1951 Ford Convertible

The Shoebox era of Fords could not be better represented than this fine convertible. This is a brand new build, with only 171 miles on the entire vehicle and drivetrain. And what a drivetrain it is: 400 cubic inch Ford small block, fitted with High Performance Australian cylinder heads, with additional head work by Total Performance. The power goes through a stout C6 transmission, fitted with the well recognized B & M floor shifter. To keep the revs down for long-haul cruising, there is a Gear Vendors Overdrive unit that, when engaged, dramatically reduces the rear end gearing. Without the overdrive engagement, plan on the quick reaction that a 3.50 gear (9 inch with 31-spline axles, equipped with Trac Lok) in the Currie rear end can offer. Fire up this potent engine and coated headers will put all listeners on notice: the 2 inch exhaust system will provide a bark that means business!

Suspension is handled by a power steering controlled Mustang II-type front end, with a triangulated 4-bar set-up in the rear. Air Ride handles the ride control. The Foose 18 X 8 wheels on this Shoebox are halted by power front disc brakes, assisted by a Kugel Komponents power master cylinder.

While beauty is typically only skin deep, the paint appears even deeper! Credit the Brilliant Red (a late model Corvette color), accented by the charcoal lower panel. The power-operated convertible top is covered with a complimentary charcoal material, the same specified by the finest Mercedes vehicles. The chrome is re-plated and polished to better-than-new. Bodywork modifications are subtle: the hood is bullnosed, with the hood spear painted to match the body. The taillights are 1950 Ford, chosen for their more desirable style.

Interior is a continued two-tone theme, with Ultra Leather chosen in colors to match the exterior. Thunderbird seats, power operated and in a split front style, were chosen and cut down to match the height profile of the rear seat. The tilt steering column also offers the adjustments to make the driver comfortable behind the wheel. Power windows, Vintage Air conditioning offer creature comforts, and a console that houses the floor shifter and Air Ride controls was artfully crafted.
