Chevrolet El Camino, Red, for sale in Charlotte, North Carolina, for $15,995.
We've made the case for the practical and stylish El Camino here before, and with this bright red '71, it remains as true as ever. There's a 350 crate motor under the hood, a recent paint job that accentuates the car's classic styling, and honestly, if you can find a muscle car more versatile than this one, you should buy it.
Dressed in brilliant Rally Red paint with black stripes, it's the archetypal Elky, and personally, the '71s are my favorite with their single headlamps and side-mounted parking lights. The bodywork is straight, although there are a few small issues in the quarters that are more due to age than anything else. Otherwise, the paint is shiny and well applied over a properly prepped substrate. The doors fit well, and the tailgate with its black insert is a nice tie-in with the stripes up front. Bumpers, both front and rear, appear to be reproduction items or even very nice originals, and all the stainless trim is in good condition. Accessory bed rails have been installed, adding some extra flash to the handsome shape.
This El Camino also carries a highly unusual parchment interior instead of the much more common black. A bench seat is probably a smart choice in an Elky, just to maximize passenger capacity, and the column shifter makes it easy to carry three up front. The standard gauge cluster is little more than a speedometer and fuel gauge plus some idiot lights, but the owner has added a column-mounted tach and three accessory gauges underneath the dash to keep an eye on the fresh 350 under the hood. An upgraded AM/FM/cassette stereo head unit powers a pair of 6x9 speakers behind the seat, and easily fills the passenger compartment with sound.
The engine is a crate 350 installed about 8000 miles ago, and it runs very well with good power and a great rumble from the custom dual exhaust system. Wearing a coat of Chevy Orange, the engine is nicely dressed with a chrome Edelbrock air cleaner and Chevy valve covers. For performance, there's a Holley 4-barrel atop an Edelbrock intake, and a set of Hooker long-tube headers connect to an X-pipe and Flowmasters underneath. It's ready to rock, with new belts and hoses, a fresh battery, as well as a new master cylinder and vacuum system. A recently rebuilt TH350 3-speed automatic handles the gears, and new ball joints have been recently installed. Power steering and brakes make this truck/car handle easily, and since it's also equipped with a trailer hitch, you'll be glad to have the stopping power when hauling a load. Rally wheels always look right on Chevy muscle, and these wear fat 275/60/15 white letter radials.
Properly sorted cars are hard to find, and when they've led hard lives like most El Caminos, it's even more difficult. This one has been maintained better than most, and comes from a place where they don't have snow or salt on the roads, so there are no hidden surprises waiting for you underneath. With a recent mechanical upgrade, this one is good to go for another 100,000 miles. Drive it, have fun, and don't forget that it still might enjoy working once in a while, too. Call today!
