That massive hood scoop isn't just for decoration on this 1988 Monte Carlo, it's covering up some serious blasting powder underneath. With more than 700 dyno-proven horsepower on tap, this Monte is no mere poseur, but a legitimate threat on the street. To outrun this car, you probably need to spend six figures at the local Porsche or Ferrari dealership. Or you could just take it home and have the nastiest coupe in town for a fraction of the build cost.

The classic shape of the final RWD Monte Carlo just doesn't go out of style, and somehow combines formality and sportiness in a way that few other cars have been able to duplicate. This one, with the SS aero kit looks especially menacing, even if you ignore the towering cowl induction hood with blue racing stripes down the middle. The monochromatic white paint job looks great, and gives the upright greenhouse a sporty edge that stands out without being over the top. Gaps are good, even with those massive doors, and the deck lid spoiler fits nicely, sitting atop the flush-mounted taillights that echo the traditional Monte Carlo shape. And you'll love the sound of that rumbling V8 when you pull the T-tops and let the sun in, making this the next best thing to a Monte Carlo convertible.

Inside, the Monte's luxury orientation is more obvious, with plush bucket seats covered in soft velour fabric. Surprisingly aggressive side bolsters are up to holding you in place, however, and the leather wrapped steering wheel is only inches away from the B&M shifter in the middle. The factory gauge package leaves a little to be desired, so there's a custom panel with an Auto Meter speedometer, as well as auxiliary gauges everywhere, from the tach with shift light mounted up high, to the auxiliary oil pressure, temperature, and voltage gauges below the center stack, to the two fuel pressure gauges tucked under the hood scoop. And as you would expect, the trunk is filled with a custom fuel cell, a remote-mounted battery, and a big blue bottle of nitrous.

And speaking of nitrous, the 383 cubic inch stroker under the hood was built to inhale the giggle gas and make big power. The tall K&N air cleaner is probably necessary to feed the beast, which offers a ton of race quality hardware throughout. The high-rise intake is fed by a massive 4-barrel carb with a Nitrous Oxide Systems fogger plate underneath, and aluminum heads not only make big power, but save weight and help control temperatures as well. A built 3-speed automatic handles the power with crisp shifts and quick reflexes, and the chassis has been suitably beefed up to handle the added horsepower. Handsome 15-inch Torque Thrust wheels wear 235/60/15 front and massive 275/60/15 rear Firestone radials which do their best to plant the horsepower.

If you like being the king of the hill, there aren't many cars that will challenge this Monte Carlo on the street.
