DeTomaso Mangusta, for sale in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, for $88,500.
There&;s a US safety standard that dictates how high automobile headlight have to be off the road. In 1970 that height moved up a couple inches from the 1969 standard. Rather than raising their car with absurdly tall springs, DeTomaso changed their Mangusta from fixed headlights to pop up style headlamps. The light pods are manually raised by a lever next to the driver&;s seat. The novel solution squeaked by the federal standards. Most people like one style or the other but it&;s not unusual to meet someone who has one of each.
Our 1970 Mangusta has a history that goes back to being sold as a new car to a leasing company in St. Louis and ends with the car and it&;s 1969 Mangusta brother being traded on a Ferrari Daytona. It is a very original car that is priced to reflect the some refurbishing that you may want to do.
