Ford F150, White, for sale in Charlotte, North Carolina, for $16,995.

Looking at this 1991 Ford F150, it appears to be nothing more than an extremely clean old truck. However, under the skin lives a supercharged V8, along with a slick-shifting 5-speed and a thoroughly updated suspension designed to cope with all that new-found power.

In 2007, this truck was treated to a complete restoration, including the bodywork. Obviously, as a 2-owner machine, it was always clean and well-maintained, but the freshening took the bodywork beyond anything the factory could manage. All the original trim was removed, the body was straightened and block sanded until it was laser-straight, then the factory blue and white paint scheme was duplicated. Then the brightwork and badges were reinstalled and a fresh grille, headlights, and door handles were fitted. Heck, even the bed was completely refinished, and it doesn't look like it has carried anything rougher than a load of dirty laundry since it was completed. If the builder was shooting for clean but unassuming in order to disguise the horsepower living under the hood, he has succeeded on every count.

While the bodywork was being upgraded, the interior received its own makeover, including new carpets, seat covers, and a fresh dash pad. The bench seat gives the appearance of a pair of buckets, along with room in the middle for a third passenger. Gray OEM-grade fabric adds to the sleeper look, although the small diameter leather-wrapped steering wheel is a small tipoff. The original gauges are fairly comprehensive, including a tachometer, which is useful in a truck with this kind of performance potential. None of the mechanical upgrades have compromised comfort, either, as the factory A/C, power windows, power locks, and an AM/FM/CD stereo all remain in place following the supercharger installation.

The slow-revving original truck-based 302 now breathes through a set of GT40 heads, which make the most of the Vortech supercharger's massive flow capabilities. To match the added air, giant 42 lb-hr. injectors were installed to ensure plenty of fuel at all speeds, and a pair of ceramic coated headers dump into a custom dual exhaust system with a crossover and Flowmaster mufflers. There's a custom ECM that offers four positions, ranging from stock to all-out race, and the guys at Higgins Ford Performance did a masterful job of preserving the truck's OEM drivability while eking out more than 300 horsepower on the dyno. A 5-speed manual transmission channels the power back to a 4.10 gearset cribbed from a high-performance Lightning pickup, and the entire suspension has been rebuilt. Lowered two inches for the perfect stance, it also includes new ball joints, steering box, and fresh I-beams up front. Gorgeous 17-inch American Racing wheels have an old-school Halibrand look that's perfect on the upright F150 shape, and they wear 255/50/17 front and giant 285/60/17 rear Goodyears that really stuff the wheel wells.

Expertly built, nicely finished, and just plain fast, this super clean F150 is every bit a match for a Lightning, dress in a low-profile suit. Call today!
