Ford Deluxe Tudor, Green, for sale in Charlotte, North Carolina, for $29,995.
Is it old-fashioned to appreciate Ford power in a Ford hot rod? This beautiful emerald green 1940 Ford tudor sedan packs a powerful Ford 302 V8 topped by dual quads and backed by a Tremec 5-speed manual. If you appreciate driving your cars, then this great rod will definitely appeal to you.
There are no radical modifications on the body, no chopped roof, no shaved handles, and all the original Ford trim remains in place, albeit restored to new condition. The 1940 Ford is incredibly popular with restorers and rodders alike, thanks to its combination of timeless good looks and practical, big car comfort. This one was clearly built to drive, but like all hand-built cars, the attention to detail and level of quality is beyond what you'd get from some mass-produced transportation appliance. The custom-mixed emerald green paint is a refreshing change from red or black, and it has enough metallic in it to really glisten in the sun. It's 100% original factory steel, no fiberglass, so there's a solid feeling on the road and the doors open and close like the proverbial bank vaults. The tudor fastback body is sleek and ideally lends itself to a lowered and raked stance, without losing any of its back-seat practicality. Chrome and stainless trim has been fully restored rather than painted or removed altogether, and even the rubber-covered running boards survived the conversion intact. There's a lot to love here, especially if you're a Ford fan.
Inside, there's an original style cloth interior that retains the original dashboard. Even the factory gauges were reinstalled, although they have been recalibrated and re-scripted to reflect the car's, shall we say, improved, powertrain and the speedometer now reads to 160 MPH. Again, it's the ideal mixture of old and new, invisibly blending the two into something very unique that clearly took a lot of time and effort to achieve. The original bench seat was retained and it's covered by period-correct tan broadcloth, and the original knobs and handles have been retained on the windows. The most notable upgrade is a tilt steering column topped by a leather-wrapped wheel that has been designed and painted to look vintage. Modern conveniences like air conditioning, heat, and a powerful entertainment system featuring a 10-disc CD changer, have all been cleverly hidden throughout the interior. The trunk is nicely finished, and unlike most rods, this one carries a full-sized spare tire-more proof that it was built to drive.
That 160 MPH speedometer is no joke, either. Under the pointed hood you'll find a built Ford 302 topped by a pair of 500 CFM Edelbrock 4-barrel carburetors that give the engine a split personality. Go easy on the throttle and it's happy to cruise in overdrive and pull down almost 20 MPG. But open all eight barrels, and it will likely pull this rounded cruiser deep into triple digits without a lot of drama. A Mallory ignition system lights the fires, and a pair of Hooker long-tube headers dump into a custom-made dual exhaust system. The Tremec 5-speed manual has been prepped by Keisler, and drives an 8-inch Ford rear end full of 4.11 gears for blistering acceleration. Up front, there's a 4-inch dropped axle hanging on a Posie Superslide leaf spring, while out back, a Chassis Engineering setup locates the rear end. Wilwood supplied the 4-wheel disc brakes, including 2-piston calipers up front that have been painted red for a little flash. Polished Eagle 5-spoke alloy wheels blend modern styling with a traditional big-n-little tire combination thanks to 195/45/17 front and 255/50/17 rear tires that were installed in January 2011.
There's a lot to like in this beautiful 1940 Ford. First, it's extremely well engineered and sorted, so you can drive it with confidence. Then there's the fact that it's a Ford engine in a Ford, which, these days, is a rare and unusual thing. And finally, the attention to detail with things like the gauges and interior fittings means that someone really cared about building this one right. For a car you can drive with confidence and show with pride, you'd be hard-pressed to find one that's better. Call now!
