years. With just over 57,000 miles showing, long ago repainted in its original color, and a matching numbers 390 drivetrain, it's the perfect car for the Ford fan who thinks he's seen it all.

Total Performance was Ford's motto in 1963, and the Galaxie hardtop with its fastback roofline was designed to dominate NASCAR. The bodywork is handsome, yet aggressive, and when wrapped in beautiful dark green paint like this one, the effect is akin to the proverbial iron fist in a velvet glove. Although the paint is from several decades ago, it still shows a soft gloss that is period-correct, and shows many hours of careful polishing and waxing over the years. Older paint usually indicates original sheetmetal, so you know this one is clean and well-preserved underneath, as well. All the chrome and stainless, including the bumpers and that intricate grille, still maintains its suttle shine, with rarely a sign of rust or damage.

The interior is also nicely preserved, but in the interest of full disclosure, we should point out that the front seat covers and carpets are replacements. They're correct and accurate, and given the condition of the rest of the car, they don't seem particularly out of place in the least. They blend perfectly with the original door panels, headliner, and back seat. There are a few sags here and there, but for the most part it's beautifully preserved. In the '60s, the big under-dash unit is how the factory did A/C, and the only non-stock component inside is a newer AM/FM/cassette stereo head unit. Look at the pictures, this car is extremely impressive.

Admittedly, that 429 air cleaner is not stock, but the Z-code 390 underneath is original to the car. With a 4-barrel carburetor, it was just one step below the top-of-the-line 427, and delivered formidable performance on the street. It was also a gentleman's engine, however, with a smooth idle and the ability to cruise effortlessly at high speeds without much more than a whisper. The engine bay is clean enough to pass for restored, although the age of some of the original components, including the washer fluid bag, suggests otherwise. There are a few deviations from stock, but not so many that a weekend of work couldn't take it to 100% factory correct. Underneath, it's just as clean, befitting a car of this age and mileage, and rolls on a set of Goodyear whitewall radials and original Ford hubcaps.

With just three owners from new, including the second owner who had it for more than 33 years, this 1963 Galaxie 500 is a no-stories survivor. Call today!
